  1. I learned that our fellow cachers in the military have caches hidden in Iraq and Afghanastan. It would be nice if people would go on those cache sites and post a nice message of support for them. There are several caches hidden.Support our troops and wish them a happy holiday season or just send them best wishes. Thanks!!!
  2. I placed a USA geocoin in a cache. I put it in a plastic bag with instructions. The geocoin went from the original cache to the next and that was the last time it was seen. However, my travel bug dog tag is connected to something and has been from Illinois to Canada and is now in Tennessee on the way home.(I hope) I wont be sending out anymore coins. Happy Caching!!!!!!!
  3. I sauted some mushrooms just a few hours ago. I have been hunting them since my teen years. I'm not one who will eat them every single day. I like them one time and that's all until the next year. I also share mine with those who want them. They are expensive in Illinois. They sell for $12 per pound in my city and yes I have actually seen people paying for them. Personally, I wuld never pay for them. Everyone is trying to get me to tell them my spot. I just say well I went out caching and found them somewhere in the woods. I'll never give my area away. Happy hunting and happy caching!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. Thanks for your reply. I only have one TB and wasn't sure what to do. I will leave it as is then.Happy Caching!!!!!!!!
  5. I agree that a higher quality GPS is needed for serious cachers. My husband bought me mine last year for Christmas because I saw something about geocaching and thought it would be alot of fun. He said start out with this and if you are serious about caching we can get something better. My current GPS serves my purposes while I learn more and more about geocaching.
  6. I agree with the spell checker comment. I have the Magellan Explorist 200. This is my first GPS and I think it does a fairly good job getting me right to the caches. However, when in the woods where there is alot of tree cover the signal isn't always right on the mark. I have ended up walking in circles but for the most part have been led right to most of my finds.Happy Caching!!!!!!!!
  7. How long should I wait before posting my Travel Bug as missing? I have atempted to contact the person listed as having the TB and haven't received a reply as of today. It has been about 3 weeks. Thanks and happy caching!!!!
  8. The caches I am looking for all say micro except for the last one. So I have been looking for a very small container of some sort. They are all placed by the same person and are clues leading to the last one. So I assumed they would all be in the same type of tube. Yes, I know what an ammo box is. I am now looking up what WAAS means. This appeared on my GPS yesterday.
  9. I went out yesterday on my first mission. I wanted to find all 4 that I went to but only found one. Finding it made me want to just stay out and find them all. The wind picked up and got pretty cold fast. I live in Illinois so we have no snow just pretty windy at the moment. My daughter got more excited than I did and now she wants to go out again today and search again for the 3 we could not find. My GPS led me right to the one we found and it is true that there is no one around in the winter. I think I can't find them because I'm not sure exactly what I am looking for. Containers, boxes, or whatever. The one we found was a long black tube. So thats what I was looking for. I'll try again today.
  10. Thanks for all of the replies. I will buy a better GPS once I begin the missions and start finding caches. For now we are short on money so my husband got me the Explorer. I think he figures I will lose interest quickly. Thanks for all of the reading material as well. I will definitely learn alot.
  11. Thanks for the reply. I had not planned on moving anything and I read that an item removed fromthe cache means something is put in its place. I was curious about when the caches were found if others continued to look for the same ones. Now I know the answer to that question. I will continue reading about it in the FAQ's.
  12. HI, I have been interested in geocaching for a year and this year my husband got me a GPS for Christmas. YAYYYYYY!!!!! The person at the store where he got the GPS said the one I have is a good one for geocaching. It's a Magellan Explorist. I have figured out the functions and settings on it and have looked at the site for caches around my area. Do I understand correctly that when you find a cache you do not remove it, just take something out and put something else in? Also, do these caches just remain in the spot until the owner decides not to have it anymore? I've noticed that some are found over and over from 2003 to 2004. I can't wait till the cold is gone so I can get out there.
