  1. I don't do it just because you are not really "finding" the cache. You already know where it is. BUT, what I do is convince a fellow geocacher or two I work with to go to the site and get the bug. Then we do a cache together the next week where he drops it off and I pick it up.
  2. I've also done it, dropped off three bugs at once in W&O RR. Just post a note (not a find) that you did it.
  3. I ordered a pair on the 7th and got a notice today (the 9th) that they were shipped. I asked for two day delivery so I'll post shortly if they really arrive.
  4. I live closer to DC and am not aware of any specific VA group. I know Bigcall did a meeting and caching event in September of this year (2002). I'ld be interested but I'm going overseas next summer for two years.
  5. I cache with all the above. Like all the methods for different reasons. It isn't always about the destination, sometimes it's the journey.
  6. I have geocached on my bike but usually do it in the car. It depends on with whom I'm caching. Where are you located? If you're in the Northern VA area send me an email, maybe we can bike together on a cache this spring.

  8. Beast, A couple of the ones I listed I did in the manner you suggested. But then you have to bring up each cache page to see if it says it is on the AT (in may really be in a park near the AT but far enough off to not make it worthwhile) and/or bring up the TopoZone to see if it's on the AT. I was hoping people would just name then to make compiling the list easier.
  9. If you post a reply please name the caches so trips can be planned. Thanks.
  10. I like hiking the AT. Has anyone compiled a list of which caches might be on, or very close (.5 miles) off the AT? I know one in VA (Lean2Rock) and 4 in MD (Hoffa's Cache, The Truth, Blair Witch Cache and Tinkers Folly #1) and two in NJ (Normanock and Night at the Leanto). Anyone know of any others?
  11. I was up north (from VA) the weekend of Nov 22 and did a few caches in the Wharton State Park. Hence had the opportunity to hike part of the Batona Trail. This is one SUPER SUPER trail. Being from VA, we have 1/4 of the applachia here but this NJ trail is quite nice. I think overall it is well maintained, covers various types of terrain and is scenic. I would not mind participating in an event on this trail. Best time would be in the spring of 2003.
  12. Thanks to all repliers. I'm not familiar with the area and didn't realize it was hard to get to and that it may be snowed in shortly, or now. Guess the bug will have to wait until spring. And this was only the first cache it got to after it's release. May even attempt it myself this spring and drag along some other cachers, or at least move the bug on my own.
  13. My travel bug, TD:Phone Home has been in the Mt. Nebo Excursion cache in MD since late August . Can some one PLEASE retrieve and help get it on it's way. Thanks to all in advance.
  14. The Batona Trail crosses several roads. You can hike it in various lenghts and shuttle cars between. If you go to the Carranzza Memorial you can get three quick caches from there and hike part of the trail. You can do all that with less than a 5 mile hike. Or start at Batsto Village and hike out to three, or more, caches and hike back. I think you can do all that with only a 5 - 10 mile hike.
  15. I'm originally from the Philly area, now Northern VA, and still go up to visit family and hit a couple caches while I'm up there. I'm planning a hike in the Wharton Forest area on Nov 23rd. I would suggest a hike along the Batona Trail. It's 50.2 miles long, has some interesting sights (Batsto Village and the Carranza Monument) and there are already some caches along it.
  16. I live in Northern VA now but am originally fromPhilly. I go up "North" every now and then to visit family and usually do a cache or 4 while up there. Ridley Creek State Park is just near West Chester and has a couple caches. A couple in there are currently archived but I saw that someone had posted a find even after they were archived. I think the archiving has something to do with the current process of negotiating being conducted with DCNR who maintains the state parks. OK, other caches that are near West Chester, that I've done, and NOT in State Parks are Martin Park (hard to find the actual park but a nice hiking area), GeoCache, Eye of the Tiger (hidden by a friend of mine), and A Crum My Cache. You might also try Brandywine State Park in Delaware. Haven't done any there myself but looks interesting. Let us know your results.
  17. As posted in the other thread on this. I often TNLN. Part of the fun for me is the walk in the woods and the actual find of the cache. If the rule is you HAVE TO trade something than why do we have virtual caches? Where do I put my trade in a virtual or micro cache?

  20. For a cache in a state park in Florida where the coords had in dead center in the middle of the trail. "It's under a palm frond". Guess how many palms fronds are laying about in a Florida State Park. At least tell me to the right or left of the trail. Had to post this as a no find since I knew exactly where I was and where it should have been. BUT, a couple days later someone else found it.
  21. Sorry, I'll be geocaching in FL on the 14th . But do post some kind of results and info from the meeting.

  23. The problem with this is that someone after you, maybe even the same day, may really take the bug and put it in another cache. If that person makes his entry before you then when you make your entry that you found it and put it back it shows as being in the cache were you SAW it but it ain't there no mo'. And the cache where it really is will not show it nor will that cache have an entry that you took it. I say if you ain't going to move it don't log it.
  24. This may be a stupid question but I gotta ask anyway. I have a Garmin V and don't really use the MapSource software, just the basic mapping that was in the V. I'm going overseas soon, does the basic mapping cover points outside the US? If not, will other mapping software work or is this unit "keyed" to the U.S.? I think MapSource has some European maps don't they?
  25. I would be interested and work with a couple of other cachers who might want to get together some weekend morning.
