The point I am trying to make here is that GPSr seem redundant. we all know that it doesn,t transmit a signal . nor does a tv or a car radio. but, we don't include the word reicever in everyday conversation when speaking of tv or radio. I was just curious how the term came about. I use Automatic Position Reporting System. (APRS for short) in ham radio. It uses a two-way radio and a gps to report my position which is mapped to street level so other hams can see where i am. it can also message other hams if needed. it also reports speed, heading, and altitude. it gets this info from the gps unit. How did the term GPSr come about? I have used a gps for years in ham radio and have never seen them called GPSr's untill i found geocaching. we dont call them TVr's or RADIOr's It's a given that it is a reciever so why tack the "r" on the end. color me curious. skillett

Yup, and he seems to have made it. seems that I have opened a can of worms here . i was trying to make the point that my first post here was met immediatly by an flame by mopar for cross posting i was shut down by co admin for trying to post a joke as a reply to someones post. because co admin did not agree with my sense of humor and mopar butted in in with his 2 cents worth .i was a newbie at the time in these forums and did not expect to be trounced upon like that. so forgive me guys, for being brought down to the level of debaseing another person here in these forums 10 hail marys and 20 our fathers on me! Charles Taylor! this might explain it . it from the arrl solar activity update. it also affects ham radio thats why we monitor it. Solar activity stayed about the same this week compared to the previous period. Average daily sunspot numbers declined slightly from 32.1 to 28. There weren't any disturbed days. Expect solar flux to stay above 100 for the next 10-12 days. Recurring coronal holes could cause a mild geomagnetic upset around January 2-3. Geomagnetic Institute Prague predicts unsettled to active conditions January 2 and 3, unsettled conditions December 31, January 1 and 4, and quiet to unsettled conditions on January 5-6.
