  1. Hey Darren, was looking at your profile. That has to be some sort of record for the shortest time to 900 + finds. Nice job
  2. If I had to choose between golf or caching I would play golf everytime. I am a bit of a golf fanatic but also really enjoy caching. Living in Buffalo, golf season is short so caching gives me something to do when the snow starts to fly. Also being a parent , finding 5 hours on the weekend to get out of the house and play golf doesn't always work, but you can always find 45 minutes to go find a cache. It is also a great family activity which golf is not (At least while the kids are young). Golf is a little different since I have discovered geocaching. Now when I am in the woods looking for my ball, I find myself examining the trees and saying to myself, "that would make a good spot for a cache."
  3. Generally when I hide a cache, I try to add a bit of a twist to it. Thought this might be a good idea. I'm thinking now that the CD would be the way to go. Could save the message on the computer as a .wav file and if anything happens to the CD, it would be easy to replace
  4. I also considered putting both a casette and cd in the caches, so maybe that is what I will do. I was also wondering how it would work to put a cheap casette player in the first leg and the cacher could use that for each leg and return it to the first leg when they are done. Would just be concerned that it would get taken.
  5. Was thinking about putting out a multi that at each leg had a cassette tape that you had to listen to to get the next clue. Was wondering if anyone had seen this done and what they thought of it. You would have to bring your own cassette tape player, ie walkman. Was also wondering how many people still own a cassette player or had everyone upgraded to cd players??
  6. I would submit the cache 3-4 days before your anniversary and ask the reviewer not to approve it until the day of your anniversary.
  7. For me it doesn't really matter what is in the cache, I rarely take anything. The hide is more important to me. When my kids go, they enjoy taking things so if I had to recommend what to put in a cache, I would say anything that a kid would enjoy.
  8. Was wondering how the pics on the homepage of GC.com are chosen. Are they just randomly picked. Anyone have one of their pics make to this spot?
  9. When I got my son involved in the scouts, I thought we would be doing alot more hiking. That was kind of what I thought of when I thought of the boy scouts. I have had them out quite a few times which I probably wouldn't have done had it not been for geocaching. Took them out once to hide a cache for my daughters brownie troop. I agree that the boys wouldn't be too excited about simple hike, but "hiking with a purpose" will make them more excited. Planning to organize a CITO event for them this spring.
  10. Looking forward to your new series. I work and live in the town you are putting the series in so shame on me if I don't get a couple of FTF's
  11. I buy my cammo tape from ACE hardware. I think I have also seen it at walmart. Also could try Home Depot. I have just started using Lock n Lock containers and I don't cover them with anything. Personal preference.
  12. Include this with your rock and then you'll have something. Pet Rock
  13. Certainly within the rights of a cacher not to log on-line, although I really enjoy reading the logs of people that visit my caches. I do think that even non online-loggers should at least log when they are FTF. A simple log that says Got it, or FTF just to let the FTF hounds know it is no longer up for grabs.
  14. I would say that this comment is starting to speak the truth. I think the debate on this subject has been exhausted. I thank everyone for their support. As I know Geomaine will be reading this thread, just everyone respond with just a 1 word answer, Right or Wrong (Geomaines log), and then I will close this thread. Happy caching to all. wrong!
  15. Sure, Geomaine never said "I am not releasing this bug", however the assumption can certainly be made to that effect from 2 coments. #1 Following my first deletion of her log, she made the following comment and I am paraphrasing "My log must have hit close to home for Stickmonkey....hmmm, what to do." Certainly would make you wonder if she was going to release the TB. #2 The second comment was more convincing when she stated "If you leave up my orginal log for 2 weeks, I will then release the bug" Basic logic would tell you if the log gets deleted, then she won't release the bug. Again, my issue was not with her keeping the bug but with the comment.
  16. We are getting a bit off the topic here. My original complaint was for the log that Geomaine posted on the cache which bashed the boy scouts. Geomaine certainly had the right to her (Still not sure of gender, so to simplify things will say her from this point forward) opinion, but in extremly poor taste to make that posting on the cache page of 10 year olds. She then made some demands that I keep her log on the bug page for two weeks or she wouldn't release the bug. At this point, I considered the bug stolen because I had no intention on keeping that posting on the bug page. She later said she would release the bug, but the whole situation had aggravated me to the point that I told her to keep the bug. I will release a new bug with the scouts with the goal of heading West. The fact that she was holding the bug hostage was not really my major beef. The fact that she made a political statement on the bug page of 10 year olds was my major beef.
  17. However the person who finds your ten dollar is not playing a game and has no rules to abide by. Unlike geocaching where when you sign up for an account you are agreeing to abide by a set of rules.
  18. Is archiving a TB the same as marking it missing.
  19. Geomaine had now said that they will release the bug, but I replied to keep it. First of all, not sure if I believe her/him and second this will give me another opportunity to take these fine boy scouts back out geocaching. Don't want to give Geomaine the satisfaction.
  20. I have marked to bug missing and advised Geomaine to keep it after receiving his latest e-mail. Here it is: "We can talk about that, since they are the ones I'm worried about as well. I can only assume that you are either their scoutmaster or the father of one of the boys. You somehow don't support 'their' decision, as in the BSA, yet here you are... Allowing them to teach their 'values' to your young impressionable boys. It's obvious that you won't agree with me, but it's no different than if I had a boy than was ten in the KKK. It's your true moral responsibilty to speak your mind against it, to me directly. Had I had a group of ten year old KKK members release a TB in the name of their membership, you wouldn't even hesitate to pick up the TB and speak your mind to the owner of the TB owner... and THEN some. Obviously the ten year olds I 'have' are too young to know any better. Your captive audience is faring no better. Teaching respect for parents, teachers, the planet... All meaningless because in the same breath, they are teaching intolerance for an entire group of people. All of your gay friends, all of your gay co-workers, all of your gay relatives. You're clearly not thinking about them... But I am. You are not thinking about your ten year old boys when they become adults. I am. If you don't think that one or two of those twenty or so boys you have in the troup will grow up to be gay or have a gay sister, you are wrong. Yet, here you are. Starting their value system with this... This junk from the BSA. You are wrong to say that everyone is entitled to their beliefs and their prejudices. You are wrong. They are not. The BSA thinks that they are entitled to practice and ENFORCE their beliefs and their prejudices. They are wrong. They are not. Stop thinking about me or your TB. Start thinking about your boys and the lousy lessions they are learning from the BSA, directly or indirectly." I also received an e-mail from him comparing the boy scouts to the Nazi's, but won't bore you with that. Thanks for the support from everyone and a new bug will be released shortly.
  21. If you re-read my original post, I was simply asking for an opinion on whether I was overracting to the log on my TB. Judging from the number of responders that have agreed that I didn't overreact, my question had been answered. Also, an update to the Bug. I have decided to re-delete the log of the bugnapper which is in direct violation of his/her demands for the release of the bug. I will wait a week and if it is not released this bug will be archived and a new bug will be sent out. Oh, and its # 1 goal will be to stay as far away from Maine as possible.
  22. Yes, I too thought I was banned. I even went as far as signing up for a free dial up account to try to log in, but got same message. Must have something to do with the upgrade.
