  1. I disagree with your assessment of Jeremy here. If you search his posts in many threads, there have been several complaints of his snarkiness and unfavorable treatment of customers. (Of course, only from the ones that didn't find the humor in those comments!) In other words, if he felt multiple logging was truly affecting the game, he wouldn't hesitate to make the change, even if he really alienates one faction. I remember him saying on more than one occasion that he doesn't care about multiple logging...as long as you don't abuse the system. (i.e. don't go "virtually" log his wife's TB, or you will quickly find out what abusing the system means!)
  2. In general, I agree. However, many of us put a piece of ourselves into our designs...so the gifts become more personal... In most situations, I think most, if not all, disagreements in this issue could be resolved with a little communication beforehand.
  3. I do see your point. I guess we all take our own experience and perspectives into a situation...and that shades our views. I was going from the perspective that if I gave a gift that I felt was special, and that person got rid of it, for whatever reason, my feelings would be hurt. I understand that situations arise, I am just trying to point out that feelings run both ways...and that should be taken into consideration. Agree completely I realize that...and I of all people should be wary of holding onto the material things of this world... But hey, I'm not perfect...I'm human!
  4. My topic is a bit snarky...but I would seriously like your opinions on this. Please keep personal attacks out of here. While the reason I am bringing this up is the result of a specific situation that happened, I am not opening this to re-hash that issue. Rather, I want to discuss the backlash that I personally received due to my participation in that issue. I started a thread about a coin that I saw on Ebay that was for sale. I had received the same coin as a gift, so I knew the meaning behind the gift, and also that the gifter did not want the coins sold. I started a thread asking what the communities opinion was on the issue. Unfortunately, the ensuing bloodbath got out of hand. The thread here got locked down pretty quickly, but I took some heat in another venue. I was accused of not being considerate of the sellers feelings, and indeed, that individual had been hurt by the discussion. (As a note, I shared several PM's with this individual and explained where I was coming from, and I left feeling like we had come to an understanding. I apologized for the attacks that took place, because I was not on a witch hunt, I was looking for opinions.) So, if you are still with me, here is my question: I was told I should be more sympathetic with any individual selling any coins because I don't know what they are going through. My counter is this: If a coin was given as a gift, shouldn't we also be concerned with the feelings of the person that gifted the coin? Don't both deserve equal consideration? I have been told the answer is no in another thread...but I am curious what everyone else thinks...
  5. Again, your assumptions are incorrect. I was posting regarding the feelings of collectors. I do note that I took CB's comment wrong, but I still have a point to make, so rather than derail this thread further...I'll start a new one. Sorry RK for the tangent.
  6. Ahh, but Grasshopper...why are we only worried about the feelings of the one selling the coin? Do not the feelings of the one who gifted the coin matter as well? I didn't see that either the seller or gifter was ever even Mentioned in this post..... I aplogize, you are right. I let my personal feelings shadow the words I read there. My mistake.
  7. Once again you are making assumptions and assertions about my actions that you have no proof of. I have told you what my thinking was, but you choose to assume that I am lying... At least I can post a response to you in these forums without the threat of being booted from the chat room... And again, just because you wouldn't have any stipulations on a coin you gave does not mean that others can't. You can't force conformity here like you can in the chat room.
  8. I would not want to see numbers go away...I like keeping a record of my finds! I have argued many times that there should be a standard. I for one, like to look at the various sites that show cacher rankings and see where I stack up. It really bothers me that one of the top 10 has well over 1000 event logs...when so many of them are multiples. However...that being said, I have actually gotten so tired of letting it upset me, when there are so many other things in life that actually are important, that I have found that I just don't care about this anymore. It truly doesn't matter.
  9. I've had a few of you ask when these would be ready... Well, I've had the coins for a couple of weeks now...I was going to start invoicing, but I've always wanted to try to set up an online shopping cart... Let's just say that I know enough about these things to get in trouble, but not actually make them work. If I don't get it working by tomorrow, I'll throw in the towel, and send invoices via PayPal over the weekend. Thanks!
  10. Ahh, but Grasshopper...why are we only worried about the feelings of the one selling the coin? Do not the feelings of the one who gifted the coin matter as well? No. And there is where your hypocracy shines...

  12. Really? What kind of dose is that? Pill form, liquid, or a shot? And who writes the prescription?
  13. Well, I meant to leave you a serious answer after the jokes... but this guy beat me to it! So, basically I agree. Don't worry about what is accepted, and do what you are comfortable with.
  14. I should hasten to add that whatever you do, DON'T give them to that character with the big-weepy-eyed cat as an avatar! He is as shady as they come!
  15. As far as I know, the most acceptable, and graceful way to bow out is to send all of your coins for me. I will make sure things are handled per the original owners instructions.
  16. Hey Dave, I don't understand either of those terms...what do they mean? (You guys have funny rules up there eh?) Dave Hi Dave We have a cache that is called the Brass Cap Cache. Using that one listing you can log up to 360 unique individual targets. Each target is a Brass Cap and Alberta cachers really have alot of fun with this cache. Over 200 Alberta cachers have multiple logs on this cache and almost every new cacher who comes to events or goes out caching with old hands has no issues logging multiple targets on the Brass Cap Cache. The Brass Caps are on the tops of mountains, they are in downtown city sidewalks and they are out in the country, the Brass Caps are physically similar to Benchmarks. We also use recycled Event pages, the event page is updated with new locations each month and it is a unique event with new faces, new caches placed and often a new venue, the cache page is ismply re-used, it is quick easy and convenient. We aren't doing anything wrong and people who push for the 1GC# = 1 Find are directly attacking our caching culture. We have moving caches and people actually have a friendly competition that is ongoing to see who can log these moving caches the most times. Each hide is clearly unique, it is a new hider and a new location. I get frustrated when people just keep pushing for the adoption of a straightjacket without acknowledging that they are throwing out the baby with the bathwater. I do not log Events multiple times but I do realize that the rules as they exist todsay do allow that to happen and I support the rules as they exist today so I am often in the fray in these conversations. Thanks for asking Dave. Thanks for the explanation! I had never heard either term before, and although I don't like multiple logging of events, both of these activities seem very different from the issue that typically gets folks riled up. Although the Brass Caps does sound like our benchmarks, (which do show in your stats, but do not add a smiley to your account), I think that is a different issue. (Although still subject to debate since it is "different".) Not that there's anything wrong with that! Thanks again for the explanation...and remember, it's my turn to come up there and visit you.
  17. We had a great turn out at the event and everyone seemed to have a good time. We were however left holding 20 or so of our event coins...so there are still some available.
  18. Gee, everyone in here is so much more altuistic than I am... I say sell them on ebay and pocket the money...I know you are out of pocket money for the event...
  19. At our event in February of this year, we had 5 computers that all had internet capability. I announced several times that we wanted all bugs logged out of the event, and please use the computers on-site if at all possible...I think there are still bugs logged into the event...8 months later. It's almost impossible to control.
  20. This fits what I'm seeing... Mine goes from the standard TB, to USA Geocoins, to Yellow Jeep, then 2005 Jeep. Were the jeeps that early in the game that they beat out a lot of geocoins? I went to Mount10Bike's page here http://www.switchbacks.com/gc_geocoins.html and it's an interesting read. Was USA really the 2nd icon? Where did Jeeps fit in? I wonder how many cachers have icons older than a yellow jeep... When I came on the scene in the final days of 2004, there were only Yellow Jeep icons, USA Geocoin icons and Moun10Bike icons besides the regular travel bug tags. It was difficult just getting a USA Geocoin icon since most of the caches in my area that showed coins in them were actually empty... (not much has changed in that regards!) Then, I remember seeing the German Geocoin and GWIII icons out there. A few more started to trickle in...then by the end of 2005, all bets were off. As a note on the order of the icons...I believe it relates to when the coin designs were approved, and tracking numbers issued by HQ. Some coins that take a long time to mint, and then aren't released right away show up on the list earlier than coins that have been out for a while. (This is speculation on my part...I don't know this for sure.)
  21. Elias gave an explanation to the thread the OP also started in the website forum.. Missing Icons
  22. I would go so far as to say you could actually submit it for review. Leave a note for the reviewer that you realize there is a cache there, but you want the spot if that cache is archived...as long as you let them know you will remove your cache if the other cache gets replaced...everyone should be happy. edit for fat fingers...

  24. So it's not activated if I get the activation code??? backhiker Just retrieving the code does not activate the coin. To activate it, you need to go to the trackables section on geocaching.com. From there, you enter the tracking number and activation code. It will allow you to name your coin, type in a mission if youi choose, and state the place you are activating it.
  25. Let me look around through my stuff...I know I have Silver nuts left...I'm not sure if I have a gold or not though.
