  1. ok i have been using GSAK on my PC for a long time. i have now changed to a mac. GSAK doesnt work with Mac. Does anybody know what i can use with mac that will replace GSAK and do the same great job it does or better? please help. i am also going to upgrade my maps to mac with garmin if i can find something to replace GSAK. let me know your thoughts. thanks, Scott
  2. Is there a way to track the number of finds a cache has had since its birth, without counting every log for it?
  3. Rocket man, I have a quote for you similar to yours: "Build a man a fire and he stays warm for a night. Set a man on fire and he stays warm for the rest of his life." Just a joke
  4. Lately I have been noticing that when I go out caching in an area I seem to be following someone. I will do a querie on an area and start my day. We will notice that when we sign the logs, lots of times the same person has signed it before us. Then on occasion we will sign the next log on our journey and the person we normally see previous to our log is not there. Later when we log our finds on the computer, we'll see that the person whom we were following has already logged their finds, but they don't log any DNF's on the ones we didn't see them on. They might not have searched for that particular cache, but if they were following an area in a querie, one would think they would have looked for it. Is there a problem with DNF's? As a cache owner, I would like to see DNF's to keep track of any problems (or my superior hiding skills, laugh). Lets hear it.
  5. sorry, I thought I posted in the wrong area, and did not know how to retrieve it.
  6. I have seen several blinker caches lately. Blinker caches for those who have not seen them are very small. They are approximately 1/2" in diameter by 1/2" tall. They are water proof and made of metal of some sort. I am not particullary fond of these, but I need one for a cache I am setting up, where size does count. Can someone help me locate one or tell me how to make one. Where do I get the parts, etc.?

  8. Yes, our 276cs talks to us too much while driving so we call her Gabby. Our 60cs is named Marcell because it is quiet, and our palm T5 is called Rosie, just because.
  9. Clyde or some other knowledgeable person out there, Where can I go to learn about the filters in GSAK. I use it to download into cachemate and map source, but I feel I am just scratching the tip of the ice berg. Thanks for the help
  10. We own a t5 palm. We own a garmin 276c, and a garmin 60cs. Can I download waypoints from my palm into our gps units? If so how, and what type of hardware (usb, cables) do I need to do this? Thanks for the help
  11. Odragon, You my friend are a genius. I had goofed with the number of characters a few days back and moved it up to 100. Last night I moved it back to 20 (it wont let me go to 10, and it gave me to move to 20 or leave unchanged) and wha-la, it worked. I loaded 27 at once and could have done more if I wanted. Thanks Scott
  12. odragon, idiosyncratic, That sounds like great advise. I just recently changed the characters to max from 10. And I do not know if my waypoint nametag is on % smart. I do not know how to bring it to an MPS file, I don't even know what that is. As for the Map source version, it is 6.2, I'll try to update it if they will let me. Thanks for the help. If you feel like getting back to me about the MPS file, I'll dig it.
  13. Hi, I have Map source that came with my Garmin 276c. We use it for both our gps's. It is a great program. Since I have been running pocket queries lately I download them into GSAK, then into my palm and Map Source. It seems though that I can only download nineteen way points into my gps (either one, the 276 or the 60cs) from Map Source. Has anyone else experienced this, and can someone offer advise? Thank you, The Saints (Scott)
  14. I've seen waterproof containers for the T5, here is a link for that web site. They may be universal for pda's www.thepocketsolution.com
  15. I have seen a few micro caches made from film canisters. Alot of these have official geocache logs in them. They are the long narrow ones that have numbered spaces for signatures and dates on them. I have not seen them on the geocaching web site though. How do we get them? Thanks, The Saints
  16. thank you, That is what I thought, but it is nice to have someone reaffirm that.
  17. Hi everyone, So far you people have been a great help on all my questions. I have another. When I try to download a page of waypoints, I am not getting the hints. If I get one at a time I do get the hints. What am I doing wrong. I have cachemate and use GSAK. I bring them in good with gpx like I said one at a time, but I would like to push "check all" and get the hints with them. I'll wait to read everyones good advise. Thank you, Scott
  18. I am a strapping 42 and valerie is a young 46. Geocaching has traditional, micro, etc. Perhaps geocachers should make a new type - adult only, still nothing nasty and drug free. Hic, excuse me..
  19. We are avid bird watchers and love to spot new (to us) birds. I have heard if you put a bit of salt and vinegar in a bowl, it tenders the ivory bill up enough to pass for buffalo wings. With the right barbeque sauce of course.
  20. I just bought the zire 31, and cache mate. I use easy gps, but will use gsak if I have to. I do not know how to put the information from easy gps or gsak into my zire. Someone please help me, and when you do talk baby talk with this, because I may not know all the terms and lingo. Thank you, Scott
  21. So if the screen is hard to see, should I check out the zire 21 instead? will it do the job? All I want is something to work and allow me to go wireless. I cant spend alot of money and I do not want to use ebay. I want new. Thanks
  22. I am looking for a PDA to use for my caching. So far the Palm Zire 31 seems to be the best buy at app $130. Any advise before I make this purchase? Thank you, Scott
  23. Stonedust is right on when he says comfort is the #1 thought. If you buy a yak because you got a deal on it, you may end up not using it due to a sore back or such. I rented alot of boats before we bought ours. Good luck.
  24. My wife and I each have Seaward Quest X3 kayaks. We bought those to grow into, but it seems like they are a bit much. Not too much to handle, but too much to bring along on a camping trip, or road trip. We are going to pick up a couple of smaller sit on top kayaks called "Ocean Kayaks". These are all around, not rapids kayaks. I live in Santa Cruz CA. and would love to have some kayak only caches. BRILLIANT! WHAT A GRAND IDEA
  25. I made a walking stick out of Bamboo. I found a large narrow piece and cut it just taller then the height of my arm at a 90 angle while standing. I bought a rubber cap that you would find on a cane, and put an old mountian bike handle bar grip at the top for comfort. After I had it for a while, I spray painted it to make it look nice. Best of all it was real cheap, looks good and works great.
