  1. My Oregon does! But for turn by turn you need to pay an extra $100 for a routable map or download one online (like I did) I won't give any suggestions, as the only GPSs I can honestly comment on start at $350 and go up to $550... If you get the Magellan eXplorist GC, then check this out!
  2. You're going to be outside, and that increases your chances of being killed, but you still increase your longevity unless you only do p&gs... Geocaching is no more dangerous than hiking on rocky trails...
  3. Oh sure, because it's so hard for a 12 year old to click the check box that says they're 18, do you have any idea how many people do that to play online games and such. Besides, how would they know that it was a young person unless they didn't check the box? Yes somebody could meet them as they go to check on their cache, but where's your proof that it wasn't the adult who hid the cache sending their kid off to check on it? I am planning on placing a cache within walking distance of my house. I am under 18, but I have a lot of time just sitting around doing nothing (look at my number of posts vs. how long I've been in this game) and would probably be checking on it a couple times a week. This is really no different than wanting people to not be able to hide a cache until they've found 100. Just because you're 18 doesn't mean that you're suddenly responsible, and it doesn't mean you're never responsible earlier. Just because you've found 100 LPCs doesn't mean you're any better than the person who's found 20 caches, each with their own unique style.
  4. I'm less likely to get a virus if somebody suggests a map that they use to me than if I browse randomly through the internet...
  5. That's completely incorrect. How can you say that? You haven't been caching a year yet, and only have 300 finds or so.. Now really, you've been caching for 8 years, you should know to put a sarcasm smiley by now...
  6. at the very bottom of the page you will see "There are more logs." followed by a link that says "View Them All on One Page". It will be just underneath the last log
  7. Either it's Magellan blaming GC for the problem so they don't have to cover it, or you put the files into the wrong folder, or your GPS doesn't support paperless. What was the file called (including the extension) If it wasn't GCxxxx.gpx (where the four xs can be anything) or you used a pocket query, you put the wrong file and it's your fault, not GC's or Magellan's...
  8. where are there more free canadian maps?
  9. I'm bored, and have been curing that boredom by downloading as many free Canadian maps as I can find onto my GPS... I've finished with gpsfiledepot.com and have maps from http://garmin.na1400.info/routable.php but I still have room on my memory card and I'm greedy and want more, preferably instructions on how to make my own...

    Cache sizes

What kind of light bulbs do you use??? The regular caches I find are about 5-10 times the size of a household light bulb, and I didn't think you could get much bigger...
  11. It would appear the second one was stolen, and the first is a puzzle cache so it's NOT at the coordinates shown.
  12. Avoid the following: 1. placing in commercial structures 2. placing in a building where GPS signal is blocked (most buildings) 3. placing without permission 4. placing in plain sight 5. placing in a dangerous area avoid these, follow the guidelines and don't make enemies of reviewers who hold grudges, and your cache will be posted
  13. That was why I posted, I thought Garmin would be smart enough that you wouldn't have to pay $60 for software to download maps from a program that they show how to make maps on... By the way, thanks. It worked.
  14. both. You probably don't actually know what to look for, and that makes it harder to find it. Your GPS is intended for automotive use, which means that it only NEEDS an accurate enough GPS to know which road you're on, therefore they often don't worry as much about inaccuracies on such GPSs. Combine these and it's no surprise you haven't found any. Try going to an event or caching with a friend who has cached before. Once you've found a container and know more or less what to expect, you shouldn't have too much trouble. Start with anything larger than a micro cache, as it's a lot easier to find a sandwich box in the woods than a film canister
  15. The hardest requires a space suit and a rocket... (Now accepting donations for me to find that cache)
  16. do delete the old caches, plug your GPS in, go to it's directory, select Garmin -> GPX then click the top geocache, then shift-click the bottom geocache, then press delete, then press OK in the window that pops up. You canload them onto your SD card. Try just putting them on directly, but if that doesn't work create a folder called Garmin on your card, then create a folder called GPX within that folder, then download the PQ to that folder. You need both of the files in your PQ, one of them is for the waypoints so you know where you're going, and the other is for the cache info so you know what to do when you get there.
  17. What file is the PQ in? is it over your GPSs memory? You've given only enough detail to know what OS you have...
  18. It took about 20 hours for me, but I didn't check my junk mail folder and only just saved them before the 2-day limit.
  19. No, a pirate probably won't do a 6-stage multi, but they might swipe the first stage or 2...
  20. To see what GC codes you've found, plug your Oregon into your computer. Go to the Oregon directory. Select the Garmin file. In the Garmin file, there should be a txt file called "geocache_visits". Open that and you will see all of the GC codes of your found caches, and the date you found them, and any notes you wrote about them.
  21. actually, the unundead are anything but undead, therefore unundead would be anybody who's dead or alive, just not undead... I think I'll stop, I'm getting confused. The un in undead means to be deprived of. If you where to deprive them of their undeath then they are unundead. This is not to be confused with becoming alive as it would revert one to a state before death negating the string. So the unundead are those who where undead before their current state of death. The geocaching forums at least are not for people prone to headaches...
  22. I have a map that is in kmz format. I would like to transfer it to my GPS (an Oregon 450), though preferably to the memory card as opposed to the actual GPS. I have only found one way of doing this, and it required a $60 or so payment to get software to do it. Is there any way of doing this for free without downloading something with a virus?
  23. No, you do not need to do this. I did. I could only get the folder I had to put the maps in by using mapsource for the first map. You can still put them on the card but mine at least won't recognize them as maps and thus will ignore them.
