  1. C:geo is nice, and free. I have it on my Desire.
  2. And how do you avoid geo trails? Easy tread lightly, stay out of mud! It only takes a couple people walking the same grassy area to start a trail, no matter how lightly one treads.
  3. And what happens when 5000 people post a cache instead of 50?
  4. A friend has an old blue Garmin Legend. Will Topo 2008 work with this unit? AFAIK any Garmin map product should work, though he may be very limited due to the small amount of memory on the Legend.
  5. What GPS? What browser? The Delorme plugin is not working with Firefox 3.6
  6. The Gander Mt is $299 AFTER rebate, the Amazon deal is $299 straight up. Plus you get more. Amazon all the way.
  7. Amazon. All the PN-40's should come with Topo 8 But I would double check to make sure the Amazon one does.
  8. Ha! Do not misunderstand. This is not from some need to understand from a social worker who hopes to rehab the guy. I don't need finality or closure. The click of silver bracelets is enough for me. I am just curious why. What made him decide to steal geocaches?
  9. I'm interested in WHY he has been stealing caches. What made him decide to do this in the first place.
  10. That's the one if you don't have a serial port on your computer. You don't have a Macintosh, do you? I have a fairly new Acer laptop. I'm not even sure what a serial port is. I know I have a couple of USB ports. A serial port is what is on that GPS, so the cable/converter ICHTHYS linked to will convert from USB to RS232 serial needed by the GPS. Ok, I understand. I think, between hubby & I and a few other people to help us, we can figure all this stuff out. In your opinion, if we buy this thing (brand new), and we absolutely hate it, do you think we could sell it and get our money back out of it? Yes, easily on ebay.
  11. Since you want to connect to a laptop you likely don't have a serial port. This cable is easy to install, has the drivers included and you don't have to mess with extra pieces to do a serial to usb connection. This cable does t all. I have an etrex H for my son and use this cable here: http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-Cable-Power-Data-C...=item48396a4332 This is basically the same thing, just made by someone else.
  12. You want this cable http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-PC-data-Cable-for-...=item53df857907
  13. Is this the yellow etrex or yellow etrex H? The standard USB will not work for either
  14. Go with the PN-40, you will love the paperless caching, and the included maps will be great when you get back to the states. The great 60cx is no longer made with the lauded SirfIII chipset so you won't miss anything. The PN-40 has so much more to offer. If you can, wait for the PN-40 to come with Topo9 which hopefully will be out soon.
  15. I am been experiencing GPS reception problems the last couple of days. The other day my Nuvi 255w kept dropping sat lock throughout the day even though it had a clear view of the sky. Today my PN-40 would not get sat lock or even see any sats for about 2 hrs.
  16. You want one of these: http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-Cable-Power-Data-C...=item45f0bc2f35 I have one similar, not sure if same as I bought mine a few years ago and it works fone.
  17. I am trying to get maps for a friends GPS, a Venture HC. It only has 24mb of on board memory. It doesn't auto route so that's not a big deal.
  18. How big are the Michigan maps from the free Ibycus maps?
  19. Just tried it again and it works now. I don't know what changed.
  20. Yes, you are right. I meant charging with the power kit. You can use any battery type and still use the power kit to get external power.
  21. I'm not too sure about this. Do you have a direct quote from DeLorme on this? From the manual (pg 9): Note: The charging circuit in the Earthmate PN-40 was designed for optimum operation with the RCR-V3 Li-Ion battery sold through DeLorme. Other RCR-V3 Li-Ion batteries may work and charge in the device, but DeLorme can make no guarantees of compatible operation. Also, pg 99 Batteries The Earthmate® PN-40 can be powered by two AA batteries (NiMH, alkaline, or lithium), or a DeLorme-supplied Li-Ion rechargeable battery. You’ll find Earthmate PN-Series accessories at www.delorme.com. Rechargeable Lithium-Ion Battery Pack Caution Use only an Earthmate PN-40 Battery Type. Risk of explosion if battery is replaced by an incorrect type. Dispose of used batteries according to the instructions.
  22. Those batteries will be fine in the PN-40 Delorme recommends that you use only their Rechargeable Li-Ion if you are going to use the power kit. But you can use any Nimh or alkaline battery just fine.
