  1. Thank you! i will definately follow your advice once my tb actually arrives!
  2. When i was 11 (13 years ago) i had a pen pal that lived in Oregon (i am in New Zealand). We were connected through her father who was a part owner in the American company that employed my father over here. Any way she often wrote of her aspirations to travel and work with animals etc.... but was battling leukemia at the same time. Long story short her dreams of travel were stolen by cancer and she lost her battle in October 27 2000 aged 12 (barely - just a month past her birthday). I was thinking of connecting my first travel bug up to one of the tv beanie babies she sent me with a small description in a bid to try and have it travel far and wide as a tribute to an amazing young girl.
  3. i did both of those several times... in the end i totally uninstalled the app from the phone. Restarted the phone, then installed the app again as it did not charge me again to do this. Seems to have sorted it out. Fantastic app.
  4. There is a town here that once upon a time was a flourishing and well to do little village. With the local coal mines providing stable employment and generous income the families that lived here were all well to do. However as time passed and the coal was tapped out the jobs and money became less and less... the government purchased houses in the town from these families and sold them on as cheap as chips. Eventually the mines closed and the houses were sold and rented to people who couldnt give a rats about them. These days the houses that are left are owned by drug ruled hobos and the rest are creaky and falling apart with several burnt out places, a smashed up shop and over grown sections. It is now a ghost town - even the train doesnt pass through the town anymore. I went to find a cache there at night once - alone as well. I swore to myself that never again would i go there alone! you can seriously feel the eyes of all the druggies on you and the ghosts of the towns past inhabitants watching you. GC206DE is the code of the only cache in the town (surprise sunrise no one else has hidden there) here is a site about the town itself - which paints it as being more lovely than it is! http://www.westernsouthland.co.nz/pages/viewtown.php?town=4
  5. I purchased the app for my samsung galaxy s1900 and it was working like an absolute dream.... however the past day it wont open all it does is freeze my phone until a notification comes up saying it has had to force close it! what on earth have i done to it!
  6. Not as exciting as some of the others here... but my caching buddy and i were on a geocache roadie yesterday and visited a cemetary where one is hidden. directly under GZ was someones brand new credit card that hadn't even been signed and expiry for 2015... looked a tad suspect so we picked it up and called the banks call center when we got home. Sure enough the owner of the card had reported it stolen from his mail box! they instructed us to cut the card up and were about to call the owner to notify them someone responsible had found it and destroyed it.
  7. Its the middle of summer over here so pollen is rife and antihistamines are a welcome relief! Yesterday after work i decided to hunt for one en route to home which was located on a river side in a little forrest/bush walk with lots of long grass, flowers and trees. The cache ended up being trickier than expected with my gps playing up and provided clue being relevant to just about every tree and fallen log in a 30 metre circular radius! in the mean time i am fossiking away quietly and wham! the eyes start to water up - hayfever (regardless of the anti histamines). I finally found the cache etc and started to head home, long story short, I had to have someone come and pick me up as i had a contact allergic reaction to all the pollen my skin got exposed to and was head to toe in blotches and hives, eyes were almost puffed shut and my throat was tight and horrible. In short a simple caching trip turned out to be a nightmare!!!! A hospital visit and jab later and am all good - just not allowed to cache in long grass for a while! arrrg
