  1. I have not left my GPS, but I did leave a $350 pair of sunglasses on a day of geocaching. The problem is I didn't know exactly which cache is was except that it was later in the day when I still needed them out side the woods, but not in the woods. I learned my lesson.
  2. #46 made me cringe. I lost a pair of $250 Maui Jim sunglasses while doing a marathon caching run... Some lucky SOB is going to get some good swag.
  3. I put crisp $2 bills in my new caches for 1st to find folks.
  4. Here is one I've been working on. This is not deployed yet. For the description, I was just going to put something like, "log book is in camo film container..."
  5. Grrrrr... Heading on a trip, thought I'd bring some bugs along. Stopped at 5 different caches reporting a total of 8 TB's; none were to be found. The most recent cache was last found 8/6, which was two weeks ago, so it is possible someone picked it up and has not logged yet. A few of the caches had no logs since July. Oh well, such is life...
  6. We're planning a trip with the kids up to Grand Marais, MN. I see a lot of caches from Duluth, MN all the way up to the Canadian border. Basically, with the kids I'd like to pick a select few caches to stop for. Do people have some favorites from along the North Shore?
  7. She seemed so wholesome until :18 when she is downloading the caches. Note three different kinds of beer bottles and the pack of smokes on the table.
  8. It is on city owned property. I called them and they were not aware of any ordinances regarding geocaching within their city. It's an open area that anyone can walk/drive though. It just seems really weird to me that nobody has placed a cache in this area. I don't even see any multi's or puzzles nearby. It seems to good to be true, but can't figure out why. My calculations show this is a hair over 3 sq miles. I guess I'll try placing my cache there and see what happens...
  9. Well, if it makes you feel any better, a recent 2 hour drive up north ended up taking 5 hours... Our whole family would be in the van and my wife would be refreshing her GPS Cache list, "Oh, there's another one just ahead on the right!"
  10. Is this a cache that would get approved? I'd like to place a cache on public land that is used several times a year for various large events like a circus, a county fair, several rock concerts. It is normally pretty vacant for most of the year, but when there are events, there are 10's of 1000's of people. The reason I ask is that this area covers several square miles, yet there are no geocaches within the area, but there is good cache density on all sides of the park area. I have searched extensively and unable to find any restrictions nor is the city aware of any ordinances that govern geocaches. I can't figure out if this is an untapped area or if there are some rules I am not aware of.
  11. A trackable tattoo would be really cool. Much better than hiding a nano on my belly button and having my geo-wife try to find it.
  12. Ok, there must be a trick to finding these. I'm heading out of town and though it would be fun to move some along. I did a pocket query to show only trackables in a radius of my home - it came up with quite a few. Unfortunately, of the 13 caches I visited in the last few days supposedly having a TB's, only 3 actually did. Is it normal for so many to go missing? I've been leaving a note for the TB owners when I am unable to locate them in a cache.
  13. I would also be interested in seeing a forum topic devoted to this. I just introduced a friend in a wheel chair to geocaching and she loved it. But should could not get to 90% of the caches in our area.
  14. ...when it took me 3 hours to run to the store for a gallon of milk because I could just grab one along the way.
  15. ...I was out in my yard behind some trees and thought, "huh, this would be good hiding spot." How about you?
  16. Do you use a traditional compass in conjunction with GPS to find caches? If so, please tell me what you are doing and how you are using it. Sorry for sounding naive, but I have not used a compass since Cub Scouts, long before GPS.
  17. The vehicle travel bug also advertises that you might have expensive GPS equipment in your car. Is this something you want to advertise?
  18. Maybe they should send a herd of geocachers after Bin Ladin - They might have a better chance of finding hidden things...
  19. The best advice when something like that happens is to simply send the GPS to me and go buy a new, better one.
  20. I put a sharpener in the cache baggie with a sticker that says "do not take this." Guess what happened? Someone took it.
  21. Maybe on the cache detail page, where the attributes are listed, they could add a pickle icon.
  22. It would be nice to know what all the "signals" are for hookers, gay people, drug dealers, etc so I don't inadvertently send THE "signal" without realizing it. I frequently back my car into parking spaces so I can make a clean getaway. I had no idea until this thread that it might be one of THE signals.
  23. How cool would it be to put a small log in a fortune cookie?
  24. We've got one guy here who has over 300 hides; it makes it really difficult for others to come and place any in the area at all since all the parks here are saturated with this guys caches.
  25. I agree, but in all fairness, I don't always see the description. If I go caching with just my Blackberry, I can see the names of the caches and the distance from me. It's a few extra steps to view the description, and sometimes I am unable to read them at all because it times out when trying to retrieve the data from the website. The descriptions are not "pre-loaded" onto my blackberry.
