  1. Check ExpertGPS (the big brother to EasyGPS). It will do the maps in addition to the waypoints. I don't have ExpertGPS but I'm using MapSource Topo, which works pretty well once you figure out what to do with it. Also, you might check and see that you have the most common version of MapSource. You can download the newest version, which will give you some new funcitonality and icons. Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life, son!
  2. If I don't check the batteries on the GPS before I leave the house (I know that I put new ones in just yesterday ), then I can be assured of scrambling to find the cache before the GPS gives up the ghost. Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life, son!

  4. What a cool idea! I guess that you need to worry some about virii, but, then again, nothing ventured, nothing gained! Risk the virus-keep your anti-virus updated! Practice safe computing, Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life, son!

  6. You might just save the page, which will give you the graphics and text. Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life, son!

  8. This sounds like an interestin project. I wonder how many confluences have multiple "closest" benchmarks? Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life, son!

  10. I have an eMap and love it. I paid $178 (+ S&H) and thought I got a deal. Since then I have added MapSource Topo, a memory upgrade, and a RAM car mount, however, I wouldn't dream of trading the eMap! It is a great size, has the basemaps already on board, the reception is pretty good (comparable to the eTrex lines), the screen is bigger than the eTrex's, and it still fits in your pocket. For $100, it's a steal! For $100 + guaranteed DOA return, it's criminal!! Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life, son!

  12. Check out the MapSource demo on the Garmin Web Pages. My Mapsource gives street names, Highway names, county road numbers, and even jeep trails. Pretty accurate considering the numbers of oil field roads in NW New Mexico! Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life, son!

  18. Apparetnly, every time I do an OS upgrade or use MapSend I have to disable the Hot Synch manager. It's not a big problem, just a little annoying! Glad your update worked. Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life, son!

  20. If you are going to use a laptop in the car with the GPS you might want to consider the power/data cable. Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life, son!

  24. Try welders chalk sticks. They stick to metal (temporarily). After applying the chalk, rub the marker and the letters will have a little chalk left in them with the rest of the marker being "clean". We used to do this to find serial numbers on oilfield equipment prior to servicing. Non-destructive, effective, and cheap! Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life, son!
