  1. I've got the same issue in my other addiction. I teach Taekwondo. People at work are still amused when I walk into the conference room for a meeting and bow as I come through the door.
  2. I'll look at micros on the website and decide if I want to do one; I'll add it manually if that's the case. However, my pocket queries are set to reject micros in general and I think my caching experience has improved overall as a result.
  3. I have a 28 inch long piece of 1/2 inch diameter steel pipe that I carry almost everywhere; it's what I refer to as Clothahump's +5 Wand of Poking. I also have a 6 foot bo staff that I will bring on long bushwhacking hikes; that's Clothahump's +10 Staff of Poking. I teach Taekwondo. Both of these are weapons that I train my students in, and it's very nice to have them along when I'm wandering around in the boonies.
  4. In another thread about the OCB, you said: Wow! I was not aware of the effort it took. Thank you for educating me (and others) and thank you for taking care of the OCB to the degree that you have. I withdraw my suggestion about making it a cache prize and handing it on. I have come to believe that it is is the best pair of hands possible right now!
  5. Clothahump is the name of the elderly Turtle Wizard in Alan Dean Foster's Spellsinger novel series. SWMBO, my partner, doesn't post on the boards or log finds, but I'll put her name in the find if we locate it together. Hers is an anacronym for She Who Must Be Obeyed.
  6. I always read the logs, and have the last 5 available on the Palm. Sometimes there are clues, but most times, they are just fun and add to the experience.
  7. Mine has (among other things): Swag bag First Aid DEET Spare flashlight Umbrella Pens Cache repair stuff PALM A 28" piece of steel pipe (Clothahump's +5 Wand of Poking ) At least one liter bottle of water Packs of Kleenex (for when ya just gotta go)
  8. [Total Hijack] Then let me invite you to the premiere of the cheezy movie that I have a role in (I was also the fight coordinator for it). The Legend of Dirty Bum will premiere in Houston, TX at the Alamo Drafthouse Theater on Thursday, November 2. More information at West Houston ATA and Dirty Bum Productions. [End Total Hijack]
  9. Team360, did you consider the suggestion that was made in another thread about making the OCB the Grand Prize on a humongous cache effort of some kind? That way, you would know that whoever takes it over would be a dedicated cacher that would treat the OCB with respect and carry on your tradition of showing it at events around the country. I think that would be so cool if you did that.
  10. I would call and set an appointment to meet the director in person. Take a lot of good caching propaganda, especially the brochure from Geocaching U, as well as your GPS and the cache you plan to leave. Educate them about caching as needed, and ask them if they would like to help you place the cache if they give permission. Good luck!
  11. Interesting topic. Whether I'm hunting a GC or a TC to me is immaterial: lately, caching days have become few and far between and they are almost like "mental health" days. I come back tired, filthy, bruised, sometimes bleeding, usually a pint low on blood thanks to the mossies - and I'm smiling. Whether I get points or smilies really doesn't matter.
  12. That is just wrong on so many levels. I personally think the name and handle of the dork who used that premium member line should be posted for public scorn and humiliation.
  13. Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.
  14. You did the right thing. Caching may not be the biggest item in the universe's scheme of things, but even here, integrity should be the baseline.
  15. I'll take "Inside a Hollow Tree" for $500, Alex.
  16. I make it a habit to put a cache back where I found it, unless I found it lying out in the open. If that was the case, I will try to conceal it within 3 feet of where I found it.
  17. You absolutely can't go wrong with GSAK. I love it. http://www.gsak.net/
  18. 0.3 miles. But it's a micro and I don't bother with them any more because they suck for the most part.
  19. SWMBO and I loaded up at the dollar store. We put a good selection in the swag bag to start out with and have managed to trade equal for the most part. I've had a few occasions where I have removed junk and left some of my swag (recharging the cache, so to speak) and we've only had to restock the swag bag once in the last several months.
  20. I hate micros. Ever since I changed my pocket queries to exclude them, the quality of my caches found on GC has gone up significantly.
  21. Still on my first one after a year and a half: Garmin Etrex Legend. Great piece of hardware.
  22. My longest cache wasn't on this site. I had one that took me almost exactly one year from the first attempt to find the first leg marker. Once I finally did, it was a 30 minute hike to find the cache. Perseverance is the key!
  23. And some don't. The quality of my GC finds went up astronomically, in my opinion, when I started excluding micros on my pocket queries for unfound caches. I fixed it for you. Unfix it, please. That is not what I said, that is not what I meant. It was a straightforward statement of fact; please don't change my posts like that.
