  1. Thanks, but that was the first tool that I tried and although I have a great respect for google.com the results were not as good as Babel Fish. The Pocket Query translation continues to be a problem.
  2. Hello, When traveling to other countries it would be nice to be able to translate cache pages from the local language to your native language. I was able to do web translations for individual pages using Bable Fish from Altavista. You can even do a basic search and all cache pages you click on in your search will be translated. I tried this with a Pocket Query search but since this requires a logon the translation fails. Does anyone have a solution that works with pocket query searches? Thanks, CacheKestrel
  3. Use caution with this program. Here is what I discovered... See more details about: Buggy Firefox Extension Should Be Deleted Security Notice
  4. Humm... well thanks for the feedback. I guess you will need an actual location for a virtual. I was thinking it would be fun trying to find two travel bugs both are moving targets. To log a find you must post a find on both TB pages. Cachers could work together and help each other locate both. I am not sure how to make this work.
  5. OK lets say you have two travel bugs placed in different caches. Find a TB that is fine but find both and you can log a virtual cache find. I am thinking of having one placed somewhere in USA and another in Europe. What do you think?
  6. What a coincidence that these logos look so much alike. There must be a story behind the design of the GeoCaching website logo. I wonder if the Windows flag had anything to do with this. As you can see by my avatar the logo works for me. <------>
  7. AJK, This is very interesting and with just a little bit of exploring of this new FireFox/Google Maps tool I can see the potential. After installing GreaseMonkey I visited several cache pages and yes the satellite mapping is incredible. The get directions doesnt work with the pages I tested it with, probably because the waypoints were not on a street. The most interesting results I got was the Virtual Hike the AT page. You can really see the all the waypoints along the Appalachian Mountains. I was a little disapointed that I could not get it to work with the "View them all on one page" link. It would be great to be able see all the waypoints on one map. Thanks for sharing...
  8. Hello, Thought that you would enjoy this creative Google tool. 1) Click Start recording 2) Double click on your start point 3) Double click on your end point ...and let Gmaps Pedometer tell you how far it is. Link -----> Gmaps Pedometer
  9. This is enough to keep me away as noted in this log...> Cache Log
  10. Today(SUNDAY) I logged my cache finds with out any website slowness. I just wanted to say one thing. THANK YOU!
  11. This is encouraging. It looks like they are trying to fix the problem. Geocaching.com is down for maintenance We're in the process of upgrading our database servers. This should improve the speed of the web site. Thanks for your patience In the meantime, you can visit the Groundspeak forums or check out the Groundspeak store. Both of these web sites do not rely on the Geocaching database.
  12. This is the error the Geocaching website burped up when I was trying to search a TB. I got the same message the past three Sundays. The server is busy and can not process my request. This is why I must wait until Monday to complete any logs.
  13. Here you go... I guess I will do my posts tomorrow. Server Error in '/' Application. Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Exception Details: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.
  14. I map my queries using map software on my computer. It is not bad but it does take a few steps. 1) Download waypoints 2) Convert them to *.user format with GPSBABLE (Lowrance GPSr users only) 3) Load data into map program. Note: You may not need to convert your waypoints from the *.LOC format. Many programs will read these files as is so that step two can be skipped.
  15. Here is the site for this kind of browsing http://wap.geocaching.com/ - Give it a try
  16. As a premium member you can also set up a pocket query that looks for all member only caches. This is where your membership really pays off. Check out the pocket queries in the My Account page. After doing your query click on the preview link to see the search results. Enjoy
  17. GeoCaching.com continues to provide the best caching site on the web (IMHO) and it would be a shame if its own popularity causes people to seek other services. Please keep us updated on any progress that is made to correct this problem. Thank You.
  18. This is not about the money, premium members and free accounts will have the exact same problem. It is the same servers after all. I agree that something needs to be done about the performance. Money can be used to restrict access during peak times. Restrictions for non-premium members during peak times may provide some short term relief but the site is not scaled to handle these spikes in activity. I share your grief…
  19. With 100% positive feedback you can't go wrong. This guy is a genius... and just think one location for only $2.25 and shipping cost... gee yeah who needs shipping! It would suck to log a DNF on this one. How about a clue for an extra $1.00?
  20. Weapon? …who needs a weapon? I worry about being stuck in a ditch without a winch if I go off road.
  21. This bill dosen't define virtual caches as GeoCacheing and where does the offset cache fall in all this? I guess there are some details that are missing. Do the law makers realy understand what GeoCaching is about? If cache owners respect the land why try to control them? In any event it can not be good.
  22. So this is kind of like a "Cache House" not to be confused with a "Crack House" humm… that just doesn’t seem right. I would avoid a cache placed in someone's yard.
  23. Yes it is hard to admit a DNF. I have a funny story about this one. We were looking for a micro in the woods (go figure) when we arrived to GZ there were two geocachers wandering around with puzzled looks on their face. We introduced ourselves to these very nice people. The frustrated geocachers confessed that they returned to this location after a failed attempt with clues provided by the cache owner. We offered to help look for the cache and with much effort the search ended in frustration for our new cachers friends. Not willing to give up we stayed until we found the cache. I posted a "Find" that may have prompted a shameful DNF from our geocacher friends. Sorry... The funny thing is that we might not have found this one with out the clues shared by the frustrated geocachers.
  24. I got 4 in one day when caching alone. I am not sure being in a group is an advantage. I am new to the game so I look for the new exciting locations not numbers. One good location is better then three lame ones IMHO.
  25. Just wanted to thank those who took the time to 'educate' Michael Donnelly as to what GeoCaching is all about. Ignorance is the enemy! I think that protecting the natural environment is a noble cause, but to single out GeoCachers as a threat is more then misguided, it’s damaging. GeoCachers could become allies for this effort. The appreciation for the “Sacred Nature” that many of us cherish is a common thread. The responsible use of technology is not a threat to the Wilderness but provides more people the chance to experience what makes it special. Wilderness areas are vulnerable to political decisions that ignore the needs of this natural environment.
