We are planning a geocaching trip too. It is going to be our first so we'll tell you after the trip how it was. Here is what I did in preparation (I have no laptop and no TOPO software.):
1. I printed out about 100 caches along our way. I tried to have them evenly distributed along the route with a couple more at places where we plan to spend the night. If there was an overload of caches, I read the logs and picked those that seemed A: most interesting and B: easiest to find.
2. I printed a map page for each cache and then got large AAA maps of the area and marked all caches in the map.
3. I raided the local Dollar Tree store and also stacked up on batteries and films.
We'll be leaving in two weeks and will let you know how it was.
