I would say about 95% of the trackable items that I have found in caches have not had any kind of mission tag included with them. I love trackable items because I like to see where they have been and who has found them before me, so I usually pick them up when I find one in a cache. When I am traveling, I generally don't plan out exactly what caches I will find. I am not that tech-savvy, so I just download a bunch of caches into my GPS and go from there. I don't always have clues, info sheets, or a list of which caches may have TBs or coins in them. If I happen to find a traveler, I usually pick it up because I know I can give it some miles. This can sometimes be a problem though if it doesn't have a mission tag, because I may not be going in the same direction that the TBs wants to travel, but by the time I figure that out, it is usually too late. I did just get a TB that had been bagged and tagged by the Geopigs and I think they did an excellent job with it. There was a laminated tag attached to the TB. One side of the tag read in big letters: Congratulations you have find a trackable item and it also listed the name of the TB and a photo. The back of the laminated tag was a printout of the info page that appeared on the TBs home page. In small letters on the bottom of the tag it said Mission Card courtesy of the Geopigs. When the next person finds that TB in the cache, there is no doubt that it is a trackable TB and what its mission is.

I have seen people add a laminated card of the traveler's name and mission, which I think is a good thing if the original mission sheet was missing or in need of repair. I have not seen any TBs or coins with other things attached to them unless it was the goal of the TB to pick up certain items while it travels. I don't think other people should attach their "calling card" or other items to a TB they find without the owner's permission because it doesn't belong to them. If that person wants to set something travelling they should buy their own TB tag.

I have seen a cacher with several hides in an area relocated to another state, and when they move they archive all their listings because they no longer have the ability to maintain these caches. Except that many of these caches are simply archived from www.geocaching.com, and not physically removed from their hiding spots in the woods. I don't know how often this happens, but Walkin' Ed and myself took a trip into Harriman to physically remove two caches that had been archived but left in place because of this situation. It is possible that this cacher has other archived caches still in place. In this case a reviewer wouldn't be alerted to any problem since the cache were archived (and presumably) removed by the CO. On these caches, the owner did not mention that he was unable to retrieve the caches or that they were still in place, he simply archived the listings. I think it really needs to be up to the local cachers/groups to monitor the caches in their area, and to alert a reviewer if their in a problem with a listing or TB that they can't fix themselves. People move away, stop caching, etc, and leave behind caches that need to be taken care of in order to preserve the good name of geocachers and to prevent the negatives perceptions that we are leaving "geolitter" and that cachers are up to no good.

If you find a coin in a cache, chances are that it belongs to someone else and is an activated traveling coin that is meant to move from cache to cache. (like a travel bug) Some coins have very small tracking numbers or the tracking number could be on the edge of the coin, so look closely to find out if it is a trackable coin. Once you find the tracking number you can look up the coin's mission and log the coin under trackables on geocaching.com. IF the coin does happen to be nontrackable (no tracking number and no text that reads track at geocaching.com) then it is considered to be swag and can be kept but you should trade even or up for it.

Congrats RSG on a beautiful coin! I was lucky enough to find on at the MWGB this summer. I was there when Vanelle found her coin at GCF and it was very cool to see how excited she got! Don't you just love a good mystery?

Right now the Spooky Halloween Mission is going on and there are sign ups now for the Santa's Mission The missions have an organizer and to participate, you would send an email to the organizer with your name and address and if you are willing to send a mission outside of your country. The organizer then randomly assigns each participant another person's name. To participate in the mission, you send your assigned person a package. Most missions require you to send 2 unactivated geocoins at the very least. Many people send more than 2 coins, and they send candy and goodies to go along with the theme of the mission (ex. Halloween, Christmas) In return, someone will send you a package with at least 2 coins and possibly other goodies as well. So everyone participating is sending out a package and receiving a package from someone else. You do not know in advance who is sending the package, or know what coins they will be sending you, and some senders choose to remain anonymous. A lot of people will try to send a coin that is on their mission's seeking list if they have a list, but it is not required.

I got my Halloween Mission today from RSG, and it was amazing!! And I also got my custom license plates in the mail today!!

MY MISSION ARRIVED TODAY!! All I can say is WOW!! Lara you really went all out!! Thank you so much! A giant box was delivered today, and inside was a big pile of spider web and plastic spiders, then mountains of candy, and then an adorable pumpkin bag. Inside the pumpkin there were 2 little towels with pumpkins on them, a cool ceramic treasure chest filled with sticky gooey eyeballs, 2 pairs of Halloween socks, a gigantic rubber spider, a black cat-shaped candle, and a Mexican ceramic sun face. And of course there were the coins!! The 4 coin set of the all season caching coins, the trick or treat bag from Oakcoins, a peep, and MWGB bear!! And a signal Halloween pin and the coolest clay frog sig item!! I love everything!! THANK YOU!!

Wow! tadpole379, those coin pictures are beautiful! Could you send me some info on where that feature is located? www.shutterfly.com You can upload as many pictures as you want to the site under your account, and organize them into online photo albums. One of the options is to create a Share Website, which is what I made using the pictures that I uploaded to my account album. The site also has options to order prints of pictures, and make stuff like calenders, and merchandise using your pictures, and it is an easy way to share pictures with friends.

Witch Parking Seems that this year's Halloween coins are starting to be revealed, so here is one more! The Witch Parking is trackable on gc.com, has a custom icon (the witch), and it GLOWS! The thread will be updated once there is more info on the sale date, prices, and actual coin pics! Fluttershy came up with the idea for this coin, and I did the artwork for it, so we will each have our own versions as well! I will be trading, but I can't speak for Fluttershy.
