We are very active cache owners and can tell you that the help is usually gladly accepted! We have become known for adopting struggling caches in our area and helping to improve and maintain as many as we can to keep things up and running for others to find. When out hunting ourselves, we keep a basic "cache medic kit" in the backpack and larger one in the suv with extra logs, baggies, pens, and even some basic re-stock items. We're always happy to help because others have helped us! If it's major repair, we make an attempt to contact the owners if we will be in the area for a while, therwise we take care of what we can. For us we get alot of joy from the hunt, the game, and keeping things fresh for others to find!

First off, MY WIFE ROCKS! Came home today to the tune of "Hey honey...hooked you up." It's a great gift and will be here just in time for our trip from FL to PA later this week. I was wondering if anyone out there could give me a brief fill in on what I can expect with the new unit. I am upgrading from a Sportrak Pro (which has seen over 700 finds and know as "old reliable".) to a spanking new Explorist 600. I've been researching all evening online and in the forums and have learned alot but nothing works like true info from others. Any feedback is welcome! Thanks- g3geoblazers

Nice. We just ran into JasonD in Baton Rouge who met up with us on LS-87 cache. We're moving along nicely. Internet the whole way so far. 654.1 miles driven, 402 left to go! We've registered for the Event. We've planned our route. We've checked wireless coverage charts. We registered our AIM Name... Registered our AIM Name? That's right, AIM. For this trip we decided to try and stay connected the whole route there. We're hoping to talk to others who are doing the same along the way... or just other who want to keep us awake. NEFGA contingent building up: - 1143 miles each way (Fl to TX) for us! A good friend / fellow cacher to go along, Wireless broadband in the truck (he's an IT guy what do you expect) the vacation time is approved, permission slip from wife is signed, and I'll be darned if this wasn't my excuse to get her to agree to a new SUV in the next week. Reservations through reserveamerica.com were easy! $63.00 and we're all set for the weekend. It's all falling into place and we can't wait. We're planning a few "side jumps" to Georgia and Oaklahoma since the route takes us soooo close on the way it's hard to pass up the chance to grab two more state stats during the trip. GW3 was a great event and we can't wait for GW4!

Picked up a palm M515 for less than $50 with shipping on ebay- GSAK (free) and Cachemate ($8) and off you go. It works great and really makes things easier. I thought about more expensive / new models and have to say that if this one gets trashed in the field I'm not going to feel too bad! Already have all my waypoints and routes loaded in for the GW4 trip from Florida to Texas.........

Wow! what a quick response from everyone- Thanks so much for the input- checking ebay now. Of coarse the other member of the team is still laughing (right now as a matter of fact) because of his setup but what ya gonna do. One half of the team is using a mobile broadband hookup with a laptop in his truck-yes, he's an IT guy. It's great for when we're out hunting together and we can do some record runs. Unfortunately, it doesn't help me when we are apart! I'm looking into getting at least a new / used PDA so I can save some $$$ on all the ink I'm using (and my teacher wife is complaining about) So any suggestions from the peanut gallery as to which ones work best out there in the field would be great. Actually, here in Seattle, it is not on for a few more hours. We're just paying attention to this thread. High-fives for listening to us East-Coasties... Wait till you see it. After the first 20 minutes or so there isn't much there about caching. [ EDIT: Well, actually nothing really about caching itself...] At least they used a screenshot of the NEW geocaching.com front page. They pull up some page after that reading something on the screen that is unfamiliar to me... It was in a web browser but they removed the address so I have no idea what the heck that was... I was amused at the fact that when they showed that "map" that everything was so nicely spaced. They should have used a real, non-contrived looking map. That was a hella-nice looking topo map though... Joe G3 Geoblazers

We didn't actually get stopped by the police but had a VERY close call. We were looking for a cache in front of a 1 acre electrical substation in Jacksonville and I parked near the gate that enters the area. We walked out near the main road where the GPS led us. We spent 10-15 minutes checking trees, moving rocks, (the usual), etc looking and were starting to give up on that one for the day when a police cruiser pulled into the other entrance of the zone, backed his car in and proceeded to watch us as we loaded up and left. Rather close call. I saw those brochures at the front of this thread. Definitely going to have to carry those with us. Joe G3 Geoblazers
