  1. My favorite is the 50 cal ammo can. It will hold a lot of stuff and will also hold up to years of exposure to the elements. I have over 25 caches that have been out for 2 years and still are in good shape.
  2. In the last 2 years here in Indiana we have gone from 188 caches in Dec. 2001 to close to 1500 caches. It has been a lot of fun watching this game grow here in Indiana. I am thankful for better health and a fantastic hobby. I have met a lot of people during the last year and I have yet to meet a bad Geocacher. They all have a positive outlook and are from all walks of life. Thanks to all of you for the last year of caching. I hope each of you has a fantastic time caching in the new year that is just around the corner. Happy Thanksgiving to all. And I hope everyone has a really good Christmas and a Happy New Year. 3. It is good having the forums back on line.
  4. I would say that your cache is not very interesting or unusual. I just wish I could see your page and then I might be able to tell you what is wrong, A pickup truck is not something I would drive to see except if it was a cache. And that seems to be the problem from what little information I can get from this posting. It has been really hard to get a virtual cache approved for close to a year now. And I think it will get harder before it get easier. Good Luck. Cache On! 5. I have been talking with the Indiana DNR and we have come to the conclusion that they do not wish to make a policy. They have asked that Indiana cachers talk to the property manager before placing a cache but that has not been done except for a few caches in northern Indiana. They also asked that we not place caches in Nature preserves that are managed by the DNR or any other preserves for that matter. If you have any questions go to the IN-GEO web site and a lot of the answers will be there in the forums and articles. Cache On! Indy Diver
  6. India a will be represented as well. I hope toe see some old friends there as well as make some new ones. Cache On! Indy Diver
  7. I have been placing signature items for about 18 months now and I feel that they are not a trade item. They can be taken by anyone that would like to have it, and I do not place it in exchange for another item. I trade if the need arises and also leave a signature item. Normally I do not trade items anymore and I just place a signature item in the cache along with my log entry.
  8. Hey Indy Diver, if I'm free whant to team up to get this cache? If you get lost while geocaching, don't worry. Someone else will get lost while geocaching and find you. I will let you know when it gets closer to the vacation and maybe we can arrange this. I have 2 or more other people that I will be traveling with so it kind of falls with them to decide to make a side trip to WV for this cache. Cache On! Indy Diver
  9. After reading this thread and having direct knowledge of the caches being discussed here I just want to point out a few things for consideration. These private diving lakes have a lot of expenses (Insurance being the biggest). This is perhaps the cheapest scuba lake I have found to date. You do not have to pay for a Dive Boat, Dive Master fees, and all the other things that are involved in Scuba Diving. In the placement of our Scuba Cache they do not charge for the privilege of caching but for Diving. And any one that wishes to do this cache would know that before they ever went out to try and find it. I have a regular cache in the same site as the Hidden Paradise Cache and they do not charge the people to come onto their property to find this cache. It is for the diving only. Sure they have to make money or they would not be able to operate the dive site. This cache is not there to bring in customers but to give the Diving cachers a place to come and mix the two hobbies. I have received a lot of email from Cachers all over the US that are divers and want to know of other scuba caches that they can do while on vacation. I think that the diving community knows that it will cost them before they start to go and find the cache. Diving cost money no matter where you dive. We spend at least $1000 to buy are equipment and pay for our training and would like to be able to join are other hobbies and get a double bang for our buck. I like diving and I like caching. I would possibly do this new cache if it was approved and I am sure that other cachers/divers would as well. A $20.00 fee is nothing to the diver that would do this cache. And they could still do several dives for there money. To me the challenge would be doing this cache as a night dive and then a night cache. We know it will cost before we even get out the door. 12. I just received an email from Doug and he is very glad you are helping out with the cache. I did the same thing with the Hoosier Home cache he put out on the same trip as this cache. I just wish I could join you in the trip but I will not be near the area until the first weekend of October. Have fun and I hope maybe I can do this cache on me return from my Georgia caching trip. I kook forward to reading all the logs once you get it done. Cache On! Indy Diver
  13. I use a Garmin E-Trex Vista and a Garmin GPS 12XL.The 12XLK Jas a better signal under the canopy qith an exturnal antenna. I also have the MapSource software and use a laptop in the truck with me at all times. This make it easier to drive to the cache and have the roads along with the tracking mode turned on. This way you can see where you are and where you are going. I use the topo version of MapSource and this way I also get a good idea of the topography in the area of the cache. You can download all the waypoints from you gps into the software and then just drive to them. If you have any other questions feel free to email me through my Geocaching profile. I hope you have as much fun as the rest of us are having. Cache On! Indy Diver
  14. I just thought that those of you that have not seen this page might be interested for next weekend. It will be a fun event for everyone and a chance to meet some really fine cachers. Please come and represent Indiana. Here is the page http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=65643 And as always Cache On! 15. I have been hearing roomers about other states and we are going to discuses approaching the DNR very soon. The general opinion is that we need to act sooner than planed. Let me know what you think. Cache On! Indy Diver
  16. Sunday is the first meeting of the Indiana Geocaching Association and it looks like we are going to have a large turnout over 75 at last count. Thanks to everyone that signed up. Cache On! Indy Diver
  17. Just a quick note to say thanks for all the kind words of encouragement. Cache On! Indy Diver
  18. I have to agree with you about local and county park boards should be taken care of on a local basis. The thing I am most concerned about is the State Parks and the Nature Preserves, which are under control of the DNR. I think that contact with the DNR should be done from here in Indy and that it should be directed thru the Outdoors Recreation department. I think these steps should be addressed this way because the local park rangers look at a cache as trash or abandoned material. We all know that they are maintained and taken care of with each visit. Now that almost every State Park has a cache in it if not all of them it is time to consider. I am thinking of the state of Tennessee who has a really good network going with that States DNR. I have been getting advice from them on how to go about contacting the DNR and what approach to use on them. The main thing is to go thru the Outdoor Recreation department. They can set a policy for the entire state and control it from there. This takes the local park rangers out of the picture, as far and getting approval except for where the cache is placed has to be approved at the park level. What I do not want to see happen is a ranger stumbles on to a cache and with that discovery all caching gets banned in all parks. I can see once contact has been made that some caches might have to be relocated or removed. That would be OK, as long cachers cooperate with them. Keep the suggestions coming. Cache On! Indy Diver
  19. Indiana has to get a state organization started so we can work with different departments at both county and state levels. We do not want to see what happened in the east happen here. Please post your ideas and suggestions here or e-mail me at indydiver@comcast.net. Cache On! Indy Diver
  20. You can't go untill your PDA has charged up and you have uploaded all of your unfound cache sheets to it.
  21. I want to take the opportunity to wish the Geocaching staff and community a very Happy Holiday season. Geocaching has done so much for me this past year. Thanks everyone have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year Indy Diver
  22. I place both types of caches. When placing a cache I put it in areas that ether I wish to have people come and have a look around or hike a trail. In traveling around the state in Indiana I have found several places for virtual caches that would not let me place a regular cache. I have then had people contact me about placing a Micro cache at the same place. (I say yes) As stated above 2 caches are better than one. Indiana’s longest trail (58 Miles) the Knobstone had several caches on it. I then placed 9 more caches on the trail to draw more people to the area. I feel that the more caches in an area the better chances you have of drawing more people. I do think that the first cache in an area has the right to say no when asked to have another cache placed in the same spot. I have never said no to anyone and would hope that no one else would say no. Cache On! Indy Diver
  23. I have a Handspring Visor and it has 8 Meg of memory. I use three different queries and load the all at the same time. (Over 1400 cache pages) I also load national news since I hate network TV, this is my only source of news except the radio when driving my truck. It has a color screen and cost $185 right now at the right place. You can search the Internet. By the way this was a factory-reconditioned unit. This unit comes with a rechargeable battery and every thing you need to use it for cache pages. I give it a 4 star rating. Cache On! Indy Diver
  24. This cache is not underwater but you have to Scuba dive to find the location of the cache. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=33401
