  1. Googled this because it was intriguing me. Thanks for the answers, I also found that you can go into the app and the more tab, select drafts from there and then delete, although there doesn't seem to be a delete all button which is a little disappointing. Cheers, Schnuz.
  2. They get paid every time some one views a link as the site is funded through advertisements unless you pay for the premium package . If they have failed to get enough sponsors to maintain the free service then that should be their problem not mine . In fact the more hits they get to their site the better off they should be not the other way round . Other "free" sites have done similar "price" hikes but with less greed involved. As previously stated, if it had been a nominal charge of £10 to £20 pounds per year I would probably have buckled under . If they are that desperate to try to charge circa $400 to minimal users then they deserve to go under and the quicker the better to prevent other "free service" providers from following suit . Yes I have stopped using them but two months of my time cost money and I want some payback . I'm not likely to be receiving a check through the post from them saying "sorry that you wasted six years of your life with us, here's two months free time wages to compensate" so I'm still slowly but steadily kicking them in the shins . That may appear spiteful but I have had several suggestions of "free providers" six years ago. The "free provider" I chose then now want's $400, hardly free! What if the other "free providers" (the same that were suggested six years back) see that photobucket are raking it in decide "I'll have a piece of that" and suddenly "free" actually means "give us $400"? My hit next time may not be quite as large as I have uploaded as many images as will work to GC.com but if I have to do it again it will still be a large number of hours down the pan which I don't want . In short I was suggesting that we collectively send a message that a change of policy six years later is not acceptable , not only will the links go that gained the funding (as they no longer work if $400 dollars isn't stumped up) but the storage space will suddenly be increased as well . Call that small minded, petty or mean if you like but that's how it is and if photobucket doesn't like it I anticipate a check in the post for them wasting my time , by the way; anticipating 6% any time soon . Cheers Schnuz.
  3. You don't appear to grasp the reason that started the topic in the first place . Photobucket were offering a free service, with the usual advertising that is slightly annoying but pays for that free service. However several years down the line , and after suckering enough people in, they have a change of policy for the "free service" and links will no longer work without upgrading to a premium service costing $400 so what is the "free service worth"? Diddly squat unless used as a poor and clunky back up for your photos on your computer . My main point of the original post was "shouldn't we all collectively give Photobucket a kick in the shins"? I suspect that the cost of an extra 96% of storage space required, especially if everyone affected did the same , might cause quite an impact and may prevent other "free" providers from following suit (or even a change in policy). I would love to just use GC.com to upload all my relevant pictures to but unfortunately that doesn't work in several cases previously mentioned and I need a "free" or very cheap provider as I am a tight wad . Drop box is the new, currently free, provider that I am going with at this moment in time but two months of extra work that I didn't need means that I will be filling up my free space on photobucket as fast as I can . It took me three years to fill my allowed free space to 4% , managed to add another % in three days . Kicking at those shins baby . Cheers, Schnuz.
  4. To answer a couple of queries: I need an external site to post images to because: 1. Posting animated images to the geocaching site fail to animate when posted on the web page. 2. Large images can't be uploaded and some of my caches require large images for one reason or another. 3. when uploading an image to geocaching it is resized and often reduced in quality which sometimes won't work. I did quickly reload a number of images onto a geocaching web page but quickly found that was an inferior or even not possible option [:(]. I have since moved to Drop Box for the essentials but would not like to see a good month or more work go down the pan when drop box decide to take the same approach as photobucket. Happy caching. 5. Hi all, Due to my very limited time I very rarely visit this site despite being signed up to it . Several months (hence the "new" in the title ) ago I was sent a link to a thread on this site mentioning a change of policy by Photobucket which suggested that links to external sites required a subscription to Photobucket to remain valid . At that time all of my GC web pages were OK so I crossed my fingers and hoped for the best . Unfortunately a week later I had to disable most of my caches as the new Photobucket policy kicked in and all the links were disabled . It has taken me over two months to fix the cache pages in question and I have still had to rely on an external picture depositary other than GC.com to fix all of the problems . At first when I was placed over the barrel to be raped I thought that I would stump up £20 or £30 pounds a year to save all the agro, initially at first . However the price to continue with links from Photobucket was in the region of $400 and I didn't need to even convert it into £ to know that was a ridiculous amount of money to spend every year . Every time that I have been confronted with another problem to sort my cache pages I have become more infuriated with photobucket to the point that I thought I would share my thoughts and a possible way to show our displeasure . I currently only use 4% of my allotted free space which affected around ten web pages. My thoughts are that I will upload as many photos and pictures to photobucket to fill my allotted free space and tell them exactly why I'm doing it . I suspect that other geocachers are in the same boat, using very a minimal amount of storage space but getting hit for a huge bill or moving the pictures . My worry is if photobucket get away with it will other on line depositories follow suit in the usual greedy way ? Alone an increase of 96% of storage space won't really be felt but if a hundred people did the same it might smart a little . If a thousand people did exactly the same, while telling them why perhaps we may make a difference ? Storage space costs money and money is what they are after so we should hit them where it hurts if we can . Let me know what you think. Happy caching. Cheers. Schnuz. 6. Does a cache in a great area that isn't being maintained, despite it's age or whether or not it had landowner permission at the time, deserve to remain? I don't think so. Given the amount of caches that are being published without landowner permission; oh, did I say that , I'm not overly confident that a new cache wouldn't actually go through . As to the reply to the main thread: No I will not be carrying spare logs with me as it is the cache owners responsibility to carry out cache maintenance. I can't be bothered to check the guidelines so I stand to be corrected but I am under the assumption that caches should be marked with at least the GC code and the fact that it is a geocache. That is most often on the log book/ sheet/ roll so how can that be adequately prepared beforehand? In addition; as has already been stated, if a cache is in need of maintenance of any kind it is generally not being maintained by the CO and thereby should be heading for the chopping block. Why put in a new log just to extend it's pitiful life? I will quite consciously put my hand up above the parapet and state that I would rather visit a remote location that didn't have a cache rather than go and find a poorly/ none maintained one. Happy caching. Cheers Schnuz. Hahaarrgghh yeah goin' to PIRATEMANIA 9 (not that it's been arranged yet, more details in the future)? Be thar or be keel hauled! 7. What do you want from the accuracy? It's pretty good already. Remember the GPS is taking you to the co-ords not the cache. So it won't matter how accurate your unit is, if the cache isn't in the right spot, or if the hiders unit was off. They do make them ultra-super-mega accurate, but are you willing to pay $1000 or 10 grand, or whatever? What features do you want? They already can hold thousands of geocaches, have NFC with other GPS units, take photos, make notes, log caches and upload the logs to geocaching.com. There's even an Android based GPS unit. Play music? Surf the net? Use your smartphone that can be used as a GPS. So I guess my question is how much accuracy could you need? And what exactly do you want for more features, that's not available on available high end GPS, or even on a smartphone? Apologies for a slight derailment but the mention of the NFC with other units has made me ask; has anyone tried an NFC from a garmin oregon/ any other device with the capability to detect a dedicated NFC chip? It hasn't occured to me previously to try the share wirelessly function on NFC's caches. It may not be compatible but if it is it would be a bonus. There is a fairly local cache so I will at some point be able to test it but prior input would be useful. Happy caching. Cheers Schnuz. 8. I like the idea of F points for travel bugs but would it be worth the effort ? Most of my TB's have gone missing, some just after release . I suppose I could release a copy but that to me seams a little like cheating .Something similar to GC "trackables" stamped on multiple PathTag mailers or a trackable stamp within a log book . Many apologies drifted off track there, F points for TB's may make TB's more interesting; possibly. I like tb's anyway as they cost less to set up than a cache (for me at least ) and I get some reasonable logs on them. Happy caching. Cheers. Schnuz. 9. The "serves no purpose" argument I think is misguided. It is just as purpose-full as any other part of the reporting system. It lets the CO know that people are interested, and are attempting to find it. It lets other cachers know that in the dark, you will probably need a flashlight. I'm not all that bent out of shape by someone logging a DNF for a non attempt, although I personally don't think a DNF should be logged if you didn't even look! I feel it should be reserved for actually looking for the cache and not being able to find it. Otherwise, a note would serve to keep a record of your visit without putting up a blue face that might indicate a problem of some sort with the cache. However, that's just my opinion and I'd much rather see DNF icons, and then, when I check over the cache page, read that it was a non attempt, than have people not post DNF at all!!! Exactly. Don't post a DNF if you didn't look. It only serves to cast a negative light on the cache. People who post a DNF if they hit 'go' on their GPS 10 miles away, got a flat, then went home are being obsessive to the detriment of the cache. This can lead to the cache getting archived down the road while still being there. I received notice today of an archived cache, http://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC18BB6_roller-coaster-road-cache Looking at the logs, I see no reason that cache should have been archived. Sure it had two DNFs and hasn't been found in years. Look at the last 2 DNFs, they admit to not looking thoroughly. Read down further, it has had other DNFs as well then found by others. Just two DNFs can get your cache archived without anyone asking for maintenance or archive. Well, there's two things there. Usually, reviewers give a grace period for the owner to respond to (like a month), before archiving. Also, that reviewer said that they'd be willing to unarchive the cache page if the cache was fixed and the cache still met the guidelines. I don't think that people should be afraid to post a dnf if their dnf standards don't match other people's standards. That just leads to dnfs not being posted, which can also have negative affects. Went back only two pages this time but it still a slightly old post but still relevant as an irk . The cache in question wasn't just archived for two DNF's it was archived because the CO was no longer active . That does lead nicely to another irk: geocaches that are left to rot as geolitter . I try to do my bit in my area; if I post a NM or a NA I stick the cache on the watchlist . If it ends up getting archived i then go and pick up the geolitter. That nicely leads on to another irk that was "discussed" in another thread . How? How can the problem of a cache not being maintained go away by "the problem will eventually take care of itself"? Without external intervention? The other poster got slated for being a troll on that subject. Admittedly the posts could have been a little more informative but it's not rocket science really. If the cache owner is not providing maintenance who is ,literally, picking up the pieces? I have personaly found an old, very grotty and actually archived cache , it wasn't a pleasant experience in the slightest . It hadn't been archived that long as it was still in the PQ so my thoughts were "if that was the first cache I found would I have bothered to continue"? The answer would probably have been no . That being the case; caches that aren't actively maintained are my biggest irk. Happy caching. Cheers. Schnuz. 11. I'm trying to read through the whole of the posts but most of your posts are nonsensical . Do you think you could try better and not waste my time trying to sort through the garbage that you are ranting about and produce a decent post? That's my first Irk: posters on forums who post replies without correctly quoting the post they are replying to . Cheers Schnuz. 12. I know what you mean, I always try to give value for money with my logs. I even briefly tried a mostly cut and paste log for drivebys this year with the thought of trying to remove more from my PQ. That went down like a lead balloon possibly due to me not realising that stating that "I preferred to find caches on a decent team walk and I was only finding it to get rid of it from the PQ" might be deemed criticism . It was all very polite but it would seem that those cache setters would prefer a simple TFTC to an explanation of why I hadn't rushed with bated breath within minutes of it's publication to go and find a poorly placed cache . One drive by even got a favourite point for it's novelty value, something that sits high up on my criteria list and that was the reason for not just putting all drive bys on the ignore list (which would mean a lot of hard work in our area ). I have had a few replies thanking me for my found logs logs but if memory serves me correctly only one note of thanks from what seems to be considered a "negative" log and that wasn't from the local area. DNF's certainly aren't negative, although some CO's seem to feel that they are. A detailed DNF should give the CO enough relevant info for them to know if the cache is likely to still be there or not. There have been times that I have been barking up completely the wrong tree at one point and later gone back and found it no problem with no CO intervention . The cache had been there but at first visit I failed to find it. NM posts shouldn't be seen as negative but an alert to a cache that is under the weather and , as it says on the can, needs maintenance. I admit to having a couple of NM posts on a few of my caches but they are on a longer local dog walk so I rely on honest logs on those, as if . I treat a NM post as an immediate heads up to go and sort the cache out. Would I like to find a cache that is grotty? Not even slightly so I drop any sort of caching plans and go do a maintenance visit. If I can't do it that day then the cache gets disabled with a decent note as to why and when the cache will be looked at. None of which contains "I've got a briar full of Alsbo cherry and a wingback in front of a roaring hearth" . NA posts should perhaps be seen as a negative, but only if no ACTIVE CO action has taken place after a reasonable period of time after a NM post. Of course there may be exceptions but those are my thoughts on cache logs. As a CO I always try to send off a "thank you" message to those who give a detailed log. The mental list sometimes gets a little long though and despite taking notes some may slip through the cracks, real life does take precedence as always, after all it is only a game . Apologies are also usually sent if the cache was missing with the proviso that "you can log it as found as it really wasn't there if you want to". That mostly comes back with a reply of "thanks but I will log a find when I find it" . I do like the idea of favourite points for logs on caches I may be up for a few . Happy caching. Cheers. Schnuz. 13. I have finally read through the thread at least once, something that I suspect you haven't done thoroughly enough. I may be wrong in that assumption but your post would point to not actually reading some of the evidence put forward as to why cachers in some area's are reluctant to post NM and heaven forbid NA logs on caches which have an issue. I have no such a problem but as highlighted intimidation from certain CO's can be an issue, at least in our area. That would be answering the query directly. If it is such a "tired old argument" then surely it should be created as a sticky post to prevent it from raising again? The serious problem with lack of owner active maintenance should be dealt with at base level. Caches should not be left to deteriorate and rot by those who get exited and leave early on nor even those that continue to cache but can't be bothered to maintain the caches they set. "community maintenance" doesn't actually exist according to the guidelines. That is a nicety between between mates who know the other would perform the required maintenance if required. Unfortunately in our area there are several prolific setters who think "community maintenance" is the norm and not their actual responsibility . If caches are left to "naturally" end their life who will actually go and pick up the geotrash? When I post a NM or NA on a cache I put it on my watchlist for that reason, I go and remove the geolitter. That is because I care about the pastime and reinforces Team Microdot's point about how a cache will magically sort it's self out without human intervention. If a cache is archived all well and good but who goes out and picks up the geolitter? The reviewer who archived it? I don't think so. Happy Caching and trouble free trading. Cheers Schnuz. 14. Hi Cachez, Firstly let me apologise for diving in half way through and posting back to others rather than replying to yourself first. That was incredibly rude and I can only hope that I can be forgiven for my discretion. I did believe that your original query had already been answered though. In my experience the posting of NM logs are discouraged by the minority of stupidly high placement cachers in the area. The reason being is that they cannot possibly perform active maintenance on all of their caches. They would prefer that their caches were left to rot until some like minded “numbers” orientated individual logs a “ put in a new log sheet” or, even worse; “left a log in a film pot”. Unfortunately we have several of those CO's in the area where I reside. I have no problem posting NM or NA on any of their caches despite their possible protestations. That often ends up with me heading back out again to pick up the geolitter, but that is because I actually care about the pastime and where it might be trying to head. Something those CO's don't seem to do unfortunately. I have met most of them and have no problem meeting up with them and having a chat but cache placement has still been an issue even face to face. To get back on track, I would suggest that any form of negative log is discouraged by the small minority of high cache setters in an area Happy caching. Cheers. Schnuz. Hahaarrgghh yeah goin' to PIRATEMANIA 9 (not that it's been arranged yet, more details in the future)? Be thar or be keel hauled! The only MEGA PIRATE event in the UK to attend? 15. May I yet again point out the bulying attempt of your NA post on my Chirp Parking cache? https://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?LUID=f55c6a0e-1a01-4a50-8205-aec490945b8b ? Cheers, Schnuz. Sorry again you miss my point. I usually maintain my caches "eventually". What I don't like is your condescending "the clock is ticking" remarks. I have enough problems replacing the caches that my cache trasher keeps nicking. My NA was childish on your Chirp cache I will admit and was a lapse of my judgement. And yeah its never a dull moment in my local area. I will take that as the only sort of apology from you to your attempting to bully me to stop posting NM and NA logs on your caches. It is likely the closest that I will get to an apology and congratulations, I believe that is the first NA I have received so a FNA to boot. I do have a couple of NM logs of which I am slightly embarrassed but at least one of those was for a cache that had many found it fine and dandy logs and only one log suggesting “nasty and smelly” https://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GC28D2&title=clough-head-surprise six months previously. Not really an excuse but I did post an apology so yes I appreciate not only accurate logs but DNF's and NM, not so much NA as I actively maintain most of my caches and swiftly maintain the others if a problem is reported. In addition the cache trasher is not “your cache trasher” and I try not to believe that there is an active cache trasher in the area. There may be, but posting antagonistic logs in that vain will surely only make the situation worse? A cache trasher can surely only feed off any negative logs, if there is no reaction or a benign post perhaps boredom will ensue and caches will be trashed less often? Perhaps it isn't an cache trasher at all, just poor placements or even too many placements. I have just over thirty placements, most of them well thought out. I still have trouble with a couple of them as the local children have found them and raid them regularly. That is what I suspect rather than a cache trasher. Times that by twenty minimum = , in my book, time to downsize a bundle; but I'm not about the numbers. There's really no need to panic. Reviewers will always take into account notes posted on caches of an expected maintenance date if maintenance cannot be carried out right away. If I suspect one of mine is missing - because, for example, it is a low difficulty hide, I tend to temp disable in a bid to save people the trouble of searching for a cache that probably isn't there. I'm also not trying to be argumentative here, just factual: No you didn't. On the Plague Pits you disabled it with the post “Disabling for the foreseeable to prevent any future wasted visits. Any sarcastic comments, this cache will just be archived.” which just reads that you aren't going to maintain it so a NA post was obvious. On that one it also turned out that you weren't willing to maintain it so why wasn't it just archived in the first place instead of being disabled? It's also no good wielding the rusty spade that you [?] removed from GZ as you are only digging the hole deeper, not filling it in. The ticking clock is indeed there as I place caches that I post a NM or NA on my watchlist because I care about the pastime and will go and remove the geolitter and skip it. As you also have caches on your watchlist you will know that the ticking clock is measured in months rather than days so quite why you decided to “panic” when HH10 got the first NM post on it is beyond me? If you are indeed so apt to “panicking” why did you post the sarcastic and insulting comment after my DNF? That post was obviously only going to result in a NM so why take the time to bother? I am not an ogre or a troll that you seem to try to make me out to be. I care about the pastime and can only see it going down the pan due to poorly placed and poorly maintained caches. If a cache is in a poor condition or missing it needs a NM post, if it isn't being maintained it needs a NA post. Those are the rules (ok guidelines) and any one who knows me knows that I am a stickler for rules. If a cache is archived by my instigation then I will go and pick it up (eventually, that is another reason for the watchlist). Happy caching. Cheers. Schnuz. 16. No, I wouldn't say your postings on that cache could be considered bullying, but the civility level of your communications could certainly be improved. First, I would suggest snide notes along the lines of "Just because you couldn't find it does not mean it is missing" are unnecessary. The best thing to do after that 5th DNF would have been to either disable it or post a note saying that you'd check on it, and then go check on it. Second, when you had someone other than yourself go check on it, you failed to mention that, which led to some confusion. A better Owner Maintenance log could have been "I had a friend who has previously found it go check it out while I'm away, and they've confirmed it's still in place". This seems to more accurately describe what happened, based on what you eventually revealed in the back-and-forth on the cache listing. My best suggestion would be for both The Magna Defender and schnuz to tone back their logs, since they just seem to be baiting each other and escalating non-issues to absurd levels. We're all in this together and need to work together to keep the database filled with quality, well-maintained caches. @schnuz, if you try to keep comments about potential maintenance issues factual and leave out any hint of sarcasm, I expect you'll get better results. Hi The A-Team, All of my logs are factual although some are slightly embellished, especially if trying to throw a little humour in. I have tried DNF and NM logs without the sarcasm but unfortunately The Magna Defender has driven me to it due to his very poor maintenance regime (despite claiming that he actively maintains all of his caches on one of his previous profile page changes, they do change quite regularly). After his OM posts on HH10 https://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GC4Z88C he no longer has any remote chance of credibility for any of his OM logs in the future and credibility was already running very low. Supposedly a “friendly note” is enough to initiate the maintenance procedure but as is seen that was not the case. The insulting note insinuating that I hadn't spent the required effort to find a relatively easy cache obviously sparked a NM. To those of you across the pond it may not be as obvious that the CO; The Magna Defender, was at that time over one hundred miles away as the crow flies and most UK roads are far from straight. I don't like to try to point out the obvious but my first post was quite detailed, even mentioning the unusual cache camo. The resulting armchair Owner Maintenance post could only really be replied with a sarcastic NM post as the OM beggared belief. To try to cover his err in judgement the CO “The Magna Defender” then tried to suggest that a “previous finder” had gone and checked it for him. That resulted in an early finish from work mid week, incurring a reduction in available flexi time, and another check in, around and on the unusual and blatantly obvious cache camo. I didn't post a DNF at the time as I really didn't see much point as all about the placement had already been posted. On the Friday I finished very early from work as I had some errands to run. That meant that I could take the dogs out for their evening walk and had previously arrange to pick up a previous finder on the way. The shorts pocket comment was an attempt to add a little humour to the post; I always wear shorts and they have often contained large items like ladders, a slight figment of imagination as to where the item actually was. Yes the cache has now been maintained but who by? Not that I really care but the CO seems to? I have the emails as I HH10 on my watchlist and even those throw the CO's protestations into sever doubt. The none issues are unfortunately issues with this CO; he has repeatedly posted OM posts on caches when he hasn't actually performed any actual Owner Maintenance. HH10 is just the icing on the cake and proof beyond reasonable doubt that an open fire, a pair of slippers, a briar full of Alsbo Cherry and a large comfortable wing back is all that is required for being the owner of five hundred plus active caches. Perhaps a deployment of some of the strong arm subservients may be in the offing, but to be honest I can't see how the more linguistic one of those (see HH10 OM #3) can even dig him out of this one. I do apologise as I suspect that a little hint of sarcasm may have crept into this post at a couple of points but the whole pastime is in for it if poor CO maintenance in any form is allowed to continue. As a newbie would I carry on if the first box I found was grotty? Doubtful. If I posted as the guidelines and got a similar result? Doubtful. The CO posts about stagnation in the area but that is only due to him and a few others hoovering up any available half decent (and most less than so) areas with usually trashy placements. Not always, granted, but usually. Happy caching. Cheers. Schnuz. Hahaarrgghh yeah goin' to PIRATEMANIA 9 (not that it's been arranged yet, more details in the future)? Be thar or be keel hauled! 17. May I yet again point out the bulying attempt of your NA post on my Chirp Parking cache? https://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?LUID=f55c6a0e-1a01-4a50-8205-aec490945b8b ? Cheers, Schnuz.
  18. With a quarter of the caches I've found, a "needs maintenance" log means a half-day or more of effort from the cache owner to follow up on it. I'm not going to ask that level of effort from someone on a "might". I'll only log an NM on one of those when I'm certain there's something wrong with it. Amen ! Give that man a medal. The majority of people who slap needs maintenance on caches are those people who haven't gone to the time of setting them themselves. Yes I am one of the COs who considers a NM an insult. Especially in the local area when a certain someone insists on putting NA on a cache only disabled for a month. We even have locals going round sticking NM for listed TBs not being in the cache. Firstly may I say hi to all on here and I hope you are all well. I have been here before but I don't recall if I have ever felt the need to post before now, my time is divided between several interests and forums only get visited briefly. I also apologise to all who I may have slighted by not quoting every post but I only copied and pasted the two main ones that are obviously sited at my good self. I currently have thirty six listed caches, unfortunately only thirty four are still active as two got to be too costly and time consuming to actively maintain. I struggle to actively maintain all of those but Mr TMD has claimed in the past, on one of his profile descriptions, that he actively maintains all of his near eight hundred caches. To be fair some of his caches have been archived and slightly more than two, but that leaves in excess of probably five hundred active caches. Now well thought out caches that have had some planning and a reason for being there I like. A “had a spare pot in the bag while passing” I don't like as those types of hides are not what geocaching is all about. Yes; I did stick a NA on The Plague Pits of Rivington http://coord.info/GC480NT as it hadn't been found for months and as usual the CO (TMD) had not performed any maintenance on a simple drive by. As the bully he tries to be he then posted a NA on my Chirp Parking in Rivington http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=5835153a-1b1b-45ea-ba41-436a43040e35 that I had only just disabled due to an active maintenance visit when I found that the final had gone missing. That tit for tat ended in a “carp” drive by micro, easy to maintain, being archived; while a custom made hide, taking several hours of input was maintained within about two weeks. While maintaining Chirp Parking I then had the unfortunate experience to encounter HH10 - Hidden Corner https://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GC4Z88C&title=hh10-hidden-corner&guid=1b5426d2-a668-4050-9d22-1d252945c6e1 . I spent a good deal of time looking for it, I prefer to go caching “on the hoof”; if it's in the GPSr I will look for it. I also go in “blind” so without any preconceptions but having an Oregon I have the paperless options available if needed. I failed to find that cache and the DNF is there for all to see. I didn't post a NM at the time, not for fear but to see if the DNF would initiate some sort of maintenance visit. The log was specific and quite detailed so the CO should have known I had been, found nothing and the cache was missing. In return there was a snidey post insinuating that I couldn't find a very easy cache. That obviously resulted in a NM post, several of them in fact as I name The Magner Defender as a complete liar and a fraud. He doesn't actively maintain his caches, at best he reactively maintains his caches. I have no fear about posting a NM or a NA post on any cache that deserves it but The Magner Defender is the sort of bullying CO who does discourage that sort of post. My last post on HH10 - Hidden Corner https://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GC4Z88C&title=hh10-hidden-corner&guid=1b5426d2-a668-4050-9d22-1d252945c6e1 was not going to be the last, just a statement of “what's the point?”. The CO was still going to clear the maintenance flag without doing anything to remedy the situation. I want the open fire, pipe, slippers and comfy arm chair that he has because my maintenance is fairly tough. Happy caching. Cheers. Schnuz. Hahaarrgghh yeah goin' to PIRATEMANIA 9 (not that it's been arranged yet, more details in the future)? Be thar or be keel hauled! The only MEGA PIRATE event in the UK to attend? Hahaarrgghh, be seein' yah thar yah filthy landlubber!
  19. It's probably just the power switch, I believe they are a bit poor. If it's out of warranty try taking it apart and looking at the switch to see what sort it is; micro switch or curved metal bubble switch. With batteries in place try shorting the terminals with wires on them, if the device turns on then the switch is duff and needs replacing. Cheers Schnuz.
  20. I dip trackables in every cache that they physically visit as that records the most accurate path that they have travelled that is possible. That mapping path isn't perfect by any means but until trackables have a GPS module fitted to them it's the best that there will be. I don't post on each dip but I always try to accomplish the TB's goal and if a TB hasn't physically visited it doesn't normally get a dip (unless by mistake, which is usually if it's late and I'm rushing to finish the days logging). My main posts are on the pick up (which produces an owner notification and in which I state that the main post will be on the drop off) and the final drop off. I always try to give reasons as to why a TB may not have been dropped off earlier in the final post and will more often than not post multiple photo's to the last post. Being the owner of quite a few TB's I have no objection to a similar sort of approach but I certainly don't see any point in a couple of words or a one liner post on each dip (which I have seen), that smacks of “TFTC”, especially if they are cut and paste. I would like to do a reasonable post on every trackable dip but until the days consist of three hundred hours of leisure time each that's not likely to be feasible. Cheers Schnuz. Hahaarrgghh yeah goin' to PIRATEMANIA VI 2013? The only MEGA PIRATE event in the UK to attend? More details to follow as it hasn't been arranged yet []. Hahaarrgghh, be seein' yah thar yah filthy landlubbers!
  21. That's cause you weren't the one who slipped on a dirty floor in a pitch black portaloo, landed in a pool of I don't want to know what on the floor and bashed their head on the door quite badly. And that was before I started drinking! Nothing wrong with the bogs last year, posh ones for the sensitive types and ever so slightly lower standard ones for those of us that couldn't be bothered to walk for the extra minute . Cheers Schnuz.
