  1. People are dumb, that's the only conclusion I've come to. How did I get to that conclusion? When a travel bug going to New Orleans from Wisconsin ..... currently in Illinois ...... winds up in Michigan from a guy that is no newb. It got kidnapped for the 'geobash' up north ... the bash must stand for how they treat the integrity of the game. That was example one. I had my first geocoin go out, I even took a drill to it, and mashed it with a hammer so it would not go missing, after reading the 'how-to' on how to make it last a long time. Didn't help. My first coin wound up in a cache that just poof, is now gone. Yes, it happens, but over and over starts to get lame. That was example 2. I put out 2 travel bugs early in the spring. One of them, I put out with a new cache I placed. The cache had had 8 visitors, and I had heard no mention of the travel bug I left. So, I emailed the last logger, and they said they had seen no TB. So, I emailed the previous 7 and asked them. Zuma! emails me back that he took it and hadn't logged it. Weeks go by, I emailed him again. Weeks go by and he replies that he must have misplaced it, hopefully it will show up. It still has not shown up, and he is no newb. Just a moron that is more concerned about his numbers than the integrity of the game. That's example 3 That covers the 3 travel bugs I have put out, suppose if I buy more, I'll have more 'bad examples' to share. TNLNSL from now on only (as well, there are those people that have traded with me from my cache ... they leave a rock and take a pure rogers silver antique item ......
  2. Jake, yes I see your point, but there has to be some way to hold people accountable for their fowlups. Some other guy just took one of my travel bugs, traveling DOWN the mississippi river to N.Orleans .......... from Wisconsin (it was in Illinois going S). Where did he log it in? MICHIGAN!!! I mean, omg. That would so be a negative feedback. I guess when a cache goes missing, or muggled, maybe it's just revenge on that user, a little feedback of their own. *shrug* I'm tired of the morons that show no integrity to the game, tired!
  3. Well, I'll never buy anymore trackables, 2 of my 3 are already missing, and it's not the newbs that are spoiling the game! I wrote Jeremy a PM asking that a feedback system be put in place so cachers actions follow them, wouldn't it be nice to leave someone a negative feedback if they 'lose' your trackable? Geocaching don't care (no reply from Jeremy), they'll gladly sell you more once they go missing I'm so disgusted, if I do geocache anymore, I won't touch the swag, or the trackables .... grrrr
  4. thanks for the info 2 years ... yikes
  5. There is only one bolt holding that one foot block in place, it just holds it against the actual backer, the post in the ground. So long as that spacer (that moves) is in place, in an impact situation, it will still serve its purpose. Those are loose anyway, only one bolt holds it in place, when you only have one 1" bolt, the member not in the ground is freewheel (can turn on bolt). See the nuts on the single bolt on the back of the members that are in the ground? I think it's clever, maybe dangerous a bit being on a roadside, but that's not really an issue, just not very kid friendly.
  6. dude, why? Were you thinking you were informing us? I like your enthusiasm, but copy and paste sessions are frowned upon, obviously
  7. My global bell was scooped up over a month ago ... few weeks went by, I emailed the few people that had gone to the new cache to ask if they saw my travel bugger. One wrote back that he had it, but hasn't had a chance to log it yet. Well, that was like 3 weeks ago (at least) and he still hasn't logged it. Nobody can be that busy, that they have time to punch in coords, drive to a chache, walk to the cache, but is too busy to log the bug find? Am I just being overly impatient, or what? This person is NO newb either, which makes me go If you want to know who it is, just PM me, if you can help or whatever. Any input is highly appreciated.
  8. Shouldn't need a card attached ... if you pick it up, look it up online to log it, there you should see it has a mission. If you can't complete the mission, put it back. As well, you can read about a bug before you ever take it by looking at the caches inventory, and reading about it there before you even get to the cache. I've grabbed bugs with no 'mission tag' ... and was able to help it along.
  9. you have your anologies mixed up...a Mac is a Ferrari compared to a Dull Taurus. Thanks for the laugh Next time your at a computer type store (best buy) look through all the games and look at their compatibility, then tell how compatible they are with "everything" Make the cache OP, maybe on the cache page, you could use part of it to instruct people on how to scan the drive first, to instill confidence in everyone with a laptop, not just the techies, may get you more finders/logs and help educate peeps at the same time
  10. LOL, you knew when you bought a Mac, that it was like taking a moped on the interstate. I hear their commercials daily, 'doesn't lock up', easy to use ..... what they dont tell you is how incompatible it is in the real world. Why not ebay it and buy a real one. Mac
  11. I like finding things I can use, which is rare really. I put in things that others can use, usually things I picked up at a rummage sale, and they didn't sell on eAuction. Antiques, collectibles etc etc that I picked up cause I thought they were neat, but nobody wanted to buy 'em. I have a bunch of that ,,, eh-hem,,,, stuff. What would be neat, is to have kiddy caches, and adult caches. What might you find in an adult cache? Little bottles of booze, nudy playing cards, fireworks, pocket knives (I have a bunch of), etc etc etc This will never happen though, because they have to have stuff in them that are kid friendly, in case a kid stumbles upon it.
  12. It is important to mark the exterior of the container, then if the authorities get called, they can see with binocs what it is (if there is writing on it, its not a bomb, even if they dont know a geocache)
  13. awwww, we made him feel stupid because he over reacted, so he goes to name calling ,,, real professional I encourage all to seek permission, but in public parks and places, it's just that, public.
  14. THAT is too cool- That is kewl, but not that odd really. That is a falcon I think, not a hawk. Not correcting you just showing you Some urban areas try to get them to nest within the city on tall buildings to curb the pigeon problems, falcons love pigeons to munch. Where I live, we tried implementing them, but the habitat wasn't right. I remember when I lived downtown, laying on the couch, gazing out the window, this flock of pigeons was flying past, then BAM a falcon swoops in and snagged one, feathers everywhere .... I was like VERY cool. So, I'm guessing the problem of pigeons vs falcon is swaying the other way where you saw this one, now there are more falcons than pigeons, so the falcon has to look for other food ... but ... pizza? As to the topic of this thread, there's a cache I can't find near me, and I found a lake that I had never seen before, up in the bluffs where you sure didn't expect to see it. It's stocked with panfish, bass and trout! I'll be fishing it in '06 The coordinates are N 43° 36.803 W 091° 00.642 you can find that in google earth easy enough ( I think ). I've found many things that I would have never seen if there wasn't a cache there. Things we drive past every day and glance past sort of thing. Caching makes you stop and smell the roses
  15. So, reckon how could I hide a 9 yard DUMPSTER? Lotsa bucket caches
  16. Click here to see the gallery of items I put in my bucket. The items are still there, it was just published, I even have a white jeep travel bug in there (not in pix). Most of these items are things I picked up around the house I don't use, and things I ran on ebay that were duds, but still too valuable to toss. Things don't have to be from the store, and you don't need to go broke filling it, it's actually a cool way to clean house to me LOL
  17. LOL, they probably think ALL caches have high value ,,, wish I could see their face when they open their first cache and see nothing but golf balls and goofy stuff.
  18. Click here to see why you NEED to clearly mark the exterior of the cache!!!!
  19. uh things have evolved a bit since cache 1
  20. I did some reading on the web about the best way to paint and place and here is what I have. I started out bleaching it out so there are no smells to it. Then used 100 grit sand paper to sand every smooth surface so the paint will stick and not chip off in time. After sanding, I used rubbing alcohol and papertowl, and went over the whole thing again to get rid of any oil from my hands that may prevent the paint from sticking. Then I knew I was going to be putting it in woodlands, so camoed it to match ($3 worth of spray paint). Where I wound up placing it, with the matt black finish, and green accents, it blends right into the natural depression in the woods, and blends greatly with the surrounding moss on rocks. The only thing to be concerned about is finding the right spot, I built up a bunch of logs and branches, looks a little unnatural, but it is under a fallen tree, and could look like the buildup that busted off the tree, *shrug* Anyway, hope that helps in your efforts.
  21. I agree Groundspeak should take this more serious, if people stop buying those metal tags, that would be a big loss in revenue. I purchased a set, my first, and they are still in plastic, why? Because soon the format of them will change and these will be collectable, could explain the missing ones a bit. I plan on buying more of the old format soon, just for investment ... after the new ones come into play, the ones I have in plastic will go on ebay. The first geocoin that passed through my hands, I looked into it. Where had it been, where did they want it to go. Secondly, I wondered how much they were to buy about $5, that same 2005 coin was selling on ebay for $20 ... I would not be surprised to see it go missing. Hopefully the sweet picture of the owner of it with it, will hold some pull with could-be spoilers that would keep it (owner is a 8-yo girl). These should be treated like personal property, and if you know who took it and has it, you should be able to call their local police and file a report. It's yours, you can prove it, you have the other matching one! Until people realize we take it serious, they will continue to collect and auction off our goods I do want to send my little buddah statue to Taiwan to meet some actual monks. Before I send it out, I am going to ugly it up ,,, it already has a busted piece out of it, then will drill a few holes in it... as well, will bend the tag a bit, drill it, and hopefully it will be ugly enough nobody will want to keep it to sell one day. Team Snorkasaurus, Great idea!
  22. well, the timing may have been there, but I think all of us helped. We all get their stamped out letter after reporting something, within that email they clearly state they can't tell you what actions they're going to take, but thanks. He did violate more than just the link usage ... you can't slander a group/someone .......... by saying false things ......... among the basic purpose of the auction, which was offering something of value, not a mystery.
  23. I read through google earth / geocaching FAQs, and they are adding better resolution of more areas on a daily basis, theres a lot out there. Chicago and NY are highly detailed, must be where they started. I was browsing around the globe for caches the other day after d/l it, and found some interesting virtual caches out in the ocean, historical marks. Very interesting. I also found areas that should/could have a cache, and there is none for miles, excellent for finding areas to place 'em. It's awesome! Even cooler, it's free
