  1. I live (relatively) close to the border crossings in Niagara Falls. Just so you're aware, border crossings can be a total nightmare, especially heading in. Expect to wait, often well over an hour on weekends, just to get to the crossing. The Queenston-Lewiston Bridge is notoriously bad. You can check wait times here. EDIT: When you're talking to the border guard, make sure you talk in terms they understand. Don't mention geocaching - just that you're going hiking or to visit the Falls.
  2. I'm going to recommend the UTG Tactical Bag. Less than 30 bucks on Amazon and will hold everything you need.
  3. My wife's cousin was talking about geocaching at Christmas in '09. We were interested, her moreso than myself. A few months later in March my wife told me she had been saving an iTunes gift card to try out geocaching on her iPhone once spring hit. On March 24th we found our first few caches, and that was it for us; we were hooked. I know it doesn't seem like a great number, but I'm closing in on 200.
  4. Can't recommend that bag strong enough. It's just about perfect as a caching bag.
  5. Try in store -> Buy online -> Save a ton of money
  6. Amazon is selling brand new 60CSx's for $199.99 shipped. So $360 is atrocious.
  7. I just logged into my never used yahoo mail account because I thought for sure you had to be missing something. Sure enough, yahoo mail is ANCIENT regarding the services they offer. There is indeed no way to do this. That blows my mind.
  8. Does this work with yahoo mail too? Thanks It should. You just have to find a way to make a filter or rule that will forward anything with a subject line that contains "[GEO] Notify" to an e-mail address. I've never played around with Yahoo's mail, but this is pretty basic functionality. Also, switch to gmail
  9. You need to be a premium member. If you are, go here: http://www.geocaching.com/notify/default.aspx Create a new notification. Name it (something like: New Listing [Traditional]). Select the cache type you want to be notified about, then select publish from the checkboxes. Your home coordinates should already be filled in if you have entered them before. Set your distance (default is 10, I do 25). To have it texted to you, there are a few ways. You can set the next field, the Send To:, to your phone's email. Check here: http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/email-to-sms/ to see what your carriers is. I have AT&T, so I (used to) have mine sent to 1234567890@mms.att.net I changed to a better way, though. I now have it sent to my normal e-mail, which is through gmail, and set up a filter for gmail to forward anything with "[GEO] Notify" in the subject line to my phone's email address. This makes it so I save a copy in my gmail and get it on my phone. I know this is confusing so if you have any Q's just ask.
  10. Needs Maintenance - my favorite of all the logs.
  11. Amazon has the Garmin 60csx for $199.99 right now.
  12. http://www.geocaching.com/track/faq.aspx Basically, purchase a travel bug dog tag, attach it to an item, give it a goal, and drop it in a cache. You can buy them from Groundspeak here: http://shop.Groundspeak.com/productDetail.cfm?CategoryID=22&ProductID=23
  13. As for puzzle caches, I'm not very good at them as well. Some are easier for me than others, so I stick to those most of the time. For difficult ones, the old cliche "two heads are better than one" rings true: ask a co-worker, relative, or caching buddy to help you out! And as a hint, that cache is a QR code.
