  1. Holy cow! I have been trying not to think about these too much so the time would pass, but May 11 is getting close! I am officially excited now. And once again, thanks Mike for all the work in putting this together.
  2. Funny you should mention Saul Raisin - I have been meaning to email you and mention him so you may share his story with Skye's parents. A day late and a dollar short...but I have been on vacation the past few days and part of what i have been doing is attending a few stages of the Tour de Georgia bike race. Saul is originally from Dalton, GA and took a parade lap at the start of a stage of the race from his home town the other day. He is actually ready to race again, but the powers that be want him to wait at least a year from when his crash was...coming up soon! Anyway, I didn't have any worthwhile geocoins to contribute to your auctions, but I did pick up something the other day that might be appropriate auction items. Email is on the way...
  3. My impending geotag will fit your criterion.
  4. +1 here...thanks so much to Mike for taking this project on. He rocks, and making a personal coin accessible to so many of us who otherwise couldn't afford it.
  5. In case you didn't before, my previously posted praise should indeed be interpreted as interest in obtaining a copy of this coin, by some means or another...
  6. The Great Wall and surrounding mountains are absolutely beautiful there! My only wish is that I could have seen it in the winter time, with snow on the ground/wall.
  7. Visit every cache in HK. Travel to USA then back to HK. Travel to any other country then back to HK. Travel to mainland PRC, and have picture taken with various bus drivers' and cabbies' dashboard busts of Mao. ;-)
  8. Are you going to do a run in stainless steel? I'll take 2 if you do...I'll even pay more since they'll be worth it .
  9. I am a die-hard Surefire fan, carry an E2D with me every day, everywhere. Needless to say, when I'm out caching and I need a light, day or night, it's there. I have simply resigned myself to the fact that batteries and their associated expense will be a part of my life now, and buy the 123's in bulk. I also keep a couple of Inova LED lights in my bag for when a bit less light is needed...an X5, X1, and a pair of microlights (one white, one red). I have been a fan of red LEDs for quite some time now; if you need just a little light for a moment at night you can't beat red...it won't affect your night vision nearly as much as white light will. The Night Ize LED conversions are great for 2-AA Mag Lights, unfortunately they have quality issues. It's not uncommone to get one with a malfunctioning switch unit. Great when they work, though. In addition to longer battery life, another beneift of LED lights is the "bulb" will effectively never burn out.
  10. I find a lot of smashed penny designs will look great on old, patina'd pennies that have been given a quick polishing with a cloth...brighten the high spots but leave the dark in the nooks and crannies. Keeps the penny design very, very well-defined after smooshing.
  11. The 2006 coin was just beautiful! I would like to get one or two of the '07 as well, depending on finishes.
  12. I wasn't active on this board when this announcement came out so I missed the pre-orders. If this project is still going and more orders are okay, I'd like to get one...regardless of the price!
  13. I'd love to be considered for one if there are any left after you make it through your current waiting list! Thanks!
  14. Do you need larger artwork of my font to send to the mint? or can they re-examine the blueprint based on what they already have?
  15. You need a brush-up in lunar astrophysics Yes, the moon revolves once every 29.something days, exctly the same period as its orbit around the Earth. The net result is one side is always facing the sun, and one side (the dark side) is always facing away. From Earth we see the whole moon, both the daylight side and the dark side - this is how the phases of the moon happen (full moon = seeing the entire daylight side, new moon = seeing the entire dark side, half-moons seeing half-daylight and half-darkside, etc). Shifting gears to the copyright issue...ethics aside, this may be an example of "it is better to beg forgiveness than ask permission." *IF* any of Floyd's "people" were to get wind of this coin, and *IF* that led to lawyers being involved, the likely outcome would be a cease & desist letter. Don't mint any more. It's up to the OP whether his ethics allow him to make the coin in the first place...e.g. "tribute" or "rip-off"...
  16. I didn't really choose my first find, so much as it chose me. I picked one close to my house (perhaps the closest at the time), went out and had a look, and found...nothing. Tried for some "easy" sounding hides not too far away after that....found nothing. I was starting to think this game wasn't going to be as easy as it looked at first LOL. Went back, re-read the descriptions and logs, acted on the lightbulbs that went off in my head, found a few and caught on. The one I tried for first ended up being about my 4th or 5th find.
  17. Glad to see an apology. Somewhat dismayed to see it was about as heartfelt as any Pete Rose has managed. Sign of the times, I suppose.
  18. I Know they aren't pure copper, but a very high-copper alloy. It is my recollection that when they switched to the plated zinc coins in '82 the cost to produce was over $.01, and sometime thereafter the actual value of copper in the coin approached and then exceeded $.01. I could be wrong, but like I said that's my recollection.
