  1. Did you print them or draw them by hand? They look fantastic. Shrinky-dink material seems awesomely fun. Since it is printable shrink plastic, I assume it's printed. Mike, which brand did you get? They look great! The poker chip design looks too thin though - a matter of expectation, I guess, since we're used to what poker chips look like. Thanks! I believe the brand was called Grafix. I picked it up at Hobby Lobby. I'm really happy with the way they turn out Yes, the poker chip is thinner than you'd expect a regular chip to be and it's single sided (you can print on both sides but lining it up would be nearly impossible). Also, I figured out last night that inkjet ink is water-based and it will leach off when it gets wet. I'm going to look for some spray sealer. Mike
  2. I was inspired by the shrink art idea so I went out and bought some printable shrink plastic, created some designs, and made some signature items. It was that simple! I think they look pretty good! Any comments? Added this second pic with a quarter for size reference. -Mike
  3. Uhoh. Doesn't work w/o flash? That sucks for the mobile users. I guess I'll have to look at it later. That is, if I remember later. Too bad I can't just look now w/o flash.
  4. I very rarely post on the forums but I read them all the time. This topic made me go back and search out our first log. I'll probably never forget that first cache. None of us had ever seen an ammo can before and it took us a bit to figure out how to open it. Here's the log: "Our first find ever! We got a Garmin eTrex H today and immediately went home to find some caches in our area. We grabbed three coordinates and headed out. Sundown, Connor, Nate, and I are having a ball. We found two today within 1 mile of our house. There are several more but we were getting cold and it was getting late. Thanks for upgrading this cache to an ammo box. It was fun for our first find. We didn't realize that we needed to bring something to add to the cache so we didn't take anything either. Nate says we're coming back to give and take."
  5. I'm surprised no one has mentioned the possibility that the cache is buried. I know that is against the current rules but I believe the original stash was buried so nothing could be more "old school". Just a thought.
  6. The eTrex H, along with my car GPS, is all I've ever used and we're over 250 finds now. We love our eTrex H because it's so simple. We purchased the cable off of eBay so that we could upload caches. I'd say the cable is almost a necessity because it's a real pain in the neck to punch in the coords. One word of caution: if you purchase the serial cable then you must purchase a serial-to-USB adapter. The adapter that I purchased doesn't come with drivers for Windows 7 so I have to use my old Windows 98 laptop to do my uploading. Just make sure that your cable/adapter supports your O/S.
  7. My familiy and I have been Geocaching for a while using a Garmin eTrex H. For strictly Geocaching, the eTrex H does everything we want it to do. However, soon we're taking a trip to Brooklyn, NY and we'd really like a GPS that does turn-by-turn directions. I'm trying to decide what GPS unit to purchase. Is there a relatively low cost hand-held GPS that also will do street navigation? Should I just get a car-type GPS unit for road trips and continue using the eTrex H for cachine? Thanks in advance for any help that anyone can provide. -Mike
