  1. My name is Jason Taylor, but most everyone calls me "Jay." After a year or so of fighting for handles on the internet, I came up with "Jaigh_Taylor". It's worked so far!
  2. Just came across this on Hack-A-Day and thought it was worthy of sharing. http://rhamphorinkx.newmail.ru/connect.htm A russian fellow figured out how to make Explorist 100, 200, and 300's talk to a PC. He's apparently successfuly used Ozi-explorer to push waypoints and maps. note: I'm just sharing this article. I have NOT done this experiment and do NOT know what it will do to your hardare.
  3. GSAK allows you to tailor your pocket query to a specific area, or within specific parameters. Also, if you dont have a PDA with a built in GPS, it's quite handy for pushing waypoints to GPSr's. 500+ waypoints in a little over 10 seconds on my Legend. =D
  4. I rarely pull in WAAS birds, and thus have it disabled on my legend. =)
  5. Hmm. An event cache on one of the days you're in COS would rock. Just an idea.
  6. I picked up a Tungsten E a while back for keeping my schedules all in line and whatnot. I decided to bite the bullet and buy cachemate/GSAK all when I was merely looking into the sport. I'm glad I did.
  7. It's also a good event to document in order to raise awareness to our cause, and to show the powers at be that we really do care for the land and do our part to take care of it!
  8. Since I was lame and didnt make it I was wondering how the discussion of forming our own cache group went?
  9. ooh, and it's just before my birthday too! I'll have to see what dates and times look like as the campout approachith, but I should be able to make it!
  10. Coordinates are aproximate. WAAS only gives you a couple of feet, and leaving it enabled will gnaw through your batteries. Also, as others have said: The circumstances from which you will actually benefit from WAAS are rare. The birds are very low in the sky.
  11. I use Cachemate on my Tungsten E in conjunction with GSAK on my laptop. Amazingly simple. =)
  12. I have yet to go out caching all day, but so far my highest cache/time ratio has been 4/hr. It would have been 5 in 1hour and 10 minutes, but there were muggles about. =/ I like to think that's not too bad for a n00b that's only found 8 caches so far..
  13. I'm partial to the E-Trex Legend. Fairly cheap, does maps, and will take a beating.
  14. Char-Broiled was my second cache ever. Being a neophyte, it was kindof strange NOT looking for a good hiding place. Then again, they do say that the best place to hide something is out in the open!
  15. Ooh. What kinna Jeep and what are you putting in it? I'm from Pueblo and have a CJ5 with a 289 in it. I have a set of FSJ Dana 44's to go under at some point as well. Yum.
  16. Has anyone executed a slightly more proactive approach to dealing with law enforcement types? I'm thinking of something along the lines of a press kit, but tailored for regional law enforcement. Just something a local caching group could send to city, county, state, and parks guys so they know what's up. With luck, the information would perkolate down through the ranks to the field personel. I dunno, just an idea. =p
  17. I originally bought my GPSr earlier this year for wardriving. I had just gotten my laptop, and thought the idea of cataloging wireless networks was kindof neat. I contributed a few times, and then my laptop got kindof whiney. Foo.
