Think it may be a little overkill possibly. Is this the sort of design you envisaged?: Obv. all the outlining is in raised gold.

Here are the latest takes on the designs: Transparent enamels for the county and sea, with textured waves under the sea and another texture under the county... look carefully ) What is the Feeling about adding a hole to the top middle? The updated version(s) of the landmark 3d back (well 2 new versions): And (which i like best of the 3 glasto tor pictures): Where's it to? is how us Somerset folk say Where is it? (which i thought would be appropriate for a geocoin!) For those who are unfamiliar with our language over here in the south west

Exactly what i was trying to do But here is my latest version of the county coin: Changes: Font all unified and sizes altered. Separator dots evened up on each side. Cream colour on the front side of the coin updated (the Groundspeak Xs are still there, but a bi harder to see, but remember they will be in raised polished gold) Textures added to the county and sea as suggested by Geocoin guy (you need to look closely) I know it doesnt look that different but it is updated, i promise I tried putting one of the Xs under the foot and removing the other, but it didn't look right :/ What is the Feeling about adding a hole to the top middle? The updated version(s) of the landmark 3d back: And (which i like best of the 3 glasto tor pictures): Where's it to? is how us Somerset folk say Where is it? (which i thought would be appropriate for a geocoin!)

How would you put cheese on there? im not sure how i would do it, and then the text at the bottom would need to change.. thoughts?
-
Have you got links to any examples of the textures you have mentioned?
-
I will even up the dots on bot sides, i think that works too. the text spacing is something that would be sorted (these images are just really quick jobbies that i threw together) and the font is exactly the same as the above i think, however i think its my error in pressing bold or hitting the scroll wheel accidentally increasing the size. What do you mean texture around the dragon? the recessed area around the dragon isn't actually recessed so to speak, it will be a cream enamel (Cream and Maroon are the counties main colours) The 3d back idea is just an idea that was really quickly mocked up (the only reason there is no trackable at.. on there. (there were thoughts in the UK forums that another coin produced for the 2nd UK mega event uses a cider theme and to go with a landmark instead) I hadn't thought about translucent enamels, what were your thoughts? which of the 2 coins would you prefer? I'm looking to get as many opinions as possible.

Hello folks i thought i would kind of X-post this here, I have been toying with the idea of a Geocoin for the County of Somerset in the UK. County coins are few and far between in the UK (or so it seems), and it appears Somerset has never had one of its own.I have come up with 2 basic ideas so far with the intent to produce ONE coin. and: The front of the coin (ignore any red spots it was an image compression thing) shows a dragon with a mace which is the county emblem from the assumed county flag (there is no "official flag for Somerset) in the county colours with the county motto and its English translation with a couple of geocaching Xs for decoration (the grey background will actually be a rich cream colour) The enamel will not be flushed, but very very slightly recessed so as to give the coin some feel. the reverse of the first coin shows the county in-situe by the sea and an apple with a geocaching X in it. Apples relate to Cider and Somerset is known world wide as the home of it. Everything in Yellow is the polished gold finish to the coin. the reverse of the coin is a quick and dirty mock up with Glastonbury Tor (a famous Somerset landmark) this would be in relief recessed into the coin. What do people think? in general im looking for suggestions on how to improve it and more importantly would people buy it? (as i would need to cover any costs really!) What do you like to see in regional coins? 1.5" or 1.75"?
-
I do really like the apple design myself, its a bit more colourful, i tthink it looks pretty i might just Xpost this over to the geocoin forum and try and pick up some ideas as well there.
-
ok so i will scrap the cider coin and look more at the Glasto Tor Idea. What should it look like. I need some input into the design now, the quick version i did looks a bit plain i feel (at the moment anyway ) Even if you are not from Somerset or wouldn't like to buy the coin, stick your oar in Should it be recessed relief or maybe a coloured enamel version of same sort of image? what text would you like to see? Im trying to go for a coin that a few people have input into the overall design as im not going for a personal coin

GS needs to be careful i think. The app which shall not be named is what got me into geocaching. i saw it on a top android apps site, tried it out and i am now in love with the sport and I suspect it may draw many others.

I Like the latin I Love Pronto Pedro from the OP though -
I am from Near W-S-M and i have a great love of Cider. So cider was the route i have gone down first and i've come up with this: the front is slightly updated (text and markers) (i think im pretty happy with that now, they grey/cream needs playing with though) and ignore the red spots, thats just from the Image compression to GIF. The reverse is of course Somerset with an apple with the X logo in it. So this would be a fully enamelled coin. (6 colours) Im also not sure about the text on the reverse, maybe: "Geocachers of Somerset" Maybe Adding UK in there somewhere? "Somerset Geocachers, UK" "Geocachers of Somerset, UK" Maybe some west country dialect instead of welcome to cider country? anyway, more thoughts? i will try and have a play with Glastonbury Tor [EDIT] I had a quick and dirty play with a Glasto Tor Idea: Tor in relief rather than enamelled. An image something like this I would have thought. What about coin size? 1.5" or 1.75"?
-
Yep at the moment i have no ideas for the other side! I like the idea of the Map, Something cider related (It is the home of the stuff after all!) or the tor! I suppose those are the front runners at the moment! What do people think of the design i've played about with so far? would people be interested in buying it? (covering the costs and all that jazz)

Ok so as i've been told there is no Somerset Geocoin I was having some thoughts.. Even though im relitively new to geocaching, I would very much like to have a coin that represents me. Being a great fan of where i come from a Somerset Geocoin i thought would be appropriate. This is what i have come up with so far: Very roughly my idea is: Light yellow is raised, Dark Yellow is recessed (also the black is recessed except the black inside ring, just imagine that isn't there!) The text is recessed in a solid metal band (inspiration taken from the Essex parks coin) Finished in Polished Gold. The text is the Somerset Motto and the Dragon of course is the county image (despite not having an official flag, the dragon is seen on the unofficial one) 2nd layout: Same as above, finished in polished gold, different font, added the GC logos Not flush, the gold very slighly raised above the enamel. Now as ive said these are only rough ideas, i would be looking for areas to improve and ideas for the back design. Things that represent Somerset etc. And furthermore would people be interested in such a coin? i only want a couple for myself so the other 95 odd would be "up for grabs" par-say. (based on a 100 run) I thought here would be more appropriate than the Geocoin forum as its not anywhere near a completed design and i want some local imput!

dadgum thats a shame. Although VERY local to me, i wouldnt want one as i didnt attend the event. See i want a personal coin that i can just use to log my mileage, im not particularly looking to start a collection, so would like to have a coin that represents me Are there many collectors in the UK or in general who buy regional coins? im half tempted to design and have one made (ive seen quotes for around £400 banded about on the forums for 100 coins.. would money be made back on them? do you reckon? I was thinking something along the lines of that rather beautiful Essex coin above, but of course tailored for Somerset. -

Is it possible to create your own individual albums? I would like to create a Geocoin album, TB album, Cache Album etc etc in my gallery so its a bit less cluttered, is this possible?

Happy Easter! I have a coin for both of you. It may be a few days before I get the adoption request sent. Thank you very much! Very kind of you! Ooooh im very excited now!

I would really love to adopt a coin if anyone would be kind enough!

What makes a good cache? I'm looking at placing my first cache and want to make it a good one! (im thinking traditional size so items can go in it) What do you think makes a good cache? What would make your quote, unquote "Dream Cache"? Im looking for ideas on what to do (I live in a rural countryside area in a small village, but not far from a few towns and a major motorway junction to give an idea of location)

Is there a Somerset Coin? I really want my own coin and I want it to be something that relates to me. A Somerset one would fit the bill perfectly! does one exist? -
Some nice great stories so far, thanks guys
