  1. I leave today! so for right now, I will make notes on caches I download. After I return, I will figure out how to use my Palm Centro for the hunt. thanks to all for suggestions. I will be back on I'm sure to ask questions on my return. I hope I find at least one cache in Venice!! Then on to Salzburgerland (outside Salzburg) to continue the hunt.
  2. Ok, I get the concept, but no clue how to do it. I've had the unit for less than 24 hours, but leave for vacation tomorrow!! I'm doing a crash course in geocaching. How do I download in the GSAK format?? I've tried searching the forum but GSAK is too short of a query. Can you point me in the right direction? I know that we newbies are a pain in the a**, but someday, hopefully, I'll be able to assist and return the favor to another newbie.
  3. I'm leaving on Thursday, and I'm still trying to figure out my GPS! I've found one cache, but clueless on a second on in my neighborhood. I'll be lucky to find anything in Europe at this rate!! We are using what we got. 1. quarters (I'm too cheap for $bill) 2. Key chains from Hawaii (yes, I know not California, but we bought a boat load last summer, and hey they're from Hawaii!!) 3. postcards-hopefully someone will mail us one.
  4. I have a premium membership. I downloaded a cache to my etrex ventureHC. Is there any way to get the "clues" downloaded? I get the coordinates, but none of the written text that helps with locating the cache. Am I missing something when I download? Thanks
  5. American sports (I never would have thought of that as the only sport we follow is Soccer (football to everone else!!) Baseball cards are cheap and light weight. Keep those ideas flowing. I got a geocoin today and now I have to figure out how to do it correctly. It has Mount McKinley on it (little choice at REI today) but since we've been there, it was the best of the lot. We are going to leave in a cache in the Alps since its a mountain geocoin. When the kids get sick of seeing the sights, I thought we could do a little geocaching!
  6. I like the postcard idea. We live near Yosemite and that would be fun for the kids. Its kind of a message in a bottle idea (which we once found in Ireland!) I will visit the dollar store today and see if I can find some california stuff. You guys are awesome!
  7. I will upgrade to premium! I'm going to find my first geocache at home before I go. This is something that I have wanted to do with my kids for a long time. I hope that all goes well and I can figure out how to work the unit and find some caches in Europe. We are also visiting Austria. We are staying with friends which will be great as most caches are only in German and I will need some translation. I will try to report as I go.
  8. I am new to geocaching. I want to only leave "good" swag. I need to some ideas!! We are traveling to Europe and would like to be good Americans, no ugly Americans. In searching the forums, my first idea of leaving a California state quarter (something that represented where we are from) was in the bad swag list. What could we take easily with us and use?
  9. I just ordered and will be here the day before I leave. I hope that I have time to try it out before we leave! I'm hoping it will be a nice addition to fun in Venice. I'm hoping to find some travel bugs that need a long distance transfer. I'm studing up on travel bugs so I do it right.
  10. I want to have some fun with my kids while in Europe. I would like to buy a GPS for geocaching. I don't know if the kids will like it, so I dont' want to spend a lot. Would the Garmin Venture HC be a good choice to start with and use in Europe?
