  1. I personally avoid doing the so called "Play Ground Caches". Hunting SOLO and being a male I always avoid doing the caches near the play ground. If I pull up to a cache site and know it will be a play ground cache I will just drive right on by without stopping. It is sad that the world has become so paranoid. If you do place this cache please do advise what type of area that it will be in so others can decide for themselfs if it something they want to look for.
  2. I have used the NM log twice. Once because when I found the hide I inadvertently pushed it out of reach. The other time was for a wet log that had been noted for several months by other cachers. I have also used the SBA log a couple of times after not finding the hide and looking back through the previous logs of no finds for 6 months or more. Of the times I used the SBA log the owner had not visited Geocaching.com for over a year and had obviously abandoned the hide. I use the DNF log if I do an intensive search for a cache not just a casual glance.
  3. Thanks Jeremy for fixing PQ computer. I received the queries that I ran this morning at 1:45pm EDT.
  4. I have been on a few Geocaching Road trips with other cachers. Many of them use laptop computers with mapping software and a GPS unit attached to the laptop. So the computer shows exactly where they are at. Now I haven't actually been involved with the planning and routing of the trips. But it take a little bit of advanced planning. Say you are going to Florida. You would have to run Queries on several cities along the route and then using GSAK or some other program, load your waypoints into Streets and Trips or some other mapping software. Don't ask me how because I don't know. After that you can set up the route that you want to take and add stops (cache locations) along the way. I'm sure other cachers with more experience will add alot more information than I could. Just hang in there and help will shortly be on the way. Good luck with your route planning.
  5. No PQ for this morning. I set it up around 8am Eastern Daylight time and now it is almost 10:30am EDT and still hasn't ran. These are new PQ's not ones generated on a daily basis. I was able to run a PQ yesterday morning so I will only be using 24 hr old data. Oh well at least I can go caching!!!!!
  6. Interesting article, but the reporter got it wrong about Geocaching. TheChronicleHerald.ca Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunt that uses a Global Positioning System to find buried caches. It just seems everytime they write about Geocaching the reporters always gets something wrong. WE DO NOT BURY CACHES!!!!!! Latter

Here is one of the gc#s that he listed earlier. It seems to be in the Denver Colorado area. So if there is someone close at hand give him a personal e-mail with contact info. Maybe you can get together and help this person get started with this terrific game of Geocaching. For the OP don't get frustrated, contact one of the local cachers that hides caches in your area. Maybe they can help you out. Good luck with your new adventure. Kayak-Cowboy Pekin, IN.
  8. I used to drive a 2003 Siverado 4x4 ext. cab short bed. But now I have graduated to a much more versitale machine. Now I drive a 2006 Jeep Wrangler 4x4. YEP!!!!! It's a Jeep thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. I'm not familiar with your area, but I do have a suggestion. Maybe you can make a three stage multi-cache out of this with the actual final stage at the place you have permission for a container. Have the start point at one of the locations where you have to do some caculations from a sign or counting windows to come up with coord's to next stop. Then do again at the second stage to get to the last. So the only container will be where you have permission for the hide. I'm sure if the stages are to far apart it might not be approved. But it might just get what you are trying to accomplish.
  10. Welcome to the life of a Geocacher. I know for a fact that this can happen to the best of us. On one trip in a local park, I was searching for a cache just 60ft off trail. After looking for a while without finding it, I took another 30 min just trying to find the trail. Yep just 60ft away, but in what direction? Know I have learned to mark where I park and where I left the trail, JUST IN CASE!!!! Don't let one bad experience deter you from Geocaching. It is quite fun once you get the hang of it.
  11. I just want to clearify my earlier post. GSAK will not automatically show your finds without running a PQ for your found caches. Just running PQ's for unfound caches will not update what you had found they just won't show up in the PQ. GSAK is an excellent program and I appreciate all the hard work that Clyde put into this program. Keep up the great work Clyde.
  12. GSAK will not do that automatically. You have to run a pocket query from Geocaching.com and then load it into GSAK. Now Geocaching.com has a query that you can run every 7 days just for your finds. Go to the build pocket query and there is a link for the found query. After receiving the query in your e-mail just download it into GSAK just like any other query that you receive. Hope this info will help.
  13. I don't know about you but I could not tell if any one was a geocacher in any of the photos that was shown as an example. Here in my area, there was a new web cam posted where the cacher would have to identify themselfs by making a human X with their body. This was done because the web cam shot was to far away to identify the cacher. Maybe you could do something like that to help get it approved. Just a thought. Good luck with the cache.
  14. In my opinion "NO TRESPASSING" means "NO TRESPASSING". And as for the question about the streams. Not all streams and waterways are open to the public. You need to check your local laws to find out what is and is not open to public use. I know in my area there has been caches put out along some country roads where it is wooded. Now I would question whether or not these caches are actually on private property. Just because there is a stand of woods on the side of the road does not mean it is our playground, it probably belongs to someone.
  15. By using the nearest search I have to go to page 51, 27.9 miles away before finding a whole page without a find. I have 465 finds................ Of course I can filter out my finds and go to page #1. But that is not what you asked about......................
  16. My story is pretty simple. I have been riding horses for 5 years, and now I have started kayaking within the past year. Both sports is a lot of fun. Know I just have to figure out how to attach the GPS to the saddle. That will cut out a lot of walking. Woods caches is the best. Although I will stop for any and all that show up on my GPS.
  17. I use a Palm Zire 31, with Cachemate and GSAK. 16mb expandable with SD card to further my options. Holds over 1000 caches with all the info needed. Since my Legend only holds 1000, This is all I need.
  18. I for one am glad to see the reviewer publisher icon. If for some reason you have a problem with a cache hide: ex: private property where there is a no trespassing sign is posted. Then you have someone to contact after you go through the normal process of contacting the cache owner. For istance today I had gone to a cache which was 200 ft beyond a 'NO TRESPASSING' sign. I log a note to owner, and a little while latter I received an e-mail saying my log was deleted by owner. The owner did however post a note to come at cache from a different direction. This I don't understand No Trespassing means No trespassing regardless of what direction you come from. I will check this alternate directions before complaining to a reviewer of situation.
