  1. I really like it And I vote for polished gold!
  2. geocoincollection.com and cointracking.com have photos and available finishes of most coins listed in their databases, but this is not helpful unless you know the name of the coin. People in these forums are very knowledgable about coins, so if you posted a photo of the coin(s) you need to ID, there are people who could help you out.
  3. That butterfly coin is beautiful. I love the way it looks like stained glass... or a compass rose. What can you tell me about it, Dr. Neal? That is the Moustik Personal Coin, she is a cacher from Montreal, Canada.
  4. I was caching with a group after an event, and we were walking along a ridge line picking up some caches. The next cache, was down below the ridge. To get there we had to climb down a pretty steep hill/cliff. The cache was located a short way up from the bottom of the cliff. We found the cache and were sitting on rocks and passing the log around, but there area we were in was still pretty steep, so some of the group was further up on the hill. A small rock got dislodged from the hill, tumbled down, and landed squarely on my pinky finger. It was cold out and I was wearing gloves, so I didn't think too much of it at first beyond the initial ouch. After a few minutes the pain was getting worse and not better, so I figured I should take off the glove and look at it. I took off the glove, and the front of my finger was completely split open and pouring blood everywhere, and the back of the nail had popped off and tore through the skin. The fingernail eventually fell off completely after a few weeks, and I was worried that it wouldn't grow back. This happened in October of last year, and my nail has grown back completely, but I do still have a scar on the front of the finger where it split open.
  5. Here is AT Mouse with her Wishing Coin at the ASP Geobash.
  6. I have come across quite a few rattlers while hiking in Harriman and in the Ramapo Reservation areas. When I was a new cacher I had a close encounter with the biggest one I have seen since deep in Harriman near Waterboys now archived Water Tank cache. I now always hike with someone for the long trail hikes. This is a small one I saw on the Red Dot Trail in Harriman near Cats Elbow. I saw this one while hiking with Walkin Ed, also in Harriman near Silvermine.
  7. I will be driving down with Dhenninger.
  8. No email from you and I have nothing in my spam folder. Just got the confirmation email at 10:18!! Not sure if you resent it, but its a good thing my email didn't take that long to reach you ... lol Thanks Steph! I can't wait to see my turtles!!
  9. No email from you and I have nothing in my spam folder.
  10. I got my order email sent off within the first 20 seconds, but no love for me either. I haven't gotten an email saying I didn't get them, but I haven't gotten one saying I have, so I am assuming I didn't make it. I have hardly any traders left, so I will have to wait until the next batch goes up for sale.
  11. Open up the page for the coin. On the top right side of the page there is the trackable item options. On the bottom of the list there should be a pull down box that says mark item missing. Under the name of the coin, a text box will show up that says are you sure you want to mark this trackable item missing. Click yes, and it should be moved to an unknown location. If the coin turns up somewhere else, the person who has it can grab it and drop it into a cache.
  12. I was able to get in last night and "buy" the test item, but the store isn't loading this morning.
  13. The original geocoins were made as signature items to leave in caches, and they were non trackable personal coins. Eventually, since coins were being left in caches, the idea of adding tracking to them caught on so that their travels in caches could be watched. Now, the vast majority of coins are minted for sale. Every once in a while a coin is minted to only be left in caches, or only to be traded. Many people both buy and trade coins. Some people do sell coins on ebay that they have purchased from vendors or that they have traded for. Some people frown on selling other people's personal coins, especially if it was a coin that was originally only available for trade from the maker of the coin. Trade only personal coins, and Mystery Coins, coins that were minted with the intent to anonyously gift them to other cachers, are generally not sold, and people who do sell them often get called out for it here in the forums. The best way to start a coin collection is to buy coins that you like from vendors or even ebay (be careful). Buy an extra or two, keep one, and have the extras available for trade. This is a good way to get coins whose sale you may have missed or older coins. Most coins are traded one for one. There are some coins, mostly older coins that are considered hard to find, that will trade for more than one coin. Some people will not trade a trackable coin for a nontrackable coin, or micro sized coin for a regular coin. Don't be afraid to ask if you are unsure of a trade for a certain coin. There are a lot of personal coins available that were designed by or for a cacher or a team of cachers. Personal coins usually have the cachers name on it and the design is somehow based on that person-hobbies, likes, personality, etc. Other coins are purely commercial and may or may not have a geocaching theme. These coins are minted and sold by one of the coin vendors for profit. Welcome to the obsession
  14. I had one of my personal coins wirewrapped by 0R0B0RUS. I wear it to events and people can discover me. Tadpole's Puddle Jumper
  15. The green and gold Tree of Life coins came out really nice
  16. I have responded to a couple of trade offers. I still have a few left if anyone else is interested. Thanks! -tadpole379
  17. I have a few Team 9-er Silver Bullet Artist Edition coins for trade. The AE is Antique Copper. I am looking for anything from my seeking list here:Seeking List ,or make an offer. I haven't bought any coins in the past few months so I don't have a lot of the newest releases. I have an online album of all of the coins in my collection here: Tadpole379's Geocoin Collection There are some coins that I haven't posted there yet, but that will give a good idea of what I have already. If you are interested in trading, please send an email instead of a pm. Thanks! -tadpole379
  18. For me, being trackable or not has nothing to do with if I consider something to be a coin vs a sig item vs something else. There are plenty of coins that are not trackable on geocaching, but I consider them to be geocoins, and there are plenty of items that are trackable, but that I do not consider to be geocoins. To really be a signature item, the item should be something that is typically left in a cache by a particular cacher to become part a caches swag. If someone mints a coin with the intention of only leaving that coin in caches and not trading or selling it, then that coin is a signature item. By that definition, most geocoins, I would not consider to be signature items. I think if something is trackable, it can't be a signature item, because once it has tracking information it then becomes a form of travel bug which has a whole different set of rules and etiquette attached, and cannot be considered a swag or trade item. Non trackable but handmade and made of metal. Coins? I think so. Habercacher Geotiki Non trackable on geocaching.com and minted: Pathtags: I consider my pathtags to be part of my geocoin collection, but I also consider them to be a type of signature item since unlike the majority of geocoins, many people do leave pathtags in caches they find as a signature token. Clay or porcelain. Coins? I think so. Delft Klomp Four Spirit Trackable but not coins: GeoGems Travel Bugs Nontrackable Signature Items: Wooden Nickels: Poker Chips: Fimo Clay Tokens: Also, business cards, pins, personalized pencils, etc. I think if someone got a tracking number for a wooden nickel or a poker chip, I wouldn't consider it to be a geocoin. To me, it would no longer be a sig item, but would fall into the same category as TBs, geogems, and those trackable signal the frog statues.
  19. The Wishing coin is a nontrackable mystery coin. They seem to be numbered 1-200
  20. You can find coins in caches, but 99% of the time they are activated coins owned by someone else that are meant to travel from cache to cache and are not to be kept. If you want coins to keep you have to buy and/or trade for them.
  21. The Long Path (Turquiose Blazes) between Rockland Lake State Park and Nyack has a whole string of caches. The long path runs along the top of the NY palisades cliffs and there are lots of scenic views of the Hudson River and Rockland Lake. Depending on how much hiking you want to do, you can make a loop out of it. Start either at Rockland Lake state Park or Nyack Beach State Park and take the Long Path one direction and the river trail back the other direction. The river trail runs right alongside the Hudson River at the bottom of the cliffs. Hesiod Cache is the first cache on the Long Path that you would come to if you parked at Rockland Lake. (Don't park in the main lot, cause they sometimes charge for parking. Drive up the hill to the dead end street by the firehouse and park on the side of the road where the trail is.) There are also a bunch of park and grabs nearby the Nanuet Mall and Palisades Mall which are quick and easy if you are short on time. Have fun
  22. If you find a coin or a TB in a cache, it is generally owned by someone else and is meant to travel from cache to cache. It may have a specific goal (like get to CA) or it may just want to travel anywhere, so you should try to help its goal if you can. If you find a trackable in a cache, you can take it without leaving anything in return, just be sure to move it along to another cache within a few weeks. Many people do have large collections of coins, but these are coins that they purchased and chose not to release into a cache. It is never ok to take a coin from a cache and keep it, unless the coin has a note or some sort of instruction with it that it is a trade item and is meant to be kept. In this case (which is very rare to happen) it should be traded for evenly. Coins are worth about $10.
  23. NYGO 2007 back Here is the back of the NYGO 2007. If you look at my site, I have posted pictures of both the front and back of the 2007 and 2005 NYGO coins.
