  1. Cuz of this ---> !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That was part of my original complaint about Micros. Because they are cheaper “(by orders of magnitude) people are less likely to care where and how they are placed. I have a cache series of 14 I just started. They will ALL be in regular or large caches. I just bought 5 ammo boxes for $43. (3 are rare 800 round large cans). I then spent $98 at Dollar General to fill them and other future cans. That is over $141 so far and it will only bring me to 7 of 14. So before some of you whine about the junk that gets put into regular caches ask yourself the question when was the last time you put something nice into one. When was the last time that you specifically went to a store to buy items to put into caches? You people with 1,000+ finds I can see how after a while you will get cynical. I also will bet the majority of you do not have kids that do it with you for the most part. My series of 14 is going to change a little from what I originally planed. After reading all the negative replies from so many of you I have decided to keep it KID/CHILD centered. There a few of us out here who are trying to keep the “sport” from degenerating down to the lowest common denominator. (micro in a parking lot) Mathatalist
  2. To get micros limited. There are a few good micros out there. But the majority of new ones are lame. As more and more of the good hiding spots are taken the new micros will get lamer and lamer. I fear two or three years from now, Geocaching will be another fad that has come and gone. One of the things that will have killed it, is the lame caches. My kids like to find treasure not a file canister. Remember that is how the game started. I do understand that some people prefer not to trade swag and that is ok also.
  3. As you can see from my third sentence above, within 50 miles Radius there are 100 caches. As someone said a bad placed micro might be better than none at all. It is just that after a 25 mile ONE WAY drive to get to a cache I would like to be able to trade items. With 3 kids along it is more about the treasure hunt/trade then finding the cache. But you are correct. When picking which 50 mile direction I want to head to I try and see what type of container it is beforehand. It is just frustrating when you drive that far and you get to a place with a micro and it has enough open woods to hide a TRASH CAN. This has happened more than once. Of course if you live in the middle of NY or LA you might never have that much free space. Mathatalist
  4. I guess I should not be surprised most of you DO NOT want to ban micros. I still would like to severely limit their use. One poster hit the head on the nail. “Full size caches cost money.” I put out a full size ammo box with over $20 worth of new swag in it, only to have it stolen a month later. I bought a new full size box and put another $20+ of swag in it, and re-hid it in a different area. I know some people do not want to go to the expense or trouble. Some of you people are too use to living in the city. Some of us prefer the country, with land all around and no neighbor 20’ out my bathroom window. Heck it is 250’ just to my 1+ acre pond. Before people start giving advice about filter this, or do not look for micros, it is a little hard when that is ALL THERE is. Some of you will say “Mathatalist that is the price you pay for living in the country”. There is a little truth in what you say. My home is at N 30.70006 W 96.61748. Do a search. This is from the bottom of page 5. That is 100 caches. 50mi SE, 50miSW, 50.3NE, 50.4mi NE, 50.4 NE, 50.4mi NW, 50.4mi, NW. Look at the MILES friends. So yes, after I have driven 25 to 50 MILES to find a cache I would like it to be more than a match box with paper. Mathatalist.
  5. You have been to many states Geocaching and that must have been cool. But I bet on your road trips you passed many a mile where there were NO caches anywhere. Surely not one every .1 mile. Kind of hard to log 260 caches when there might not even be 2 caches in 26 miles. But if we were in the strip centers of cache saturated cities maybe we could. Lets see, 26 miles times .1 miles spacing gets you 260. I have a feeling you did not find a cache every .1 miles in Iowa. I don't think anyone doubts that many caches were found. It's just not the same as the distances some people have to drive to find 1 cache. Mathatalist
  6. You would not do that where I live. Mainly because there are not that many caches to begin with. Maybe in Houston, Dallas, or San Antonio you could. You need to remember that a lot of people reading these forums do not live in a city where you can dang near throw a baseball from one cache to the next. It gets back to what I said in another string. All the stupid micros just to put a micro is pointless. Mathatalist
  7. I don't know about you, but I am TIRED of seeing all these micros. ESPECIALLY when a larger cache could have been placed. I live in Caldwell Texas. I did a search of all new caches one month old or less in a 100 mile radius. That BTW is 31,416 square miles. Many times the size of Rhode Island. There were 179 new caches. Only THREE were listed as large. HALF were micros. What is the use of carrying a travel bug, or swag if Half the new caches are micros? I would like to see Micros and Virtual caches severely limited if possible. Don’t get me wrong Micos have their place. I just think that place should be severely limited, and proper. We have all found a micro cache on the edge of some woods or park where a large cache could have been placed with a little effort.
  8. You are THE MAN.. I posted my question on Texas Geocom and someone had read your response here. From your advice I will give it a try. Thanks buddy and thanks for the pictures. Mathatalist
  9. I have posted this question at Texas Geocaching to try and get some suggestions. Maybe someone here can give me a little insight. My desire is to place Treasure Chest around Texas. These chest would actually just be a code phrase inside a cache and I would snail mail the winner the the prize after they answered the phrase. I wanted to do 12. One each month. I am not rich so the total value of each chest would probably be less than $100. Dapper Dan did something very similiar to what I have wanted to do for a long time. The problem is some Groundspeak rules as I understand them. I would prefere not to have to create a new page for each chest. A single page that just keeps getting added to would make it easier for people to track. I would not burry anything requiring a shovel or like item to get, but it would be covered or concealed very well. I DO NOT want to give the exact CORDS. That kind of defeats the purpose I think. I wanted to give everyone about a 200' radius to start off with. As long as the reviewer is honest and would not tell anyone I would be willing to give a revier exact cords or even take them to the site myself. (in the Brazos Valley) Any thoughts, suggestions, phone numbers, e-mails? Someone suggested for me to try Terracaching.com because they might have a little more flexebility in there listing. Thanks for the help Mathatalist & Crew
  10. I take my 3, 12, 13 with me to all the cache hunts except for the ones I do during lunch. I have learned I have to avoid any park cache with a jungle jim set. My 3 year old just does not understand why we would come to a park and he can not play. Mathatalist & Crew
  11. Apparently someone changed my account from regular to Premium for me. I did not have to post the number from the e-mail SINCE I NEVER GOT IT. Thanks to whoever fixed my problem for me.
  12. Sorry if this is not the right place. I have e-mail Groundspeak and have a tracking number but they will not fix my problem. I have paid for a year of premim service. I even received the 8 travel bugs I ordered but they will not send me a premium account activation. With no human to talk to I am stuck with e-mail. This is turning me off, and I hope other people that are thinking about paying will have better luck then me. To my left of my name it says premium. I am getting very confused.
