  1. When I orginally donated I figured $30.00 a year was nothing for the amount of enjoyment I have gotten from Geocaching and still feel the same way. I am fairy sure there are more than 95 of us left.
  2. For GPSr's we used a Garmin Etrex Legend that was purchased in 2001. In 2012 we obtained a Garmin Etrex 20 to replace the legend that doesn't work any more.
  3. I pre-ordered the Etrex 20 on Amazon today. It says they will be released October 4th. I am looking forward to the upgrade from my 10 year old original Legend that randomly gets a blank screen with a line across the screen when I am using it.
  4. The cache owner gets an email whenever someone make a log on their cache. You don't need to email the owner in addition to logging the find. Paul
  5. Ham radio is more popular than you think and has been around for better than 90 years. Paul
  6. We don't take a whole lot with us. I don't see the need to wear a backpack for going a mile or so. If we can't carry it or put it in our pockets it stays in the truck. On an ordinary day. 1. GPS 2. Cache Sheets 3. Digital Camera 4. Cell Phone 5. Amateur Radio HT crossbanded through the mobile on a local repeater. 6. Pens 7. Trade Items 6. A Wisconsin Atlas (When in Wisconsin of Course ) 7. Water if a long walk (And I mean a long walk) In the winter we need to add boots to that list I guess. If going out of town for a day or so we usually take a laptop to log finds and check cache listings with a cell phone.

A simple search on google gave me: http://www.indianageocaching.com/
  8. Etrex display repair That link has the " taken out of it.
  9. We were not able to get a travel bug going right away so me mailed it to California to a friend to put in a cache. Worked out quite well. Rabid Rabbit
  10. Our first cache was a tupperwear container. That didn't last too long before some creature wrecked it. We now use 2 different sizes of ammo cans for caches. Nothing has wrecked one of those yet. I like the idea of using PVC pipe. We will have to try that on our next one.
  11. Thank god there are no killer snakes in Northern Wisconsin!
  12. Another way to find local cachers is to see who is placing caches in your area and looking at who is finding caches in your area. Usually it is the same people finding local caches first who lkive in the area. That's my idea anyway. Seems to work up in Northern Wisconsin.
  13. We always place our caches before getting approval. We usually write the coordinates on the cache with a paint marker and put aything else we need on the cache when doing maintenence.
  14. We use paint markers on our caches.
  15. We ended up getting a second GPS because who ever did not have it would get perturbed becasue they did not know what was going on. It works out great having 2 units.
  16. For some reason we have been giving away rubber ducks and dog bone shaped carbiners. That's what happens when the other half gets a hold of a catalog. We have came across magnets, buttons, cards, and all sorts of other items.
  17. I just read basically the same thing at http://www.eham.net/articles/6816 Things sure get around. Paul

    Microcaches

I think microcaches are fine if they're bringing the hunter to a neat area. I guess with me, I either want cool toys or a cool area. If it's a microcache with obviously nothing to exchange and NO scenic or real value to where it is hidden, then I think that sucks. We have someone in our area who hids a microcache at every wayside. One or two particularily interesting waysides would be fine, but I find a micro at every one is excessive.... Wendie === http://geocaching.kb9tyc.com/
  19. We use them for getting Medical Helicopters to accidents. === http://geocaching.kb9tyc.com/
  20. 4 POP UPS WHEN I CLICKED ON THAT LINK. WOW!! LOTS OF INTERESTING STUFF THOUGH. === http://geocaching.kb9tyc.com/ [This message was edited by Paul & Wendie on November 12, 2002 at 02:59 AM.]
