  1. what does TBIES mean? something about tall buildings?
  2. Thanks very much for all your help postings.
  3. What is the easiest way to find caches that I have not yet found AND those caches also not found by another friend ? Can this be extended to more than one friend ?
  4. For each state as a region, I can filter by cache type, diff/terrain level, not found by me, etc. But I can't easily find a way to filter by "last found date" I really don't want to look for caches that have not been found for 10 years or more !! Preferably a filter for "found in the past year" Any suggestions ?
  5. Thanks for your quick reply ! All is well now after I rebooted my computer.
  6. Where can I find all the info that used to be available on cacherstats.com ? Has that website been taken over by someone else ?
  7. Thanks so much, Keystone, this suggestion works like a charm ! albuquerquebill
  8. What is the easiest way to compile a list of mega-events worldwide ? Most searches include All types of events, but I want a list of ONLY mega-events. Can this be done with Pocket Queries? I have GSAK and could filter a longer list which would contain other "events"- e.g CITO, but would prefer to have a list of mega-events that I can plot on a PC.
  9. I am wondering about the most efficient way of using pocket queries or GSAK of compiling a list of geocaches between two radii. The example I am working on presently is a complete list of all geocaches between 25 and 50 miles from my home coordinates (have found most caches less than 25 miles from there). I need a geocaching app or GSAK app that can display a list of all geocaches between 2 radii only - have too many already found between 0 and 25 miles from home !
  10. I would like to know the current easiest method to obtain a list of unfound caches in a specified area for a group of 2 or more people. Is there a macro or PQ that can accomplish this task ? Perhaps the new API with Groundspeak has made this simpler ! Can I do this by myself, or do I have to combine somehow individual PQs from each cacher in the group ?
  11. I tried clearing everything in Firefox - cookies, cache, etc. Now it works perfectly ! Thanks very much for the suggestion. I wonder how often I should do this ?
  12. I have never seen anything like that before. But it would sure help if you posted some more information. What operating system, what browser, what, if anything, are you aware of that you changed recently? I have an HP Pavilion Celeron ® CPU 2.936 GHz with 504 MB of RAM. I have the problem using Firefox 3.6.6, but it seems to work find with IE8.0.6001. So it appears to be a browser problem. At least now with IE, I have been able to transfer my PQ to GSAK !! Thanks for your help. That narrows it down considerably! Are you running Firefox with any add-ons? Try disabling them one by one, starting with the most recently installed (or updated) if you can remember that. I have no trouble with the geocaching.com website using Google Chrome as a browser. Something very fishy is going on with Firefox !!

Makes no difference ! I uninstalled Firefox and then downloaded it again - still have all the geocaching.com pages flash for a brief second and then start spinning their wheels again. All other web domains seem to be working normally. I am totally perplexed !

  15. Something funny just started today. When I go to geocaching.com - either main page, my profile, etc. the page flashes for one or two seconds, then disappears, and then the blank page remains and keeps trying to load. But it never does - just keeps spinning its wheels. Refreshing the page does no good. Shutting down the computer and relaunching does not help. Any suggestions ?
  16. I no longer receive ANY emails from geocaching.com although I am a Premium member. I have been out of the country for a month and received NO email notifications of findings of my caches by other geocachers and no pocket query results during that time. Nothing from other sites has been blocked. Several messages posted on individual geocache pages by cachers who attempted to email me say that their emails to me have been blocked. As far as I know, I have not changed any of the spam settings for email. I use Firefox and Windows XP. Please help !!!
  17. Don't feel alone, mine is doing the same thing. It takes a hard push straight down to turn it on. Turning it off is also as difficult. I haven't started using a pen tip yet but thanks for that workaround, I am sure it is coming. Both the USB port cover and the other rubber cover used for plugging into a cigarette lighter are in great shape after about 13 months of fairly heavy use. But the power on/off button remains a problem for me and , unfortunately is outside of the one year warranty. I haven't yet tried to call Garmin and ask them about a cheaper method of fixing the power button -- don't want to pay the $150 minimum charge ! Good news ! I sent my 60CS to Garmin after phoning them and telling them that the warranty had expired. They put it back on warranty, sent me a different brand new GPSr at no cost. Nice service !
  18. Instead of quoting my musings from above, it appears that previously I had set GSAK to be the default program to open ALL .zip files in the Folder Options section of My Computer. This is not a very good idea since there are many other zip files that should NOT be opened by GSAK. The attachment from the PQ appearing in my email doesn't exist as a file until I save it somewhere. I guess that is the reason I have been getting the error I mentioned before. It had appeared to me from the discussions that I could simply drag and drop the .zip attachment from my email to the GSAK icon. But apparently not ! Still not sure if this is only a problem with XP !?
  19. I had a similar problem early on that required me to save the zip file first. I have a hunch that it was an update that 'fixed it'. But I also noted a difference in operation in HOW you try to load the file. First, I use MS Outlook for my mail - and XP. Now, I used to OPEN the e-mail but it would not open GSA when I tried to load the file (hence the save operation) . But I found that if I just click the Paper Clip icon on the right and double click the pop up for the zip it worked just fine. But now I find that it works OK when I open the e-mail too - this is why I think it may have been a new version that made that work for me. My point here is that your problem MAY be in just how you are trying to load it. What is your mail program? What about your Windows updates? Are they recent? Are you using SP1 or SP2? Could be a lot of different things going on here but I don't think it is your settings in GSAK. I don't try to drag and drop - I just double click the zip file. I am using Windows XP SP2, Mozilla Thunderbird for email, and GSAK 6.02 . So I should have installed all the latest updates. It must be a setting somewhere !
  20. I have recently upgraded my system with a new computer running Windows XP (had 98 before and no problems with GSAK). Now when I run a PQ and receive the zip file in an email, I seem to have to save it first to my desktop and THEN drag and drop onto GSAK. When I drag and drop the attached file directly (i.e. without saving first), then I get the open dialog box with the following file name C:\DOCUME~1\HP_OWNER\LOCALS~1\184439.zip which produces an Error: There are no matching files to load. Import aborted. Are some of my settings wrong in the email program or in the XP setup ?
  21. Yes, a hearty congratulations. The first 100 is the toughest ! After that, it just seems to escalate faster and faster. I have many fond memories of geocaching in Turkey, and especially the chance to meet Darsantre in person near Assos. We now are joint owners of a cache in Bozburun, an idyllic spot that gets very few visitors and yet is only a very short distance from the isle of Rhodes.
  22. Don't feel alone, mine is doing the same thing. It takes a hard push straight down to turn it on. Turning it off is also as difficult. I haven't started using a pen tip yet but thanks for that workaround, I am sure it is coming. A co-worker just got his GPSmap 60 today, so I decided to mess with it since I'm looking at buying one too. I think the 60CS has the same buttons and chassis so my concerns can be addressed here. I noticed the power button issue. I definitely see how it may wear out after a lot of use. But another equally concerning thing for me was the foam rubber that covers the USB port. Popping it on and off every time you up/download coordinates could wear or tear the foam. At least it looks like they're replaceable. Have these covers been staying on OK after extended use? Both the USB port cover and the other rubber cover used for plugging into a cigarette lighter are in great shape after about 13 months of fairly heavy use. But the power on/off button remains a problem for me and , unfortunately is outside of the one year warranty. I haven't yet tried to call Garmin and ask them about a cheaper method of fixing the power button -- don't want to pay the $150 minimum charge !
  23. The rubber power button on my 60CS is wearing out from so much use. It is very difficult now using only a finger either to turn the unit on or even tougher to turn it off. I often have to use the tip of a ballpoint or pencil which is quite tiresome. Any suggestions ? Would this be covered by the warranty ?
  24. I have a long list of GPS data that I would like to import into GSAK from a .txt file. This file only contains latitude, longitude, and a name (6 characters long). Here is how a bit of it looks : 35.26285,-106.45042,AGSNCR 35.29148,-106.44107,AGSTH 35.28485,-106.44383,AGSWP1 35.28210,-106.44462,AGSWP2 These are all 35 degrees North and 106 degrees West. I would like to retain the name given in the 3rd field in each line and create a waypoint for each of these. Is there a simple way to read in all this data into GSAK without using another software program ?
  25. I don't quite understand this. Why would it not give you the most current logs? That is, what is your basis for saying the most current logs are not included witht he GPX file generated by this PQ? Sorry, my mistake, Clyde. I was misled by two things. One was assuming that the "Last GPX" column prints out the present date of my latest PQ when you check the "Always Update" option upon loading. So when I sorted on that column, I got a whole bunch of old dates ! The other thing was failing to notice that archived and locationless caches do not get updated by the PQ. The logs for active "regular" caches were all OK and updated correctly except for those that had not been found or annotated since the previous PQ. No wonder you were confused by my question ! Thanks very much. Bill
