If there's an REI near you check with them. Some stores offer classes in GPS navigation that include geocaching.

Is there one brand that is better then the rest?
WolfTrekker replied to computermaster4's topic in GPS technology and devices
With the SiRF in the new 60 series I believe the accuracy isn't much of a factor anymore. 100% agree with briansnat's post as to pluses of a Garmin. I've recently introduced 3 people I work with to geocaching; 2 of them bought Garmins and are pretty happy with them. The other one got a Magellan meridian for christmas and says he's had a hard time navigating (the unit). The one experience I have had with a Magellan left me frustrated and wondering why someone made a unit so un user-friendly. Didn't mean this to be a bash, just my experience. Tried the Lowrance once, hated it I'd like to try out the new Delorme unit though.... -
I had the same issue with my 60csx when I first got it, only it was intermittant. Turned out to be a faulty SD card in mine. Just one more thing to think about

Oh, yeah, that's where the LEO = "Law Enforcement Officer" thing came from! Awful, awful story, but reading the online detectives' "investigation" was highly amusing. They were especially interested in the way toys and trinkets are used to lure children, which are codenamed "caches". I'd love to read that thread, anyone got a link?

It works! Thanks so much for the link, it was exactly what I was looking for. Now when i go on a 200 mile trip and realize I left the PDA at home I'm not totally at a loss!

Awsome info guys and thanks. I guess my search wasn't thorough enough but I appreciate your help.

Sorry if this isn't in the correct forum but it seemd the logical place to start. I've searched and searched but can't seem to find anything on the forums, so I'll appeal to you all for some insight. When trying to access GC.com from my mobile phone, I can log in and navigate around fine until I try to find a cache. Then I keep getting a message saying that there is "no plug-in present to open the file". I'm assuming I need to download something but I can't find anything related on Sprint's website and so far haven't found anything here either. Any ideas would be much appreciated. BTW I've got a Sanyo MM7400 And how come I can't edit my own topic to fix my spelling?

Here's The Lazy Dog (VanGogh) waiting dutifully for me to finish up with the cache and get a move on!

ALL caching is an adventure, but he's got a point. Am I going to need shots for this?

You mean like this guy?

A_Friend_Of_Dorothy has just informed me that we will be making a trip to grab this cache, so why not go with other cacher's? Sounds like the OP's group could get pretty big, perhaps we'll need our own plane!

Love the graphs and tables. Can't say enough about the county map. I'm just starting to play around with it but from what I see so far it looks great! Kudos for all the time and effort you must have put in to this and thanks! -
So whaddya think about how you get these co-ords?
WolfTrekker replied to Shifty's topic in General geocaching topics
I certainly don't mean this to be rude, but from your reply it doesn't seem as if you're willing to hear the very opinions you've asked for. It seems that most of us don't have a problem with it and are only offering up suggestions as how to make it less annoying (as it obviously is) to you. -

Trouble Loading Maps To 60csx

Just to let those who helped out know, I replaced the SD card and everything's working fine now. Thanks to everyone for the quick replies. Now to see if Garmin will will take care of the bad card... -
Trouble Loading Maps To 60csx
WolfTrekker replied to WolfTrekker's topic in GPS technology and devices
Thanks to all for the ideas. I won't be able to get another card for a week or so, but as soon as I do I'll let eveyone know how it turned out. I guess I expected a little better from a unit less than a month old . -
Ok guys and gals, I'm about ready to throw this thing out and go back to using my old Legend. I started having trouble with my maps "disapearing" on my 60csx. One minute they would be there, the next, only the marine basemap. I tried removing and re-installing the memory card and for the most part that seemed to fix it. But now, I've got no map on the unit and every time I try to re-load it, I get an error message saying the unit can't "receive packet data" and if the problem continues, to call tech support. I just tried it again and now I'm getting a NEW message "The gps is unable to program the requested memory region". I don't have a card reader, so can't tell if that's the probem, and won't be able to get any tech support until monday. So.... if anyone's got any ideas, it'd be much appreciated. By the way, it'll send waypoints and routes no problem.

I have to admit I'm a little suprised by the responses in regards to Delorme's software. I currently own Mapsource, Delorme, and Topo!, and hands down prefer Delorme. It's MUCH easier to use than Mapsource, I can draw just about anything with it, in any color, transparency, width, etc. Topo! is great if you need a real topo map, but tomm2 is correct in the statement regarding it's difficulty in transferring data to Pocket Topo!. I truly have no trouble whatsoever in regards to the interface (Delorme)....in fact, I believe it beats Mapsource hands down! The bottom line, is that just like asking a mechanic which oil he/she prefers, asking a geocacher which mapping software he/she prefers will likely get you as many different answers as there are people you ask! My 2 cents...try them out! See which one YOU prefer and go with it.
