  1. Im planning on making a series of more elaborate (in physical design) caches with physical puzzles in to give a location of a final possibly cryptex style cache. Instead of having a signable paper log, could i engrave a trackable code that is set to discoverable only so could act as a digital logbook as such, whilst at the same time proving you have been there and have solved the cryptex?
  2. Thanks for that, its handy to know glad you like the looks even though its not for you! I didnt think there would be too many problems with Coins and Pins as they seem to be a pretty major player!
  3. only if I or other people buy some to sell or trade, The postage though is actually pretty reasonable. the 2 coin set works out at £14 including postage. I think the presale determines how many are made (im not sure) out of curiosity why dont you ususally do presale?

  6. Son, You couldn't hit a cows backside with a banjo.
  7. Guys you may remember a while back i had my idea for a Somerset Geocoin and a fair few of you had an input into how it looked and what went on it. Now it has finally been made and is available for presale. I think they have come out really nice, so a big thank you to all who chucked in ideas, coments and critisism! The coin comes in Antique Silver and Antique Bronze. Links: 2 Coin Set Silver Bronze Link to the xpost: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=264378
  8. Ok guys after a legthy process of design the Somerset Geocoin I am very happy to announce the Somerset Geocoin is up finaly up for presale! The coin comes in Antique Silver and Antique Bronze. Links: 2 Coin Set Silver Bronze A lot of work has gone into these coins in the designs and ideas from a variety of cachers in the county of Somerset (UK). I am so happy with the way this coin has come out! Mint Proof: Original concept idea: Somerset Geocoin This coin was conceived after being relitivly new to Geocaching and becoming fascinated with Geocoins. When I realised that there had never been a coin produced for the county of Somerset in the UK, I decided to create one as it is a place i love and have lived and grown up in all my life. Somerset is a county found in the South West of England, and together with Devon, Cornwall and Dorset make up what is known as the "West Country" Which is mainly rural area famous for its cider and agriculture. Somerset is the home of (the majority of) Exmoor national park and Cheddar gorge (located near the village of Cheddar which gives its name to the famous cheese). It is also a hotbed of Geocaching in the UK. The coin came about from some original ideas and some that were brought together from a collection of people from or who love the Somerset/West Country area. Coin explanation: On the front side of the coin you can see the Somerset Dragon holding a mace, The county symbol of Somerset which also appears on the adopted flag of the county (There is no official flag) The coloured enamels are also in the county colours. Around the edge the coin reads "All the People of Somerset" which is the county motto and on the bottom "Sumorsaete Ealle" which is the same but in its Anglo-Saxon form as it is more commonly seen. The reverse side features a 3d relief of St. Michaels Tower on Glastonbury Tor, which is possibly the most famous and well known landmark in Somerset and a very popular location for walkers, ramblers, cachers and families to go. The Glastonbury area is well known for the world famous Glastonbury Music festival. The text reads "Welcome to the West Country" as Somerset is the main gateway to the area of England known as the West Country and is mre often than not the first county that people think of when asked about the West Country. The bottom text reads "Where's it to?" which is a famous Somerset colloquialism for "Where is it?" (for anyone outside of the UK or not familiar with the Somerset/West Country accent it could probably be most likened to what is commonly referred to as "Pirate") I hope you guys like it!
  9. The above are only guidelines as to what would be idea, i'm just looking for suggestions and where to buy really!
  10. Hey Folks i have recently got myself back involved with scouting as a way of giving something back to where i've come from. I brought up the idea of Geocaching and they loved it and have even managed to procure a £300 grand from a local group in order to buy GPS Units. So basically what GPS units shall we buy? ideally we would like 3/4 Rugged Easy to use Not easy to break by scouts as paperless as possible! and more to the point where to buy from! Cheers! Stefan
  11. the Venture may be a bit out of the price range by the looks of it, we are looking at £60 to £100 per Unit if possible. But i will note it as a suggestion!
  12. hey folks, basically im getting myself back involved with the scout troop i was with as a nipper. At a meeting tonight I brought geocaching up and the troop as some places that we can apply to with a reasonably large chance of coming away with funding. so basically they are looking at applying for 4 GPS units. I need something that fits this bill: Easily available in the UK Reasonably inexpensive (as we are looking at 4) As indestructable to scouts as possible (Key point!) Easy to use Does'nt need to be massivly high spec, just useful for geocaching in particular and other scouting activites! Any help is appreciated! cheers!
  13. I cant wait either. I just hope everyone likes it, as most of the people who have contributed to this and the other thread have helped mould the coin into the final design seen in the die art
  14. *UPDATED DIE ART* Suggestions on text layouts and capitalisation have changed on "Where's it to?" and "West Country" This is now the final Die Art!
  15. *UPDATED DIE ART* Suggestions on text layouts and capitalisation have changed on "Where's it to?" and "West Country" Many thanks folks. This is now the final Die Art!
  16. Im so glad you like it! the amount of times i had to explain myself when i was at uni was ridiculous! but i think it is so apt for a geocoin. i am so happy with the die art (the 2 points mentioned in this thread have been noted and will be changed, Thanks by the way!) i cant wait to see the samples!
  17. and then once a Dorset coin is produced (along with my currently in production Somerset coin) the entire West Country will have been covered!
  18. Im glad you guys like the die art so far! Some samples should be getting made up soonish
  19. Thanks! and thanks again! for pointing that out! In my excitement in seeing the finished art for the first time i missed that little detail! i will update my vendor right away!
  20. BIG UPDATE: The coin is going to be produced! and here we have the Die Art: Explanation: Frontside Shows a dragon which is the county emblem and the text "All the People of Somerset" which is the county motto. "Somersaet ealle" is the motto in its Olde English form. Reverse Shows the St. Michaels tower on top of Glastonbury Tor in 3d relief, which is a very famous Somerset landmark. pictures: http://www.knoll-farm.co.uk/L2/Countryside...nbury%20Tor.jpg http://www.bbc.co.uk/somerset/content/imag...wto_240x350.jpg http://www.draper-of-glastonbury.com/image...tonbury_tor.jpg http://media-cdn.tripadvisor.com/media/pho...tonbury-tor.jpg It is a site for lots of walks, there is a cache up near it as well. Glastonbury (well near it) plays host to the world famous Glastonbury music festival as well: Glastonbury Glastonbury Tor It has the text "Welcome to the Westcountry" as somerset is situated in the southwest of England, and collectivly with Cornwall, Devon and possibly Dorset are known as the Westcountry of which Somerset is the gateway to it. Somerset It also has the text "Where's it to?" which is a Somerset colloquialism for "Where is it?" which i thought was pretty apt for geocaching so that is the coin, what do you guys think? It will be the first and only coin currently produced for the county of Somerset in the UK which is a hotbed of caching. Im not entirely sure of the finish yet, im thinking foggy/misty gold. its just great seeing the finished die art and it just looks amazing in my opinion! i really love the little people!
