  1. My PQ's run just fine as well, and always have. My friend, the new member , however cannot get any of his to run. Seems to be a new premium member issue.
  2. I got a friend to join geocaching, then I gifted him a premium membership. The pocket query function is not working for him. We tried several pocket queries over a few days and none of them would generate. As I have been using pocket queries every week for over 15 years now, I am positive that his settings are all correct, the proper day to run is checked, etc... I sat next to him and we checked each and every setting...they are correct. Once he submits the query, the preview pops right up, but the query never generates. I have checked all of his account settings, ensured he is not running a VPN, etc. None of the fixes I have seen in this forum are relevant in his case, there appears to be a bug in the pocket query process for new premium members. How do I get the team at geocaching.com to look into this?
  3. I use a chromebook and have no issues with my Garmin etrex 30. Works exactly the same as a PC or a MAC: 1. Download either a single gpx file or a pocket query. 2. Connect your gps unit to the chromebook via usb 3. Open the "files" app on the chromebook. You will see your downloaded gpx files in the "downloads" section and your gps unit as a storage device. 4. Click on the gear icon in the upper right corner and select new window....you will now have two identical windows open 5. In one of the windows open your gpx folder within your gps unit storage area 6. In the other window open your downloaded file 7. Drag the downloaded file from one window to the gpx folder in the other window Remember to delete the download files on the Chromebook fairly often as there is only about 8GB of usable hard drive space on the Chromebook.
  4. How do I expand the number of logs in the Etrex 30 paperless feature from the default 5 to some larger number of logs?
  5. Thanks everyone for all the pm's, the units have been sold.
  6. The etrex units use a standard usb cable. Many digital camera cables will work just fine, as do Blackberry phone cables. Any decent electronics store will have a cable. But first check your other electronics, you may already have a cable that works. It just dawned on me that you may have an older etrex unit that does not have a usb port on the unit at all. In that case, all is still not lost. You can get an RS232 USB converter cable. Should cost you around $10 on the internet.

  8. I started by looking to send these in to Gazelle.com a place that buys old gear. they quoted $39 for the 600 and $32 for the Meridian. They cover the shipping as well. In addition to the units, I have both street and topo software for the 600, extra chargers etc.. You can have all the above for $75, plus shipping.
  9. I have several units and am looking to downsize my geocaching drawer. For sale cheap: a mint condition explorist 600 with all original cables, manuals, etc...I also have several mounting brackets, extra battery, and maps. I'll throw in a Meridian color as well.
  10. I have an explorist 600 in mint condition. Maps, mounts, chargers manual etc... Are you still looking for a unit?
  11. I finally discovered that my problem was windows. When I used GSAK on an older computer, it worked just fine.

  13. I am trying to upload waypoints from my GSAK program to a Meridian Color. I keep getting a message "too many communication errors". I have used GSAK for a few years and have not had any trouble with several Garmins and and two versions of explorists. Any Meridian owners out there that can give me a hand here?
  14. Can anyone help me with the compass settings on my 60 csx and Vista HCX? They are both on default settings right now. My issue is that when geocaching and navigating to a cache using the compass page, the compass needle points in the wrong direction about 50% of the time. I have recalibrated both several times, this doesn't help much. I end up having to use the map page to ensure I'm headed in the proper direction. I have used both a Vista Cx and 60 CS in the past, and those compasses worked perfectly 100% of the time. My conclusion is that the high sensitivity compasses on the 60 csx and Vista HCX somehow need to be set up differently. My 60Csx developed an unrelated problem a few months back and was replaced by Garmin. The replacement unit has the same compass problem as my original unit. In frustration I bought the Vista HCX....same problem again. The compass will point to the opposite direction, even though the distance readout is correct. Help?
  15. I use a Palm 100 I got on Ebay for $8. Runs Cachemate just fine.
  16. I have an Explorist XL which I bought brand new and have used once. Includes a 1GB SD card with much of the US Mapsend maps already loaded. In addition to the owners manual, data cord, and power cord, I also have auto power cord, mounting bracket, and Invisishield protector on face. No dings or scratches anywhere. I was going to use it in my Westfalia camper as both a vehicle unit and Geocaching unit, but ended up buying a Garmin Nuvi 660 for the vehicle. Need a smaller Geocaching handheld. Will trade for Garmin Etrex Vista cx or GPSMAP 60 cx.
  17. From most recent to oldest: Garmin 60CSX Magellan explorist XL Garmin VistaC Garmin 60CS Magellan explorist 600 Garmin Legend Garmin Vista Magellan 315 My favorite for geocaching....Magellan explorist 600.
  18. I am very conflicted. In addition to my 600, I own a Garmin 60CS and an Etrex Vista. The 600 travels with me because I have virtually all of the US on my 1GB SD card. I use it in conjucntion with GSAK and a Treo 650, so I am totaly paperless. Best setup I have found to date. I much prefer the Garmin maps and would switch in a minute if Garmin offered the 60CS with an SD card option. Until then, if I lost my 600...I'd buy another one.
  19. I am trying to figure out how to download a page of caches from geocaching.com in the GPX format to GSAK. All I can get are LOC formats when I do the page at a time option.....I can get GPX by going to each individual cache page, but that gets tedious. Thanks for any help. I did try reading forums, FAQs, etc but could not find any info on this.
  20. I've read all the posts I can find, but they are way too technical for me. All I want to do is to automatically download caches from the Geocache site to my Expolorist 600. I uses to use an Etrex Vista and just downloaded via Easy GPS. easy GPS does not support the Explorist 600...how do I download the coordinates? Thanks.
