I was thinking of sending it back to Garmin (the scratch is a deep and large one) but I can't do without my GPS for long. Funny how an item I barely knew existed a year ago has become so indespensible and not just for Geocaching. Sounds like a reason for another GPS (always need a backup, right?) 2. Cool! I knew that there was a real reson to take the GPS everywhere. I had to e-mail this link to my wife as a sort of told-you-so! Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life, son!

  6. NASA Liftoff Site is also pretty cool. This site shows a variety of satellites and when and where they will be visible Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life, son!

  8. I really like the MapSource Topos for my Garmin eMap. They show very good detail for NM, which is really at the end of the Earth, or at least lost somewhere between the US and Mexico. Also, the reception on the eMap has been superb. Of course, I can see over the top of most of the trees where I cache (all of the ones that haven't burned!) 10. But not in white! I couldn't get out of the house without making a mess of it, much less running around in the woods! Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life, son!

  12. Now that I have this valuable piece of information and a new mission for being outside gawking at the sky, I find that it is three days until there will be a predicted flare... Cool site! Another cool satellite site is NASA Liftoff site. This one give orbital tracks for a variety of satellites. Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life, son!

  14. I've discovered that Coronado wintered in New Mexico in 1540-41, elk live in the desert north of Albuquerque, an alleged UFO crash site (not in Roswell), and a couple of puebloan ruins that I ran across on the way to caches. It doesn't get any better than that! Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life, son!

  16. I've lost the car a time or two because I didn't mark the starting waypoint. I finally figured out that the the GPS will leave "bread crumbs" in the track logs. Now if the batteries don't give out! Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life, son!

  18. My longest loss streak is one cache, however, I've missed it three times. I keep going back after someone else logs it and I keep not finding it. I could ask the cache owner where it is, but that would be like asking for directions when my wife want me to... Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life, son!

  20. I'm using a fanny pack (with the twin water bottles). It has a large center pouch with a zippered outer pouch. It is big enough to carry my camera, monocular, cache goodies, crackers, and the compass. The GPS stays out so I can read it... I keep a canvas military surplus tool bag in the car which has all the cache supplies. I keep everything there and then load the fanny pack as local conditions warrant. 24. I picked up two caches the other day, which required about 1.5 mile walk each wawy. After I had done the first I found that for another 1 loop I could have picked up a third cache (couldn't do it because I was picking my wife up at the airport...). Anyway, it was great to be able to pick up two-three at once. The distances were such that they weren't right on top of each other, but close enough to be convenient.
