  1. I saw a Raven and an "Uber Rare Gold OIFGA" on Ebay today...so much for this list.
  2. MrsB, I too have lost coins to a local their in our area. This particular issue is not about a stolen coin, since this coin was logged and shows that it is in a cachers possession. Still frustrating, but different than the thievery we have seen in our area.
  3. I only got a reply to my email (sent to his profile contact address via geocaching.com) after a 'gentle reminder' from geocaching.com was sent - I was told my email had gone into a spam folder - so what address pray did geocaching.com use ? And yes - I saw cacher concerned enter the forums this evening. It would be nice if they could offer an explanation. I sent him the link, and I know he checked on this thread. I hear a slightly different version...but I'll let him speak for himself when he chooses.
  4. Thanks, Dave. I heard from them as well, and they welcome any donations that people want to make. As mentioned earlier, we will be accepting them at the Nomex vs. Ramius event on Saturday. Thanks Tom! That's what I was referring to. If you need any help getting the stuff there, let me know. They are going to rent a storage unit to store any larger items that get donated. They obviously can't keep it all in the 5th wheel, but they will need it when they get back to their own place. I can find room for the dryer here in Escondido if they don't get the unit ready by the time the dryer arrives...if you don't have any place to keep it.
  5. I just dropped him a line and told him to check in here...
  6. Normally, I agree with you. In this instance, I have to ask if you have emailed this cacher to ask about your coin. I know this cacher, and even had a chance to meet him when he came to our area in February. He is not the type to "steal" a coin. I would say that it most likely mis-placed if anything. Make sure you send him an email about it.
  7. OK, I finally got the first auction listed! Antique Gold Coin
  8. I finally got the auction listed for Luke and Laura. Coin Auction I talked with them today, and they are doing better. They lived in the hardest hit area of Fallbrook. Coincidentally, the friends they are staying with during the rebuilding process are my parents neighbors! So, I can help get them anything that is donated.
  9. I just received an email from them, and I asked them to give me an address where folks can send things. (If you saw how messy my office is...you would understand why I don't necessarily want to be a collection point! ) I will provide that via email once I have it. For the time being, they are staying with friends until they can get some sort of 5th wheel on their property to live in until the rebuilding process is complete. While they lost their house and everything in it, they did escape with their pets, so that is good news! Thanks again for all of the support, and I will keep you posted in here and via email when I have more info. Thanks! Dave Oh, I almost forgot to respond to an earlier post. Out here we have Target, Wal Mart, KMart, Home Depot, Lowe's, Kohl's, Sears, Bed Bath and Beyond...and I'm sure I've left something out. I'm just trying to think of major stores that would have many different items they will need. You guys are awesome! Edited to add: Even cards to food places would be good. Quiznos, Subway, Chilis, Red Robin, TGI Fridays...or something else you may think of. They will be living in a 5th-wheel for at least 6 months, so I'm sure eating out will be a treat!
  10. Thank you everyone for your generosity! I will send my addy to everyone that requested it in the morning. In the meantime, here is the link to the list of needs: Needs List (I'm truly sorry for the delayed response. I truly appreciate all of your efforts. Believe it or not, right after I posted this thread, I got a call from my wife...a 21 year-old son of some good friends of ours committed suicide this morning. I left to go to their house and just got home to a computer.)
  11. As most of you know, we have had some devastating fires here in Southern California this past week. We had to evacuate my parents from Fallbrook, but thankfully, their home was fine, and they were able to return on Saturday. Unfortunately, one of our caching families that also live in Fallbrook were not so fortunate. Tinfoil-Hat Head & Wall-Eyed Nutbag have lost their home. Tomorrow, I am listing one of my LE Cachers4Christ coins on Ebay as a fund raiser for them. I'm sure insurance will cover most of the costs of rebuilding, but that will take time, and I'm sure they have immediate needs. I will post a link to the auction once I get it listed. I'm sure they would appreciate any other help that they could get. In the local San Diego forums they are working on a specific list of needs that they have. Thanks, C4
  12. May not be necessary. On the "How do I take part?" page it states: You can now choose to keep your Geocoin, swap with a fellow geocacher or place the WDD Geocoin into the cache of your choice! That is an interesting fact. At first, all I saw was the opening page where it seemed to indicate that you were supposed to place the coin in a cache or swap it with another cacher...but the page you referenced does seem to indicate you can keep the coin...
  13. I've got a limited edition of my new personal geocoin that I will list on Ebay and donate all proceeds to them. I'll post a link here in case anyone wants to bid.
  14. Sorry! I didn't mean to skip the info page! You can edit my first post if you like, and I noticed the topic title should be "World Diabetes Day." Feel free to edit this topic, or just close it and start an "Official" post if you like. Thanks B!
  15. That's weird...the topic posted, but not the message itself... Anyway, there is a request form to receive a Diabetes Day Geocoin to release in a cache. (Similar to the UFD travel bugs.) Here is the info page.
  16. I would love to do Hotlanta as well, but I guess I am too far away to put a bid in a serious bid for that site? For an event this size you need to have someone local to do a lot of groundwork for you. Many hands make light work!
  17. My West coast bid was just me being sarcastic. Avroair knows I swore I would never host another one! I'm still waiting to see if a serious bid from Hotlanta comes in...if not, I already know where my vote will be cast.
  18. Isn't that where the last Geocoin Fest was held? Yep...I couldn't find an appropriate tongue-in-cheek frog in the smilies to fully represent the sarcasm in my post.
  19. I could always submit a bid for Southern California if anyone would like to visit the Temecula Valley area...
  20. My apologies to those that paid in the last week or so. With all the fires around here, I didn't have time to pack anything, and the mail wasn't running here in town for several days. Things are finally calming down. We had to evacuate my parents and their dogs to our house for the week. They got back into their house on Saturday afternoon...but unfortunately, just before they left, my mom's german shepherd got into it with my Boston Terrier...needless to say, my Boston got the worst of it, and we spent the weekend in the emergency vet clinic getting him fixed up! (We came so close to having everything work out too!) Anyway, I'm clearing my desk of stuff that came in last week, and I'll get all your packages shipped out this week. Sorry for the delays. Dave
  21. Sorry for the long delay! Things got a bit "screwed" up down here with the fires. I'm way behind on emails and mailing. I'll get an update posted here this week. If my time doesn't free up considerably, I'm going to let Coins and Pins handle the release for me. Thanks for your patience.
  22. Email me their addy and I'll drive by and check tonight before I head home. (I work here in Escondido.)
  23. Water pressure is fairly low so I don't know if I would want to do that quite yet. I found out from some neighbors last night that someone had physically gone door to door and turned the water main off at each house and then water mains to the areas. We turned our main back on at about 10 last night and got enough water pressure for necessities. We wandered through the ghost town of Ramona last night and found that there were quite a few people that did not evacuate. We found Stater Brothers open for groceries. We found Stars, Circle K, and Daniels all open for gas. We found the Cheers, Subway, and the Turkey Inn open for food and drink. And we noticed at least one feed store open for food for the animals. We were actually suprised and thankful this many places had enough employees still in the area so that they could stay open. You didn't happen to go near my house did you? I was no where near the burn area but what I'm concerned about is looters. I saw the sheriffs arrested some people caught looting. Give me your street, or the area where you live. One of my best friends is a Sheriff Deputy up there. I can get him on his cell and ask him if he can check on it for you. Dave I just called him. He said there are a lot of people "looking" around out there, but they are chasing them off. He said if you send me your addy, he will do a drive by and make sure everything is ok. Send it to my email address. Dave

  25. Thanks Steph! It's pretty brutal right now. I had to go help evac my folks yesterday. My sister and her two boys, and her dog were visiting...so now all told, I've got 5 kids, 7 adults, 9 dogs, and 2 birds at our house! I swung by their house today and the fire is within .5mi of their home. As long as the winds stay down, they should be OK. There are some San Diego cachers that have already been evacuated, and many more in the warning zone. There is some discussion in the SouthWest Forums in the San Diego thread. Dave
