  1. I went ahead and deleted my log to appease the owner. But the cache in question was GC21FH5. Should have probably left it up but I am so done with this guy's caches. I had said to BE CAREFUL when looking in the barrel as there is broken glass. then mentioned that we quit due to cemetery visitors. I guess the CITO would have been the way to go.
  2. So I just got an angry email from a hider whose cache we tried to find. It was on a cannon and the barrel contained a broken bottle, sharp edges facing out. We mentioned this in our DNF log, but we had quit searching because of muggles, and it was in a cemetery. I don't look for cemetery caches when folks are visiting. We did not quit because of the broken glass. I mentioned it in consideration for the next cacher so they didn't just jam their fist in a hole filled with broken glass. This evidently ticked them off. They told me to stop complaining and stop finding their caches, which I certainly will. Was I wrong? Or should I just let the next guy get sliced up? If you get injured finding a cache due to sharp metal or broken glass do you warn of it in your log or stay silent? This was the second of their hides that I had found and mentioned sharp material in. The other I sliced my hand open on a sharp guardrail. Said so in my log and that was why I DNF'd it. I wasn't b##ching, just stating why I DNF'd it. Opinions?
  3. Yes. the cable is included. With the basic (free) geocaching.com account you will be able to load one cache at a time directly to the unit. You'll want to get the premium account ($30) so you can have customized caches (pocket queries) sent to your email box so you can load them in bulk. Thanks. Still available? Email sent.
  4. No caches on the map page for me either. Have been running into this for about a month. Off and on. Using vista. Edit to add: It's back now.
  5. I had no problem 2 yrs ago. I think cuba may be a bit more restrictive. Anything goes in Jamaica.
  6. Hi I have "signed up" twice there and am still waiting for some code or someone tto approve that I can go on Nebraka cache. I just think it would be fun to meet some more people doing this and ask questions. Maybe someone can help with this membership sign up snafuuuuuuu.. Thank you Toothfaker. There is an event this weekend in Ashland, just up the road from you. GC1CHG0 There will be a few members there and you should be able to ask questions and meet some local cachers. Might see you there!
  7. We refuse to do front yard caches. Absolutely hate em. I tried a couple when we first started and the coords alway put us in an ambiguos spot. "Could be this yard or that one" Skip them everytime.
  8. Don't listen to the naysayers. Some people will complain about paper cuts if they are swimming in $100 bills. LPC's are perfectly viable caches. They work best if it is a cool place though. When your cache is published read the logs and use them (what people like or don't) to form your next hide. Take what you learn there and apply it the NEXT time. And so it goes.... Soon you will be hiding 10 stage multi's that folks rave about. But some will still whine. The more "cool" caches you place the more others will take to the game. They in turn will hide more. And more will join. And so it goes.... Thanks for hiding a cache though!
  9. I have also found turning off the compass seems to help. Not sure why but it makes a difference.

    How to?

You can go back to your log and edit it. There will be a link to "Upload Photo" under your log entry.
  11. Went and checked it out after reading this. Sounds like fun. Kinda like caching without a GPS. I've been wanting to find out more about orienteering, now I have a reason. The State Games are a lot of fun. Even if you are not a competitive person. The events are usually set up very well and anyone can find SOMETHING that fits. Thanks for the heads up!
  12. I have had a coin sit in someone's pocket for over a year then pop up in a cache. Don't give up hope. To be honest though, the chances of a TB and more so a geocoin, going missing is pretty high. You have to go into it knowing that it will eventually disappear. People like pretty shiny things and tend to keep the cooler doo-dads they find. Sad but true. We have been guilty of holding bugs and coins too long. Sometimes they get forgotten at home. Other times we drag them along as we find micro after micro, with no place to drop anything. We've lost them in the car. They all eventually get out. I don't think people think "I'm gonna hold this TB hostage". I think its more like someone else said, that life just gets in the way. A couple things you can do though; Bag your bug or coin with a TB sheet stating its mission. This helps it stay 'neat' and lets people know what you want your bug to do. Don't make your TB too big. There are getting to be less and less regular caches and if your bug won't fit it won't get placed in a cache. If it does sit in someone's pocket too long a gentle reminder is appropriate. Sometimes people (like us) forget they even have the bug. This just happened to us, we found a TB that wanted people to add casino chips to it. I put on a couple but left it on the workbench in the basement. Forgot all about it till I got a reminder from the owner. We had it out the next day.

  14. In a vacuum no one can hear you scream..... Just wanted to put in my 2 cents on this issue. Wish we could still get the old maps. They really made it much easier to plan a cache trip. We cache with paper (NO PDA) and when preparing for a recent Delorme trip the new map made the whole planning thing take nearly 5 times as long to get only the basic information (D/T, clues, DNF's) with the super slow new-fangled mapping. I had to stay away from high concentration areas due to the time it took to load the maps. If you scrolled even a smidge it took forever again. This new system reminds me of dial-up, it takes THAT long. It took me a week to gather info for 300 caches where before it took an evening. I'm on a G5 Mac, tried using Safari, IE, and Firefox. All suck, only one common denominator. It's devolution. I know no one cares so long as I hand over my membership $$$ but just wanted to put my opinion out there.
  15. When we first started we would look, but inevitably the coords would take me right between two houses. Or to the middle of the street. Got the EVIL scowl from a neighbor once and figured they are just a waste of my time. We no longer do PP caches. Absolutely hate them. Really what is so interesting about your yard? I'd rather do a light-pole at Wally World.

  17. Couldn't they do this at any point after the cache is approved? I've see a few caches that due to maintenance issues or high 'muggle-bility' have been changed to virts or password caches. Both no longer allowed. But I ain't snitchin as it works better.
  18. Working for me now too! Yay!
  19. So they ARE taking away the GC.com maps? We use them much more so than the Googlemaps. Google is nice for panning around but for checking regional densitys (20+ caches) the old map rocks. We always printed it out for our cache roadtrips.
  20. Has anyone else been unable to get cache icons to show up on the Geocaching maps. Not the google maps, they work fine. When we travel we like to print out the GC map to help us navigate a region. However for the last week I can only see the caches when I "Identify" and not when I pan. Anyone else?
  21. ; Imagine there was an activity that you loved above all others. Now imagine you detect what you believe to be a serious, credible threat to the overall health of your beloved activity. You've got a decision to make. Do you hold up a lighter, singing Kum-Bye-Yah, doing nothing as the game devolves to the most common denominator, or do you voice your opinion every time the topic comes up? I see those that tell me what type of cache to enjoy as a bigger threat to my beloved activity. They are a much greater threat as they only try to instill hostility and elitism among their fellow cachers. Don't like em/ Don't hunt them. I went on a hunt this wknd and came across 3 regular caches. However theywere all in overgrown areas used to dump trash. Broken glass, concrete with exposed wire and re-bar, and other assorted trash. Gimme a LPC anytime over this crap.
  22. Nebraskache is a group of cachers from across Nebraska. Find us on Yahoo Groups: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Nebraskache/
  23. Bummer! A week late and dollar short. Actually had the day off for S&G. Hope you found help. How did it go? M
  24. While I admit I don't really care for the parking lot caches (but I will look for them), I have found many others that HAVE taken me to a cool place. A place where the only place to put a cache is a light pole. We have one in a urban park that is VERY cool (so say the logs, not just me) and while ideally it would be nice to put a big ole ammo can there a micro under the skirt is just fine. As I have looked through my finds, I see that many were micros. And I can honestly say that there were VERY FEW that I did not enjoy finding. Its a shame that folks whine about caches. I'm glad we have enough fo find and that the whiners have enough to scoff at. Better than the alternative "there ain't no caches within 30 miles." Thanks to ALL who hide em! Kwit-chur-bitt-chin.
  25. If you haven't bought yet skip the Vista Cx and go for the 60Csx. You will get the SIRF chip (search the forums) which is supposedly awesome under heavy cover. I bought the Vista Cx and it has done alot to ruin my caching. The first 2 months I was lucky to get within 50 ft. Had a software update that made it slightly better. I consistently have days where accuracy is NOWHERE near 10 m. I've had my unit totally freeze up until I could do a software update. Nice when you are out of town on a cache trip. I also have the trouble with the rubber strip on the outside. Now I am afraid to get it damp/wet. Wish I would have stuck to Magellan or at least sprung for the extra $$ on the 60Csx. On the plus side, the Vista is nice and small, looks pretty too. Not enough to make up for the lousy craftsmanship though. Just my 2 cents.
