  1. While I agree that you should/could delete the log of the person who threw down, I can't see any reason why you would want to delete the logs of anyone else who signed in it. They can't have known can they? They found a container with a log at ground zero. They shouldn't be punished for following the rules, especially is they didn't know it wasn't the correct container.
  2. Thanks! Only one digit off from my EFF4F9 but still not a perfect match. When I used the Firefox "Inspect element" tool, it says the background colour for that box is EFF4F9, or (239, 244, 249). That's grabbing it right from the source code. Yep, same here "#EFF4F9" What isn't matching?
  3. Did a cache owner say something to you about your posts?
  4. Most (if not all) of the state park caches are multi caches and this one certainly is. I haven't found this one, but I have seen some traditional style multis (each coordinate in a bison tube) and some are a field puzzle.
  5. I think it would be really useful to have an indicator on the field notes page if you have already logged the cache. Sometime I will log a cache on the GPSr but also will log it from my smartphone. When I upload my field notes it will show up again and if I don't remember which ones I logged in the field then I will double log the cache. Seems like it would be a nice addition to add a column to the field notes page and showing a smiley on the caches that are already logged. Thanks for the consideration.
  6. Wow... you must live in coin central. I can't think of more than 2-3 events in the last 2 years that had even specific geocoins for sale at them.
  7. Thanks. I see the change now. If you want, moderators, please go ahead and lock this thread.
  8. Didn't see any other comments about this so wanted to post about the change to the cache detail page and the removal of the "view map" link from the upper section of the page. I've alrady heard comments on our local board about it and I have to say it was one of the links I used most on the page. Now I have to scroll down well below the fold to click on the link to open the large map. It doesn't seem to have freed up any space on the page, so I wonder why this link was removed?
  9. If you use GSAK, there are several macros that generate very nice output for printing. Road Sheet I think is the one I like. Prints out a nice condensed listing with size, ratings, description and hints.
  10. Blackstar can import gpx files and let you see all the info. http://www.blackstarnavigation.com/
  11. Just look for the tracks in the snow I too am a first time winter cacher and was feeling pretty apathetic about it all. But have found it can be fun. Here's my advice (some of which assumes you are a premium member and can do pocket queries). Create a pocket query for some distance (I use 20 miles) from your home location, and limit it to "Found in the last 7 days". That will give you a good indication of it's winter findability. You can also create a pocket query for the same area with the "available in winter" attribute. Another suggestion is a PQ for hidden in the last week, if is was hidden in the last week, it ought to be findable. I use GSAK to load these PQs in and then I can slice and dice them the way I want. Dress warm. That's a common sense one, but it's important to remember. Cache with people. There is a good geocacher community in MN. You can check out the MNGCA site. There are regular weekly cache outings (Wednesday night caching). Go to events. Again, in MN and in particular the Twin Cities area there are lots of event. Breakfast Buddies, Flash Mobs, Coffee club. They may not be traditional caches, but it's fun to log them and chat with people. Work on some puzzles and some challenges. If you can't get out, try and solve some puzzles and then when you can, you have more caches to find. Think about and plan some hides. Scout out some locations, build some creative containers. It can be done.
  12. Here is what happens when I turn my back on my geo-son while looking for a pine tree cache. The shot doesn't show very well that he is about 15 feet up the tree.
  13. So I have 2 caches very close to my house along our daily dog walk route. Occasionally I will see a known cacher or someone I suspect of caching (tromping through the weeds near GZ) while we are out. What is the appropriate etiquette? Should I ignore them, give them a little ribbing ("Hey whatcha doin?"), wait nearby (but out of sight) till they head back to their car and then chat with them. My dog (named Cache) wears a cachekinz TB on his collar, so I always try to give them his code to they can discover him (if they want). So, what's the consensus, ignore them, talk to them, stalk them???
  14. The site has seemed slow the last few days. Nothing quantifiable but certainly seems to be.

  16. I've never even heard of souvenirs. Where do they show up?
  17. Nice. I see they're implementing User Notes on cache pages (!!) Not sure I get the point of this... will they show up in the gpx file or something? Not sure how useful
  18. I have 3 PQs that run everyday and for some reason 2 of them just have the link to the PQ page (which is all I need) but one of them has the zip file as an attachment. I can't seem to find any where in the PQ setup to disable this. Am I missing something? Should I just re-create the query and delete the old one?
  19. I think that this is my issue with the whole thing. I start to not even try looking for caches that have a number of DNF, as I am sure other people do. So strings of DNF, less people attempting to find it, but no one posting a NM or NA, the CO doesn't get any logs and another cache disappears (but not inactive) just by atrophy.
  20. Without quoting eveyone... Thanks for the clarification. From what I read, NM notifies the CO and NA notifies the Reviewer. This makes it much easier to make a good decision. Many DNF are just me and there are smileys on either side of my log, I understand that it's me and not the cache. But if I look, once or more, and there is nothing but DNF from me and others, then it's time to post a NM. Are people reluctant to post NM? I suppose no one wants to be the one that says NM to have the CO come back and say "Yep it's there". But at some point someone needs to step up don't they? I also like the idea of asking the CO for a hint or other direct contact. I can see the problem with every time you have a DNF trying to say it's because the cache is missing, but at some point, even for a > 2.5 cache, you have to start questioning if it is still there after only DNF. Thanks
  21. I'm sure this has been discussed before but I didn't have any luck finding anything. What is the right thing to do when you've looked for a cache and not found it and then when you post your DNF, the last 4 or more are also DNF? Or even notes saying "Any one know if it is still here". Do you post a need maintenance? That seems to imply to me that the cache was there but needs to be fixed. Maybe it's just really hard to find (though when some of the area's top cachers have dnf you have to wonder). Is this the place for "Needs Archiving"? That (at least) sounds a little harsh, or is that the proper mechanism request to the CO to confirm it's presence. Is it better to just direct message the CO. Or do you need to have the reviewer involved? Just looking for a little guidance. I don't want to post Needs Maintenance or Needs Archiving if that not appropriate, but I also don't like to post DNF for a cache that isn't there and I don't want the person after me to go through the same thing.
  22. The LOC file only has the name and the coordinates
  23. I bought a GC when they first came out (not knowing that they were brand new units) and after a couple of issues (requiring a replacement unit) I have really enjoyed it. Turning off the smart-arrow on the map makes the refresh a bit faster. I still use my blackberry with CacheSense on it for FTF stuff since I can load the gpx file on the fly, but I really like the GC.
