  1. Yes it is easy to change, but imagine if it was you who had to do it each time.( the other day I found my record, 35 in a day, and it took me over an hour to go through and change them all...) There are 1,000's of cachers who this effects, many premium members who pay annual fees. I don't think it can be that difficult to GS to fix this.
  2. When logging a cache on a smartphone in a different time /day zone, it logs at the US time/ day. I posted here a few days ago hoping to find a solution ( very annoying to have to go online later and adjust them all) Apparently Groundspeak have been aware of the issue for several years, but it is not a priority. I would like to see how many replies I can get here, from those who this effects and see if we can get Groundspeak to fix this. Please pass this on in your country geocaching groups and lets see how many cachers we can get to reply to this. My apologies if it is possible, please let me know how. ( I have adjusted my time zone in my account profile, but it made no difference when I logged a cache on the 15th, it still showed up as on the 14th.
  3. I would like to point out this problem to Groundspeak personnel ( I wonder if they read these forums?) and would love a reply to see if they are aware of the problem, and if they are planning to fix it- there are 10,000's (?) of cachers in Europe/Australasia and Asia who are not on same time zone as the US. I hope this could be passed along to the people who can do something about it. Thanks Super Naitos
  4. I don't believe changing the time zone in your account settings fixes this problem. I understand that the log edit screen will always open on Seattle time. But once you've changed it for your first log of the day it will remember the date. Really, S***! Just checked as I dashed out earlier for a FTF, yes you are right.Todays date the 15th here was shown as 14th! Very annoying as I usually log as I go on my iphone, and you can't set date on the app- though I guess I could go onto the website and log the first one- pain when you are out caching and want to keep on caching. Antone else- maybe from Groundspeak can think about solving this issue please- this effects thousands of cachers who are not in the USA!!!
  5. Thank you very much Scrapcat. Will do that now.
  6. I just had a quick search but could not finsd anything on the forums, hoping someone can point me in the correct direction. I live in Japan, home coordinates are for Japan. Why when I log caches they come up as the day before? ( ie this morning it was the 13th here, but all my logs showed the 12th (USA time/date) very frustrating, and time consuming to go back manually and change all logs. Surely there must be a way to recognize other time/date zones? Has happened before, but with today's personal best (35 caches woopee!!!) it was particularly annoying. Thanks for any help. (hoping there is just a setting somewhere I need to change)
  7. Thank you for your replies, when I have a chance I will repair and re-upload it.
  8. Ok I have just seen how to make it inactive so others can not see it. Now I need to know if on the left by uploading a new GWZ file will over ride the old one. Anyone know? Thanks If not how should I remove this one so I can start again? Thanks
  9. I have finally finished making my first Wherigo, and tested it several times on the emulator. It seemed ok so I uploaded it to Wherigo (though I choose not to publish it,/put on directory) hoping I could test it first. It was the only way I could see how to actually put it onto my GOS and test it (please tell me if there is another way) 1) It appears to me , can anyone else see it? I hope not! "Mito Kairakuen Explorer" (In Japan) I downloaded it to my iphone and GPS and today went to actual location and tested it several times. A few screens show up early and I need to edit it. I can not see on the Wherigo site how to remove it./tempory disable it /replace it. I need to edit it on Wherigo builder then re-upload it Thanks for reading, and for any advice. It was a great learning curve for me to make it, and I was so happy to see it pretty much work in the field! Super Naito Japan
  10. I did a letterbox cache meaning I have managed to complete a challenge I set myself - to do at least one of each of the 10 different types of caches ( not including the APE ones, as those are just in the USA)
  11. All iphones are locked here in Japan to one provider. Again ignorant- May see if I can get my old iphone unlocked as it is out of contract. I would love to be able to just add a sim card, would I be able to pay as I go and use iphone as a phone as well as wifi? No idea how it all works at all, but think I will be lost without mobile phone also in UK. Weatherspoons sounds a good option, beer while logging finds, cant go wrong.... Another alternative might be to get a one-month contract Sim-only deal. GiffGaff are a pretty good value sim-only supplier. But this option would need an unlocked iPhone.
  12. Thanks, this mifi looks good. If BT open zone is mainly in built up areas, may not be so good if I go caching out in the countryside. Is Mifi pretty much available anywhere a mobile phone reception would be? Thanks for the information. Glad to hear 3gb might last me the month for just online surfing and iphone use,(no video watching.)
  13. Hi Thanks Keehotee Does the Mifi plug in (USB/) or is it wireless? Again ignorant here, as I use unlimited wifi and do not really know what a 3gb will be? If I used my mac to surf online an hour or 2 a day, would that last a week/month?, no idea If it is wireless and I use my iphone on it out geocaching, how long would 3gb last if I was using my iphone on and off all day to search nearest caches and log? would 3gb run out within a few days? Again thanks for your reply and apologies for being so ignorant. I am so use to just unlimited wireless here on my iphone for about 35 quid a month I just don't think about how much it is using! Going to have to rethink how often I use it/get online when I am back for the summer ;( Hi You can buy a Mifi which will give you your broadband connection with a 3gb allowance for about £50 - but I haven't seen them to rent anywhere. Free wifi here in Bristol's a bit hit and miss. Places like MacDonalds have it, and there may be a few other hot spots around....but no larger scale municipal networks yet.
  14. Hi Apologies for my ignorance, I have not been back to the UK in 3 years ( I live in Japan) I will be in the UK this summer and excited to cache somewhere other than Japan. I have an Garmin Oregon 200 and also iphone which I like to use so I can log as I go. I am not planning to use the iphone/internet connection with my Japanese phone provider as cost will be outrageous. I am thinking either to 1) Rent one of those wifi small thingymajigys that I have seem business men have here, it basically ,makes you a wifi area and lets you use computer/iphone with wifi capabilities. Sorry to be so naive but do they have those in the UK? And if so does anyone know if you can rent them, and where and approx cost for a month(phone shop/Heathrow?) My parents do not even have a computer so I am going to need something for 5 weeks while I am back...... Secondly if the above does not seem possible-how are inner city wifi free zones? Do they have them in major cities ( Bristol/ and of course Swansea-mega Wales here I come!!!) Would my iphone pick up on them and is the range good enough for a good downtown hunt, or is it really just a few select spots here and there Thanks for any replies and help. Looking forward to caching in around Bristol and Swansea and surrounding areas this summer...
  15. Hi I am so excited to be visiting Uk and my home town Bristol this summer. I live in Japan and have only been caching in Japan. I have an oregon 200 and I believe I will need to buy a microcard for the UK (at least South/west and Wales-plan to go to Mega event!!!) prices online range incredibly from 200 pounds for an all 3 regions, to 60 quid for each region.I also saw online somewhere offering an all region chip for under 30! Obviously I want to save money and wonder if these would actually work? Thanks The link for the 30 quid one is below, any idea if it is reputable or not? Thanks. http://gb.ioffer.com/i/garmin-topo-uk-great-britain-on-micro-sd-card-latest-v2-127348483 PS any Cachers in the Bristol( W-O-T,Henleaze) area want to met up, please let me know....Thanks
  16. Hi I also wanted to learn, and I also had no idea. It is not too difficult. Go to photobucket and set up an account (free) and find some background, copy the image http address in the space given on edit listing page for background. If you want to add a photo, again I used photobucket, they have many stock photos or you can upload your own. Copy the link they give you in your long description box and dont forget to click the small box above saying The descriptions below are in HTML For text/colors I used Xinha. This was/is still all new to me, I am no expert at all, but by playing around and trial and error I think I have made some nice webpages...not perfect, but not bad...take a look and tell me what you think, (I am pretty proud of my Creatures in the woods cachepage) if I can do it anyone can! shame so many just use/log with smart phones nowadays and never visit the webpages!
  17. I would never post a unique cache when logging but I often take photos for my own memory of great caches and wish there was a way I could upload them to my profile photo section /gallery on the geocaching website. Is there any way to do this? I can only see that I need to upload it to a specific cache, and that would give the game away. Thanks for any help.
  18. Interesting. Some of you have a lot, though I guess these LPF (?) must be a bit monotonous. I have 44 within 10 miles, 24 of them are mine! (Small town, Japan) If I change to 100 miles I am lucky and have nearly 2400 , and as I have only found 117 so far that should keep me going for a while....
  19. Hey B-rad I am working with Groundspeak to make a model available for purchase for the caching community. If you can be patient I hope to have something worked out in a month or so. It will be a 4 dial mini cryptex to start with and we will see where it goes from there. There is alot of R&D that goes into making a unit that is cost effective to manufacture and keep the cost low enough to intrest the paying public to generate sales. Stay tuned and if your looking for something custom drop me an email... Cheers Soxter This is fantastic, would love to have one of these, nothing like this at all here in Japan. Happy to hear they may be available to purchase . Thanks so much for sharing your design, wish I had the tools and skills to make one myself.. Some very clever geocachers out there who can design and produce diagrams explaining it all, way over my head...
  20. I notice the dipping feature yesterday, very handy compared to before. Did not notice the auto check though. Even better thanks. I try to log finds on iPhone in field as I go ( saves time later) can you try to work this dipping feature in the application for iPhone sometime please ???? If I Remember iris difficult to add trackables when editing a cach online onc back home. Thanks
  21. I was checking out this small park on edge of a lake, to check coordinates a second time before placing a cache. This is countryside Japan. I had been there before and noticed just a few old fishermen, and a caretakers hut ( it was also a camp ground in summer). Walking down the very narrow country road from car park to the park I saw walking towards me,an transvestite, (unusual I suspect in rural Japan), but I had to smile as he was wearing JUST a blue satin basque, black suspender belt, panties and stockings, oh and high heels!. Maybe I would not be surprised if it was in certain areas of downtown Tokyo in an evening, but this park /lake was really in the middle of nowhere. I wonder if he was the caretaker, or taking care of the caretaker...?
  22. there, you already unzipped it. the oregon 200 has extremely limited internal memory. the specs say 24 MB, which should be enough for a couple of PQs, but i don't know what else you put on there. either clean up whatever else you put on there, or invest in a small micro-SD card. you can also delete some of the stuff that it came with, but be careful, some of the files are vital and the oregon won't work without them. so only do that if you really know what you're doing. you don't need to do all that, there's no need for any 3rd party apps. connecting the oregon and putting the files from PQ into the /garmin/gpx/ directory is all you need to do. I just did it! I had read about garmin basecamp before but thought it was more for maps and routes. While waiting for replies I downloaded it, dragged that unzipped file to it, and then clicked "send to GPS". It worked, I am so happy, I now have 500 PQ with all info and past logs on my GPS !!! Thank you for the replies. Problem solved
  23. HI I have been using iphone until now, but just excitedly received my Garim oregon 200 this week. Well I have had a lot of trouble downloading PQ into it. (and am seriously loving the ease of the iphone and wondering why I bothered to buy a GPS!) Please help me to overcome my problem. I have spent the last few days searching forums/garmin for answers, GSAK is recommended, but that seems to be for windows. I use Mac and have garmin oregon 200. PLease keep any answers relatively easy as I am learning as I go and not very technically minded. Thanks. I have manages to download caches one by one from website directly to it, but obviously that is not optimal I can download PQ OK. They say to "unzip it" using a winzip or something, but that seems to be just for windows ?. I can not find anything similar for a mac. I can put the file on the desktop and open it and see 2 separate files, caches and waypoints. When I connect my GPS and drag those files to it it says "memory full" even though the GOS has no or just a few caches on it, I also installed maccache . I somehow put the PQ in there on a "cache list" ( but now I can't remember how!) anyway, then I try to press the "to GPS " but a message comes back "gpsbabel quit unexpectantly" I did not even realize I had this gpsbabel. But I googled it, and "installed " or reinstalled it as case may be, restarted mac and same message happens. Thank you very much if you have read this far and can help.
  24. Thank you to those who replied. I am now planning the cache. Now I want to find a cheap lockable waterproof box. Take care and Happy caching.
  25. Hi I had same problem, I knew another cache was close but really wanted to place one at this great old steam train, but was not sure if it was far enough away from the other cache. I realized if I stood where I wanted to place cache, and then set my GPS to navigate to the other cache. It will then show you are .... feet/meters away from the other one. You may have to move 10 feet or so to qualify. When I got home I found this site http://boulter.com/gps/distance/ you can input 2 sets of coordinates and it will calculate the distance between them. Good luck placing your caches.
