  1. WOW! I can't believe the amount of energy that has gone into this thread. Personally, if it were up to me, there would be a lot more MOCs out there.

This website is very expensive to develop and maintain and the cost of membership goes to defray those expenses. Without this website, Geocaching would not exist.

I think that MOCs are a nice benefit to those of us who will fork over the $30 a year to support the sport. More people should consider upgrading their membership - if for no other reason than to contribute your fair share.

  2. Is there anywhere a newbie can go to learn about benchmarks and searching for them? I've looked at the data sheets from the NGS and I'm clueless on how to read them. Is there a website? A book? A FAQ collection? An Idiot's guide to Benchmark Hunting? Or... do I just try to figure it out on my own and ask my questions here?

    Thanks

  3. Hey Buck - I have a Garmin Legend that I got for Christmas - I love it! It's from Sportsman's Warehouse over near Costco off of Montgomery (or is it Montano at that point). I got it as a gift, but I think they're around $150.

I haven't tried it yet but I'm interested in benchmarks. I've been on some of the government database websites but I'm clueless on what I'm looking at. (I'm still really new at this!) There is a marker similar to some of the pictures that I seen, that is in the middle of my street. I'm going to check it out.

Anyhow - check out the Legend - it's cool.

  4. I got my Legend yesterday morning. I didn't ask for one and I didn't expect it. What a surprise. I also got a book on geocaching and I never knew much about the sport/game. I think I'm gonna get hooked on it though! It looks like a lot of fun!
