  1. When trying to determine weather patterns/changes what should be set in the GPSr , ambient or barometer?
  2. I currently own a 60CSx, 60C and a yellow Etrex. I have playing with "old yeller" lately... there is a certain pleasure in simplicity.
  3. I love mine! I wouldn't change anything except maybe longer battery life.
  4. Get him the Garmin 60cx with City Navigator and the Topo US software. At GPSNOW.com you can get everything for 569.95-50.00 rebate. Sightly over budget, but he will have everthing he will ever need with the added bonus of expandable memory.
  5. I left my old legend on top of a friends truck and didnt realize that it was lost until we were about 20 miles down the road. We'll my buddy turned around and we found it in a ditch with a small scratch on the housing and having a strong signal.
  6. I use mine all of the time for fishing. Once I have navigated to the trail head I switch from CN to topo so that I can view streams and trails. There have been times during navigation that I have had to switch back and forth between maps. Another good one is the National Geographic topo. You cant download these maps to your GPSr but you can transfer tracks/wayoints/routes back and forth from computer to unit. These maps are very detailed and so far I have been happy with them.
  7. Do you think you deleted them accidently during a transfer?
  8. Although I haven't experienced the compass needle loss yet, I noticed that my 60CSx actually has little foam pads under the contacts factory installed. Jan Well mine must have been made a 5:00, because it is missing the pads but I will try some foam. Thanks for the reply. I have noticed the foam pads on mine as well and have had no problems with the compass. After calibrating it, it is running neck and neck with my Cammenga compass.
  9. I know the updater updates the unit software, but does it also add the additional updates such as chip updates, usb, etc?
  10. I installed mine last night and it looks like once installed that CSv7 is kept seperate from CNv8, which I like. That way I am not having to use the bigger map segments on my 60c.
  11. Sometimes on my map page(Garmin 60CSx) I see a white rectangle with a green border(top and bottom). Does anyone know what it is?
  12. Upgraded to a 60CSx from a 60C and it is like night and day. The reception is way better with stronger signals and the electronic compass is nice when getting close to caches. I added a 1g memory card and it holds tons of road and topo maps and the barometer is cool to watch changing weather patterns. I love it. The only problem I have had is that it wouldnt route me back to a waypoint via roads. Once I did a little investigating, I turned off City Select to show only topo maps during a hunt and didnt switch back, so the fault was my own. Once again, very sweet unit that gets awesome reception under heavy cover.
  13. On my 60csx the barometer never gets a steady fix on the elevation. Is this normal? It jumps a few feet up and down. I am using the elevation that is set onto the GPS. Any thoughts?
  14. It should have come with a belt clip. My 60 c did.
  15. Talk to Garmin Thanks for the replies. Once again you all have been extremely helpful.
  16. To clarify, the map segments in CN8 are larger than those in CS7, but smaller than those in CN7. If you have a receiver with limited (non-expandable) memory, you probably should stick with CS7. GW Thanks for the help.
  17. I am currently using City Select v7 and I am thinking of getting the City Navigator v8 upgrade. Are there any problems in doing this and what would be the benefits of CNv8. I have tried to compare the two but the only thing I could get out of it was that the newer version of CN let you choose smaller "chunks" of maps, which is better for those that dont have the upgradable memory. Anything else? Any potential problems?
  18. This may have be addressed in the past, but is it worth it to upgrade this software to my 60c? I am currently using City Select.
  19. I would get the yellow etrex. If you have an Aldi store, they are selling them for 79.00.
  20. Got it loaded and you all were right this thing now kicks a**. Thanks for all of the instructions. It is nice to have the router, the topo maps, the street maps, the color screen, the beeps, the calander..... did I mention that I love my 60c? Thanks again for all of your help.
  21. I am with you on this one. I just upgraded from a legend to a 60C and I am overwhelmed in a good way. The mapping and color screen is awesome and it is easier to see. My City Select software will be in today, so I will induldge myself in the routing capabilities this afternoon. There is a tremendous difference between my old 315 and my new unit and I am stoked. Just to sync with your computer on waypoints and potential fishing locations is beautiful. I love my 60c!!!
  22. Right on! Thanks again everyone.
  23. Thanks everyone!! Will City Select show streams and rivers in detail or will I need to utilize the topo for those features?
