  1. such "fiascoes" happen every day, most people just don't come to the forums to discuss it, and they have nothing to do with driving other people away, well at least it shouldn't however i don't see how this qualifies as a "fiasco", the CO has not even made any comments here nor do we know any details of their reasons, so basically there is absolutely nothing that should/would influence anyone long time ago i got fed up with TD Bank and i moved to President's Choice, based just on that statement would you do the same?...afaik TD still has millions of costumers people have their own personal reasons for their actions and in the absence of specifics nobody has a right to judge them or accuse them that their actions are having an influence on other people's actions, at least not in this context we are all free to analyze the facts and make decisions for ourselves Yes, these fiascoes may seem frivolous (to me or you) however to the parties involved they are most certainly not. And they do leave an impression over time. The CO said "I give up on Geocaching.com. I may move this listing to a competitors site." on the cache page itself, the reason he's not here arguing is because he likely washed his hands of the whole thing (I can't say I blame him). The difference between your moving to President's Choice and someone moving to another caching site is huge. I have no stake in your leaving TD. However when someone leaves geocaching.com they take their caches with them, which can be a blow to a community. I also hope I didn't imply that the CO's leaving is influencing anyone else to leave, I'm just remarking on a trend I've noticed in the geocaching.com community and how it relates to what were seeing here.
  2. My 2 cents (what it's worth) is that the saddest part of this is whole thing that the reason the CO was archiving the cache was because he was driven away from geocaching.com. And fiascoes such as this only drive more people away.
  3. Barbados seems to have quite a few. Peurto Rico has a ton. The Cayman Islands also has a large amount (for being such a small island too)! Speaking from experience, California and Las Vegas were great caching.
  4. WARNING Be careful when hiding birdhouse caches! One multi I did had the coordinates going right to a birdhouse I opened it up and there was what looked like a realistic bird inside. I decided to search out a bit more and right before I was going to see if the bird was real I found the cache coords underneath the birdhouse. Moral of the story: if its not IN the birdhouse make that clear!
  5. The weirdest thing I'd ever seen was an abandoned tent with everything necessary for camping nearby. Hadn't been used in at least a year but it looked like someone might have been living in it right then. Creepy!
  6. Taking a 3 hour drive in from Ontario. Gonna be an Epic-Event (better than Mega)
  7. What GPSr Make and Model do you use? Magellan Triton 500 On a scale of 1 (terrible) to 10 (best) what would you rate your GPSr? 8 What is the best feature of your GPSr you like best? Accuracy What is the worst thing about your GPSr? Computer Software And finally If you were to get a new GPSr, which one would you want next? iPhone
  8. Gee, thanks for bringing another cache not related to the discussion into the mix. But no, it doesn't say anything about someone noticing suspicious activity - if you actually READ the log you can see that was said as a joke from one cacher to another who was arriving. But thanks much for arm-chair caching from Ontario to "discover(ed)" the cache! Your right, clearly I should investigate further and contact local authorities. Surely there is some sort of privacy ordinance that could be getting broken here.
  9. I just discovered a cache that borders people's backyards and is also by a parking lot of a business. At first I thought it might be well hidden but in a log it says that someone noticed the suspicious activity. Clearly this needs to be archived. GC2B5WB (note its premium only).
  10. Geocaching Hipsters are coming: " You've probably never heard of it, but I was into Geocaching back in '01, those were the best ones, Groundspeak really sold out since then."
  11. Yeah I think the reason a lot of people are complaining about site changes are because they are using an archaic browser... or IE, which seems to always be the last kid on the block to figure new web stuff out. Map bubbles work great for me on Chrome 11. The site runs snappy (usually) and I'm just not finding some of the things I've heard are busted. That's just me though Works perfectly fine for me - I'm using IE9. Ok I'll admit, IE9 is decent IE9 is pretty good. Firefox 4.0 on the other hand, is horrible. It was unbearably slow with add-ons for me. FF4.0 came out around the same time as the update. If you are using firefox 4.0 and find it slow, I recommend downloading Mozilla's Aurora browser (basically an early version of Firefox 5.0). It's lightening fast for me on this site.
  12. Largest one I've found is definitely Afurthest GC25M3X just look at the pics. The thing is a beast
  13. I'm going to go for the Haida cache soon. Amazing ship, definitely a must visit if you get the chance.
  14. Saw thisover on Reddit and couldn't help but think of this thread. The almost 1500 comments for it have a ton of men saying the same story. You aren't alone.
  15. That's almost always a fail. There may have been a time when the media reported the facts, but those days are long gone. As media went global, this became a bigger problem. Now, someone from Ontario can form inaccurate opinions based on misleading reporting, regarding something that happened in Florida. Because you are so far away, digging for details becomes challenging. My personal rule is: Never believe anything I read in the media unless I can personally verify it through other means. I also don't believe someone I don't know who "says" they were at the crime scene and "saw" secret videos.
  16. this is what happens when you confuse a news story with reality. The fidiots in the media decided to portray that predator as a martyr, and ignored relevant facts brought out in the investigation. The story snowballed, until the State Attorney decided they would be unable to get a conviction, opting not to waste tax dollars on a trial. Having seen the video that the media decided not to release, and having talked to one of the deputies on scene, I can tell you his actions were, in no way, innocent. Knowing what kind of predator he is, I knew it was just a matter of time before he struck again. Thankfully, the media is not trying to reinvent history... this time. Hopefully their decision will keep the arm chair quarterbacks at bay... this time. If it was a simple as you say it is (video) then why did the mother not continue with the charges? See the part that I bolded. I know nothing about the case y'all are discussing, but I do know that victims mothers don't get to decide if criminals are prosecuted or not. Well the media report I posted stated that the mother had dropped it but the police were pursued it on a lesser charge anyway.

  18. (OT) googled this one.. turns out the kid isn't the saint that was portrayed. And the info in the new story calls into question the previous incident.. link to new incident: http://articles.orla...l-on-school-bus The boy was a saint in regards to the toddler situation, which is that he did nothing wrong except try to help the child but was charged anyway.
  19. If people exaggerate the dangers of the possible, but unlikely, consequences of their actions, then fewer people will help each other. More people will die because less first-aid will be administered by strangers (potential lawsuits). Fewer elderly will have their sidewalks shoveled by neighbors (potential heart attacks). More lost children will wander in distress (possible police charges). Etc. Etc. Etc. It's not paranoia that men are stereotyped as pedophiles, its a reality. Would I help a child in need? Yes, but I would have to do it knowing I could end up in jail. Tragically most people don't know that's the choice they have to make.
  20. Actually found it from this site, I stumbled on the geocaching a while before but lost it in my bookmarks. The 2nd time I investigated more and then stayed up all night waiting to go caching
  21. Probably the UK or Germany, but any European country would do, so much history!
  22. This is sadly typical in today's sick society. Did you know that they don't allow lone children to sit beside men on some airlines? Same thing and its completely sexist without a doubt. If your wife had been there instead of you it absolutely would not have happened. Definitely don't let the police question your daughter alone. I'd have been traumatized too if I were questioned by two armed strangers without my parents. She only needs to say one thing that could have been misconstrued and your daughter could have been taken. It happens more than people want to think. I could probably find 10 examples or more in less than a half hour. And on whether or not men should help lost girls. Sadly the best answer is run away. A 14 year old boy tried to help a girl find her mother and was charged even though the mother withdrew! Story is here. Call the police if you want, but who knows maybe they'll try and connect you to it or something. Don't give up though, the only way to break these biases/stereotypes is to be out there. Unless we want a world where fathers can't have quality time with their daughters.
  23. 11 days, happened during the first big chill of December. Didn't even want to go outside to save my life better yet find a cache. I'm pleased that I recently had an 11 day streak.
  24. Treasures Ontario: Niagara Falls, Devil's Punchbowl Alberta: Ice Fields, Lake Louise Quebec: Quebec City (walled city) Best Ontario Cache: I would say The Battle of Queenston Heights has the perfect combination of Canadian history, challenge, exercise and exploration.
