  1. The Helvellyn cache is quite a small one so hope your TB isn't too big! Coins will fit though, IIRC it's a small Lock n Lock box. We climbed up there in June and loved it, the views were great and there were loads of people up there. Your husband will love it! Is he going up Striding Edge?
  2. Yes, we spotted you on the way to the Mega on the M74! []
  3. I have a TB window cling in my Bongo campervan. He's been logged a few times now, mostly while we were at the Mega Camping event, but I don't think he's been spotted on the road yet. Any other Bongo-cachers out there?
  4. No idea but I'll ask Rich as he's an Essex "Bwoy". Like your username though, clever!
  5. Thanks Keehotee for the heads up on that one, just used it myself for EMcamp!
  6. You should have copyrighted that idea!
  7. I agree - thanks for this post *mouse*, I'd just seen a TB I'm watching move to a collection and wondered what it was all about! I've got fed up of logging all my coins in and out of events, so now I'm just logging one in plus Boris Bongo and will bring the rest with me. Have made them all non-collectible too.
  8. Congratulations on your geocaching "marriage"! Looking forward to seeeing you all again soon!!
  9. Very odd! The co-ords are a bit strange as they're in dd mm.sss and you can't have 85/86 minutes, so GC.com corrects it to N 30° 25.492 W 001° 26.859. The actual spot seems to be somewhere in NW Algeria, and the nearest cache is 158mi W: GC1B0Y3 It looks on Google Earth to be in the Sahara desert! Is it part of an exchange cache or something?
  10. LOL I knew there was a reason I didn't put my name on that one!
  11. I really liked The Cathedral in the Forest GCFA39 and The Lake in the Forest GCFA3B
  12. Seconded - the area around Glossop has loads of caches!
  13. It's hard to pick somewhere that's bad in the Lakes! My favourites from last year are Old Man of Coniston and Wetherlam. Both are good-sized fells which should suit your friend, but are within the capabilities of any reasonably fit walker. We climbed Coniston from the village, stopping at Low Water for lunch and returning via Dow Crag, Brown Pike and the Walna Scar road. There are quite a few caches along the route. Oh and a pub on the way down! Much quieter is Wetherlam: start from the car park at Low Tilberthwaite and climb via Wetherlam Edge if you like a bit of a scramble (we came down this way - not for the faint-hearted!). Take the diversion to Black Sails for the cache there, and return via the ridge to the south and look out for the path down the eastern side of the fell (not marked on the OS maps but obvious when you're there). This joins the public FP along Hole Rake just by a small tarn, and you can follow this back via Yewdale Beck. Other lower places I'd recommend if the tops are a bit icy are Catbells, Low Rigg/High Rigg, Skelwith Bridge/Loughrigg/Elterwater (compulsory stop at the Britannia Inn!), Kentmere valley (but arrive early to bag one of the limited parking spots), Troutbeck valley (ditto), Borrowdale... ooh I wish I was there now! I can email you the GPX or MMO files if you're interested - send me a PM if so. Have a great trip!
  14. We found Hey Diddle Diddle only 2 days ago, but hadn't checked it on-line beforehand (we were on holiday in the Peak), so didn't know it needed attention or we'd have taken our repair kit to help out. It's quite wet inside but the cache itself is fine. It's a great container and a lovely spot, long may it continue!
  15. If we get a campervan in time we're planning on an extra day in the Peak, then up to the Lakes for a couple of days before getting to Perth for the Friday. If no van then just Piratemania and no Mega []
  16. I agree with several posts above: "Needs Archived" sounds synonymous with "Needs Removing Immediately", whereas "Flag for Reviewer" etc sound much less confrontational, but has the added benefit over standard Needs Maint logs of alerting the reviewers as well as the CO. After all, the cache may not actually need archiving but a reviewer could decide what action is appropriate e.g. adoption by another cacher if the owner has obviously gone AWOL.
  17. I didn't know that (the 12 hr edit limit). I know Tim of iCache fame so I'll see if he can help with a list. In the meantime please keep posting your camping event dates, folks!
  18. No probs! When any events are confirmed and/or published please post on here and I'll start a list.
  19. Well the Xmas decs are packed away, the turkey is long gone and New Year is but a hazy memory... the days are getting longer (really!) so it's time to think about CAMPING! We're hoping to host an East Midlands (EMcache) camping event this summer on either 2-4 or 9-11 July, and wanted to check whether there are any other events planned for those dates. We know that folk tend to keep their events on the same weekends each year and we can't remember any being held on those weekends in the Midlands last year, but please can anyone planning a camping event post their dates here so we can avoid clashing? Thanks!
  20. We're coming up to the Lakes for New Year, so just wanted to add that we will bring a large maintenance kit and do what we can with any caches we find that are in need. Our thoughts are with everyone up there, we hope you're back to normal life very soon.
  21. Congratulations on such a fantastic achievement, and on behalf of the caching collective Team Awesome, special thanks for the mini torches which have featured in so many light painting photos!
  22. I've been reading this with interest. We're hoping to upgrade our Garmin Legend C as an Xmas present to ourselves, and are wondering what to get. We like the Oregon, having seen Bambography's the other week, but we really want to be able to use our 1:25k Memory Maps on a GPS, and I gather you can't use them on the Colorado. Having spent a lot on the Selections and National Parks in the past we don't fancy forking out for new maps all over again. However, we do like our Garmin and we've been impressed with their customer service too. Has anyone tried/seen the new Memory Map GPS? And has anyone else used the Satmap one? The K9 Crew's post was very informative (thanks!), so just wondered if anyone else has had any experience of it?
  23. We'll be getting some of those then, if you've left any in the shop Rod!
  24. There are some great ones in this area but most are by no means a cache n dash or a "short walk"! The best I can think of is GCNYFF Half Way Up - it's an ammo tin and an easy find, with parking at the top of the Walna Scar road but it's about a mile and 400 feet of ascent from here. It's well worth it though, with interesting old mine remains lying around. Just round the corner is Low Water and another cache of the same name, which is a popular spot. The Coppermines Valley is lovely and well worth the effort of a walk up to Levers water if you have the time and energy.
