  1. There is a multi-cache in my area that HAD a clue "Was not hidden by a troll." In the area there was a huge stack of cut wood, and of course a small bridge. I thought the clue was an indicator that the cache was NOT at the bridge, and the coordinates were actually leading me more to the wood anyway. After a half hour of unstacking and restacking wood I went and checked the bridge... voila!!! The clue was changed a few months later to not be sarcastic anymore.
  2. I have a 5 foot staff with a steel hook on the end. I also have multiple rare earth magnets attached to my hats to clip to the hook and use for this type of situation. I haven't need to yet because I've been tall enough so far, but I have these with me just in case.
  3. Funny you should post this, when I first started caching (not long ago) I thought that taking out a metal detector would be a good way to find caches quickly out in the wilderness once you got close. Though it would take some sport out of it. I also resolved to use as little metal in my caches as possible too, lol.
  4. Sure enough my young family and I ran into another young family of geocachers while searching for the same exact cache... what the heck is the etiquette in such a situation? My little brother found the cache first because we had already been combing the area. But they were kind and we all wished each other luck.
