It's not the most original idea, but we leave LarsThorwald pencils in caches. I don't consider these trade items, just extra leave-behinds (when they fit). We also have stickers to put in log books. Crap! I've been meaning to place a BRIDGE TO NOWHERE CACHE for a year now... and it's already there! I actually set out last year to do it, toting a full box, but ended up taking the ROAD to nowhere instead - thinking, stupidly, that it LED to the bridge to nowhere. Unfortunately, it led... nowhere. Is it just me? I think this audit aspect is kind of scary. I don't really care who's looking at my cache pages and when... but I'm pretty sure I don't like the fact that someone else knows what I'm doing with my computer. I think both cache ideas are fine. Obviously, you're limiting the number of responses you're ever going to get by having aa cache as specific as the Devil Strip, but who cares?
