  1. Never mind, google is my friend and i searched for it. I was referring to DPM. And its not latin it was french. Which is an abbreviation for “des palourdes mortes", and is french for The Dead Clams.
  2. Why is it that, whenever this subject comes up, we end up discussing two extremes... blank.TFTC, or epic novels. There is a happy medium. Oftentimes, a single, short sentence is all that is needed: "Great walk to the cache, spotted a bluebird on the way. TFTC" would make a GREAT log! Couldn't agree more. I guess i got everyone riled up in my OP when i said i wanted a 500 word essay. Everyone overlooked that that was just an idea for one cache hide, which i later found out was against the guidlines. I dont actually want the 500 word extreme logs on all my hides. just one or 2 sentences. Plus on most of my hides i ask for feedback in the description. How well is it hidden? Is the D/T propper for the hide? How cool is the container? I only have 7ish hides (6 now i think, i had to archive one) so far and i've been trying to only hide uniuqe ones. The feedback would only help me be a better hider. When i'm out hunting, i also use TFTC on bad hides like others have stated. I realize this isnt the norm though so thats not why it grinds my gears. I really just like the feedback and know people enjoyed my cache. I guess i should try to bring back that 3 letter accronym that was used for bad hides. I don't remember what it was, i recall seeing it here in the forums last year. I believe it was latin, anyone know what im referring to?
  3. Does the picture actually have something in it, or is it just white? Perhaps its a picture of a hand written log that only says, TFTC!
  4. Yeah I agree, thats why i said that in my OP. Really, read everything, then comment. It will make the world a happier place.
  5. Why not make all of your caches good hides to begin with? Where did he say that he felt some of his were not good hides? Where did I say he felt that way? I agree, you took what i said way out of context. I think most of my hides are very good. But i am a little bias
  6. No, I am one of those people who think it is wrong to ask of other to meet a standard that I don't meet myself. So if I generally don't write essays on caches I would not have the double standard to try to force/guilt/whatever people into writing essays on my own caches. Your request for people to write essays on logs would be much more legitimate to me and add a good deal more weight to your request if the previous logs you wrote were essays. I think that is a very good idea. See, we can agree on something at least. Like i said man, i didnt actually want 500 words, just better and more descriptive. Im pretty decripitive on caches that are good hides. No, not 500 words or essays, that was just an over exaggerated example. Just be more descriptive, my hides that i was refering to are fun and crative. More deserving than TFTC only logs. Did you even read my last post entirly? i was pretty descriptive there. and i was being sarcastic about starting to think about the guidlines. IM A REBEL!
  7. NOW THATS A LOG! I have one similar, not as long, but kayaking related. you can read it here.
  8. I've been a bit curious about this also. I'm active duty so i figure i might PCS once or twice in my career. HOPEFULLY! lol. I figured just archive and share the hide somewhere else. or put up for adoption. I only have one problem for when i move back home to Columbus, ohio with one of my hides. Its a University of Michigan themed cache with a cool paintjob on the ammo can. That one will probably not last in central ohio lol. guess that ammo can will look nice in my man cave.
  9. Like i said in my OP, I wouldnt actually want 500 words (only if they wanted to write that much and it would be greatly appreciated). I wouldnt count to make sure any of them were 500 anyways. And 80 words is 79 more than TFTC. I feel that im pretty descriptive on most of my logs. I notice alot of people go back thru origional posters logs just to try to prove them wrong on a forum. I find that a bit odd. Are you a geodetective or one of those "I know it all and im gonna prove you wrong on a pointless matter because i can kind of people"? In some states "geostalking" is illegal i think. lol just kidding. but really, im sure you heard the term "read between the lines." but you should try actually reading the lines. in my OP i even said i wouldnt actually require 500 words. come on man, get it together! Manily i was just venting but the idea of an essay required log does/did sound interesting and fun to me. As long as the hide was worth it, and i would of made it worth it. If you dont want to write a long essay log for the find because you dont think it would be fun, then dont go find it. there is no guidline saying you have to find every geocache in your area. I honestly had no idea about the ALR guideline tho. I rarely ever even think about the guidelines in geocaching when i try to think up new hides. i guess i should start tho. I mean honestly to look at it from a hiders point of view. People dont want ALRs because it might take away from the fun or whatever so they made a guidline or rule aginst them. But there are so many guidlines in hiding geocaches, it takes away from the hiders fun in my opinion. i get the ones for safety but some areas could be lightened up on. but thats another forum post. The "liar log" or story log cache idea is interesting. I havent seen one of those before. The thought of having to make it optional and the likely hood of still getting TFTC only logs still grinds my gears Im a hider that enjoys hiding cause i enjoy reading the logs. I really dont see how that means i should stop hiding then? Im glad im not the only one that shares my pep peev. Also while i agree that being new and smartphone logging may have a bit to do with it, im not completly forgiving just because you are new. We all were new once. I just started over a year ago and all i was using was C:geo and my android. From day one i didnt just leave TFTC only logs(not that i can remember, im sure someone will go back on my logs to prove me wrong). I actually just started leaving TFTC only logs on bad or boring hides this year. Also, also. like i said in my OP, not every cache is desrving a good log. but i feel my caches that i get them on do deserve good logs. i would say all but 2 of my caches are fun or creative hides in one way or another. 1 of the 2 is a bit boring, it was only my second hide, what you want from me? i expect TFTC only logs. My first hide being the other but now that i think about it, it has a poetic name and a nice message beind it. But the others are pretty crative in my opinon. If you dont believe me, come find them! Even leave a TFTC only log if you want, its still gonna grind my gears. But im sure you may want to leave a bit more because im positive they would put a smile on your face, Okay, im done venting again.... please dont attack me.
  10. Im tired of people leaving just TFTC logs on my caches. So i was thinking of maybe doing an essay themed cache. In order to be able to log it as a find, you have to write at least, oh i dunno lets say a 500 word log. If you dont, i delete your log. ok well i wouldnt actually count to make sure its 500 words, just as long as its descriptive and not just TNLN, SLTFTC... In the description i would explain why its nice to leave good logs. so what ya think, bad idea or has any seen this before? edit: oh i forgot to add that i would make sure that it was a good hide, worthy of nothing but great logs. I'll be the first one to agree that some hides aren't worth great logs but we all should still try to write a decent log just to lead by example.
  11. Float Plane. Or, a bush plane on a rocky beach. Or halo drop of airstip building monkeys perhaps?
  12. Back to OT. Anyone else ever have problems when logging Tbs as missing in your owned caches? I agree with OP, I don't want TBs as beeing listed in my cache if they are not actually there.
  13. I answered the question. You thought to share a personal experience and I responded to you. So let's spread around that off-topic responsibility a bit more evenly. If you place a cache with the advertisement that it is a place to put travel bugs, not that you put a large container, not that it has easy access, not that people find out on their own it's a handy place to drop a bug, you said 'Hey people, this is where you can put your bugs', you took on responsibility that it is in fact a good place to put a travel bug. It is in no way just another cache. edit: clipped a couple words and had to replace them Wow man are you high? you never answered any question that warturtle or myself have asked you. all you did was call me an irresponsible cache owner. How can I,as the TB hotel owner make my cache any safer for TBs? My cache has never been muggled or stolen. any Tbs that have gone missing out of my cache have been to members not logging them. Bluedeuce? more like BlueDOUCHE. If your cache is no safer than any other cache you shouldn't be telling people that it's a place to exchange travel bugs. I wasn't just sayin my cache wasnt any safer than any other cache. ANY TB hotel is just another cache. A TB hotel is just a cache named as a hotel to atract TBs, often near a place of long travel (interstates, airports, this has all been stated). Sorry if we're bursting your magical bubble that you have been in. I guess maybe you own exlusive 5 star limited access TB resorts? As Warturtle stated, How could someone possibly make them any safer? My cache has never even been muggled as i stated. Gets plenty of visitors and nothing but good logs. I do regular maitenece, used to report missing TBs untill I got the snotty email from one TB owner. I was just sharing a personal experience with the OP about the original topic. Then here you come blasting me and saying im an irresponsible cache owner? Oh, sorry for the inappropriate name, I just call 'em like I see 'em. I know you probably think your empowered over everyone else in the forum because you have almost 20,000 posts, but that doesnt give you the right to be a douche.
  14. Good idea. I never even considered making it a PMO. Thanks for some positive feedback.

  16. Good question. What makes any cache a good TB hotel? A responsible owner would be a start. Apparently that doesn't seem to be a concern for some people. How do you get that im an irresponsible cache owner out of what i posted? all i was doing was sharing a personal experience with the OP and you got way off topic as it is. Perhaps you should share what you think a safe TB hotel would be and how I, as the TB hotel owner, could be more "attentive" to my guests as you put it. Turndown and roomservice maybe? I really dont see how to make a TB hotel anysafer unless you want a TB fort knox with 24/7 armed security, holding a gun to anyones head making them log the TB right then and there and maybe a sniper across the way on a grassy knoll just in case anyone gets away.
  17. As a TB hotel owner you should be a bit more attentive to your guests. You invited them with the offer of a 'good' location to place bugs. As for the details I'd have to know which bugs had a problem. TB hotels are just as safe as anyother cache. As the owner, theres nothing i can do to make sure that everyone who takes a TB logs it.
  18. I've had this same problem with a travel bug motel that i own. There were 5 travle bugs all missing still in the inventory. After about a month i logged them all as missing. I got emails from the owners of 3 out of the 5 missing. 2 just asked if i could visit my cache and verify that they were not there and i gladly did. But 1 guy deleted my missing log, thus putting the travle bug back into my caches inventory. I again logged the travle bug as missing and put an explanation of why i was marking it as missing. The guy sent me a pretty snotty email asking why i was marking his travle bug as missing and asked me how i would like it if he marked my cache as needing archived. which makes no sense, its not the same thing. I emailed him back explaining what it ment to mark a travel bug as missing and as a cache owner, its part of the responsibilities and upkeep. in my opinion anyways. I dont want people going to my cache for travle bugs if they arnt actually there. well i guess the guy didnt see it that way and "virtually" grabbed the travle bug from my cache and posted a snotty note on his travle bug page about why he grabbed it. pretty much after that i got turned off from even dealing with travel bugs and now im thinking about archiving my TB motel. Its a good hide and gets plenty of travelers (its at an interstate exit) but i stopped marking missing travel bugs. oh btw, the last i looked at the guys TB page. He was "virtually" dipping it in almost every cache that he visited. Guess it never did turn up. Im thinking a nOOb took all 5 travel bugs that went missing.
  19. yeah, just re-log the find as TNLN SL TFTC FOUND or whatever u want. Theres a couple here that hides pretty munch only in dumpy areas. Not even for CITO, i guess they are just kind of trashy people that are attracted to trashy areas. But thats just my opinion about them. We dont get along at all, they refuse to search for any of my caches. I find theres just because they are all quick PnGs and easy number boosters. All i ever say in the logs is FOUND or TFTC. Which is against my own preaching. I hate people that leave short logs, but i also put alot of thought and creativity into almost all of my hides.
  20. Thats a great idea! I was actually thinking about buying an orange vest so it made it look even more official.
  21. I agree with the OP. I use C:geo along side with my handheld GPSr. It was a top notch app and simple to use. It was free so its not like the guy was making money off of Groundspeaks product. I guess they didn't like that one guy could produce a better app than what they had on the market. A free app, better than the $10 app. I also disagree with the previous poster. $10 is on the high end for a smart phone app. If your charging that much, it better be top quality. And although $30 a year for premium membership isn't alot, PQs and user routes don't really justify it either. Geocaching.com says that there are four million users world wide. There is no public info on how many of those are premium paying members that i'm aware of. But do the math, even if only one-fourth of them are paying members then thats still alot of money going to Groundspeak. One million paying users times $30, every year. Thats alot of money to go into a top quality product, which should include development of a great app. This is all just my opinion and none of those figures are facts ofcourse. Just my best educated judgement. Groundspeak isnt a publically traded company, so none of us can tell them how to spend and develop their earnings. This is just my feedback as a paying customer. I do feel that Groundspeak and geocaching.com do a great job, theres just always room for improvement.
