  1. Yes, I saw the two watching it. Think I will msg/email the first person who sent it off after I have accomplished getting the TB to Singapore and maybe Malaysia.
  2. Thanks for the info. I looked up some threads on the tb and it's great that this one I have is still going strong after more than 7 years of travelling. My family has a history of diabetes, too. I would have liked the owner to know that the tb is finally getting closer to its goal -- it has never left North America. I would have liked to know "why Kuala Selangor" because that is such a small town. I looked it up and there is just one geocache placed there, somewhat precariously. Maybe I'll do a side trip there this April.
  3. Found this Unite for Diabetes TB and grabbed it. Its mission is to go to Kuala Selangor, Malaysia. I was curious to find out why it had this mission and who the owner was, but the owner turns out to be Unite for Diabetes with no contact of any sort. There are no logs of any kind. Anyone know anything about this group?
  4. I plugged the Garmin into the computer, and when I tried to drag the gwc file into the Wherigo folder in the Garmin it would not even stay. Double-clicking on the gwc file that is in the Downloads folder gives me no options other than to open with an application (which I don't want to do). I could not do a copy and paste either.
  5. Hi, I'm new to Wherigo, and one just popped up in town, so I tried to download the file without success. I could download it to my computer (Mac) easily enough, but uploading it to the Colorado 300 would not work. I tried to drag and drop it into the Wherigo folder with no luck. What did I not do? Thanks, mole60
  6. Okay, thanks! It's been a number of years since I went up there, but I will think geology if I get up there this summer.
  7. I would like to put in a word for a Singapore souvenir. There are several hundred caches on this small island city state and a very active and cohesive geocaching community. If Groundspeak is watching this thread and is receptive to suggestions on this topic, here's a vote for a Singapore souvenir. Also for many other Asian countries -- Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia.
  8. Thanks for your input. Will think about that when I'm up there on the mt. to see how this can be done.
  9. Thanks, Bon Echo. Yes, I am new to Waymarking. I am interested in a particular benchmark in my area, and I have looked at the map to check if it is there already. It is not. So, my plan is to hike to the spot (it's at the highest point in this parts), take a picture, and post with details on the Waymarking/Canadian Benchmark site. I am exploring various parts of the Waymarking site to see what the rules/requirements are like.
  10. I would like to add a Canadian benchmark to the Waymarking site. Can anyone tell me what the listing requirements are? Thanks.
  11. Hi, I know a place where there is a brass monumental marker. It marks the highest point around and is a control reference point for aerial photography used in surveying and mapping the area. The brass monument replaced an old canvas marker (bits of the old canvas can are still visible). Can anyone tell me if I can develop an Earthcache around this monument?
  12. Yes, the CO did offer me the FTF in her post on the cache page. Rather strange, but generous. I think she felt bad about my having taken the trouble to go in search of it and it being missing. Thanks to all the people who posted opinions on this matter. Really touches upon the philosophy of geocaching, why one does it. I was happy enough to log a DNF, but became tempted to get a smiley in another country when the CO suggested I could do that. Still mulling over this.
  13. Kind words, thanks. Will think about that. If I figure I will never be going back to Indonesia, will wait till someone logs a FTF on the cache and then log a Found It (with CO's permission) as it will register that I have cached in that country, and it's not a lie.
  14. Okay! Your responses came fast and unanimously. ;-) I had already logged a DNF, but the CO's note made me greedy ... like Gollum, I guess. The DNF will stay. Thanks, all.
  15. Hi, I'd like some geocaching etiquette here -- I looked for a cache and it wasn't there. CO checked a few weeks later and confirmed that it was missing. CO also wrote a note and said she would contact me to offer me the FTF prize, whatever that might be. Mighty nice of her, I say! But what I would like to do is log the cache, and I happen to be the FTF in that case. I cannot return to look for replaced cache as it is in Indonesia (and I was a tourist there). Can I log it? 16. Yes, I was confused when writing about it. Maps - Garmin folder. Caches - GPX. Thnks.
  17. OSM maps look promising. How do I download it to GPSr? When I downloaded a Singapore map recently, I did it onto an SD card (on my Colorado 300) making sure it was put in the GPX folder. But I could not check till I got to Singapore. Then when I went to Singapore I turned on the GPSr and miraculously (so it seemed to me because I'm not very techy) the caches that I had in my pocket query showed up in the map. Is it the same process? Mole60
  18. Hi, I am going to France later this year and hope to do a little bit of geocaching. I know I will fly into Paris and stay for 2-3 days. Then I will be going to the Dordogne district. Does anyone know if specific maps of France are necessary? I use a Colorado 300. Is there a website where there are free online maps I could download? Many thanks for your help, Mole60
  19. I like Facebook, and would have done a page for this, but other people are leery of FB, so I don't want to go this way. I think that emailing each and every one each time we want to get an event going is probably going to be the way. Tedious, but most effective. I might try starting a thread on the geocaching forum, where others can find the group and someone to contact if they wish. Thanks for your input.
  20. I think this is a good idea. I want a place where other geocachers can find us, that's why I thought if I could put it on the geocahing forum that would be handy. Will explore your suggestion. Thanks
  21. A friend and I organised a meet and greet event for our small community of geocachers. One result was that the geocachers felt it would be good to create a geocaching group, sort of informally, where we could chat and organise geocaching activities in our area. How do we create a forum page or group?
  22. I sent out a little blue car as a TB and it got lost. Only the tag kept travelling on for a while until a German geocacher and his daughter replaced it with another lovely blue car. I haven't heard of the TB for a while, but I hope it is still safely travelling. I set off another Tb with a cute keychain, and I invited geocachers to take the keychain and replace it with another one, whatever. It was a test to see how long it would last or if geocachers would do the trading. Unfortunately, the keychain got taken and I don't know what has happend to the TB tag. I put out TBs knowing that chances are very good that they will not survive. No angst that way!
  23. You bet, a lesson learned! Anyhow, thanks to you, I checked out ebay and am in the bid for one. Wish me luck! @ Reptilian Overlord - don't think he would like a gold one framed. Something about sentimental value -- it's got to look as close to the original as possible, paint chips included.
  24. YES! Exactly, but though not pristine, it was in much better shape. I had a feeling you in the UK would know what I meant. Wish it was in a slightly better shape. I would put in a bid. But hubby would not be happy with such a poorer model. Here's a picture. Hope I am not being too upitty in thinnking mine looks better. http://img.geocaching.com/track/large/3c68662b-2904-44be-b0c7-69fa2023730d.jpg
