  1. Just my two cents bit one thing to consider is if you are going to be able to use your phone in the area you plan to cache. I've been out of this fora few years but am getting back in to it The last two weekends the wife and I have gone out and driving up in the mountains we had no cell service for a majority of the caching. We still have our old Garmin 60cs that we use as our back up to the iPhones. I made the mistake yesterday of not uploading a pocket query of Lake Don Pedro when we ran out there. Sure enough we had no reception (no Verizon towers) on the north or east side of the lake. We had to back track several miles to get reception back which burned both time and daylight.
  2. That is exactly what I mean! Now if I wasn't going to a wedding that day I'd be all over that. Need to find another one lol Thanks!
  3. Curious if anyone has ever put on a geocaching contest mixed with rally style racing? Would be very cool to do something like this. Get a bunch of people together and have a huge race Where each team must find say color coded travel bugs before crossing the finish line.
  4. CacheBerry itself doesn't require Windows. It's the CacheBerryDesktop.exe tool that requires windows. You can copy the .gpx file to the blackberry and import the caches from there and not have to use CacheBerryDesktop tool. Yeah I did that right before we left. Thanks for the info Used GeoJournal for the GPS and Cacheberry for the phone. Great combo! Now I need to read up on my GPS as its not holding very many caches
  5. I saw the thread about Cacheberry but it requires Windows. Is there another paperless program I can use on my BB Curve and with my Mac?
  6. I've been out of Geocahching for a long time and am getting back into to it today. I have Geojournal and a list of caches that need to be listed as found. How can I take the list of found caches out of my Garmin 60CS and upload them to the Geojournal? And will it load them to the website or do I need to manually set each cache to found?
  7. Well I finally made the switch to Mac and couldn't be happier.. except now GSAK doesn't work.. What are Mac users using instead GSAK?
  8. Another place to look at is www.getfeetwet.com They have great prices!
  9. Well since the 60CS is selling BRAND NEW for 348 what's reasonable to you?
  10. That is not a gps link and that ebayer doesn't list a GPS. May want to check on the item number.
  11. Those are nice prices but I'm on a fixed budget so I need to find the cheapest price out there.
  12. Ok looking to upgrade from my Etrex Vista to either the 60CS or the 60CSX. The best price I've found so far for the 60CS is 348 at Compuplus.com but I haven't had to much luck with the 60CSX. Reading the posts about the better sat lock wit hthe 60CSX makes me lean towards that more but price is definately a factor.
  13. Ok I'm in the same boat as you as I'm just starting out paperless too but let me tell you that its 1000000000000000000000 times easier!!! This is what I did. Downloaded GSAK - Download Cachemate (Pay the fee its worth it!) - Hotsync Cachemate to Palm Now once this is done you have the programs needed to start caching paperless! What I do if I want to take individual caches is the following: 1. Find cache I'm looking for 2. Get the GPX on the cache page 3. The GPX file should be opened automatically by GSAK if not go to the folder where you downloaded the GPX file and click on it to have GSAK open it. 4. To send waypoint to gps go to GPS (at the top) then send waypoint 5. To send the cache info to Palm go to FILE then EXPORT 5a. Under EXPORT you will see Cachemate PDB file click on that and it will save it for when you hotsync next. **BAM** You have yourself a cache ready to go find! NO GO FIND IT!!!! I hope this helps.. I read somewhere that there is a Cachemate hel parea but still being new I'm still learning. ETA - How's Nashville? I haven't lived there since 95 but I find myself missing it every once in a while!
  14. Ok I have Plucker / Spinner and really like the layout so far. Now one thing I noticed was that I did a pocket query for a trip we are taking but as luck would have it we aren't going now until tomorrow and I want to download some local caches. Does Plucker / Spinner only work with pocket queries? I was going to make another query but you only get them once a week. How do I download individual caches or a second group now??
  15. After reading geocaching university i downloaded plucker and spinner. Got me thinking though.. how do you send individual caches to my palm with plucker? And which is an easier setup plucker or cachemate???
  16. So I came home today to look up some caches for a small trip with the family when I noticed there are no more icons when I bring up the map screen.. DidI do something wrong or is this a problem with the website??
  17. Wow the Magellan Explorist 500 is only 299.99 there.. Thats a great price! Let us know if you go with them.
  18. I'm hoping I'm just doing something wrong but I have the Garmin Etrex Vista with the latest update and can't seem to locate satelites with it. I have brought it out three times in the last two weeks and can't get a signal to find any caches. I was curious because each time I've attempted to cache was around 2 - 4 AM. Do the type of batteries used make a difference in the strength of the signal? I can't imagine that the time of night would have any affect on the unit. Last night I took it out nad was trying for about 2 - 3 hours and couldn't get a signal to save my life. The sky was clear and I had the unit outside facing the sky. I'm starting to get a little frustrated!
  19. Just thought I'd post this question cause the search feature isn't working for me and I can't find anyhting on this. Just getting into this and was curious if there are many or any caches that are hidden in the back woods that require going 4x4ing to get to them? A bunch of friends and I are just getting into this and thought this would be a great way to integrate the two.
  20. Doesn't really work that way.. If the unit was in fact stolen and the victim of the theft had the serial number and then reported it to the police then the police could enter the unit with serial into the stolen property database. Once that is done then the unit could be retrieved as stolen property. Until that happens then you have to take it at face value. But then I was just curious in the first place..
  21. Ok I'm sure this is a silly question and maybe asked a thousand times a day but here goes. I have the Garmin etrex Vista and was told in another thread that the unit has to be held flat facing the sky to receive sats easier. Now for the question.... Are all GPS like this? And do some receive better / faster than others?
