  1. There's one at the south pole, I would call that difficult. I can't remember the page though... I'll look for it. Lynx EDIT: Here it is South Pole
  2. I made mine in Microsoft Publisher, you could easily do it in Paintshop Pro also. If you have a decent printer, print them on Photo Printer Paper. EDIT: Not this is a screen shot, and it show borderlines and 'misspelling' lines that don't show up in the printing.
  3. Harry Dolphin - If I'm ever in the NJ area, I'll pick 'em up, you can count on that! Arkville - My wife has access to a 'Brass plate stamping thingy' which allows me 8 lines of 24 characters on steel or brass plates. I'm thinking of doing a 10 tag Beta-Bug and try tracking them on my own. If it works out, I'll mold my own coins (I'm thinking of calling them 'TraveLynx') I think that travel bugs that Groundspeak sell are great, and if they included a way to pay by money order, I'd be all over it. As for EBay, I'm leary about buying anything that requires a serial number or activation code from there. I realize that 99.9% of the dealers on their are legit, I just seem to get the cons. Plus I'm a hands on kinda guy! Chstress - There's one coming up soon near my area, that I would love to go. I'll try, but not having a car kinda makes things a bit harder Thanks for your replies! I appreciate it! Lynx
  4. Mine came from My love of all felines, but I love the Lynx most of all. But it never fails, someone always takes the name Lynx before I do, so I added 'Silver' to it.
  5. Step by step? Allrighty, the next time I make something, I'll take pics. Might be a while, Christmas hit me in the wallet hard this year. Lynx
  6. Talk about looking for a needle in a haystack! those things are tiny! Tell the truth they look like painted over flashy light thingies they sell at fairs and carnivals.
  7. I hear you there. There are so few caches in my area (walking distance - 8 miles) I would have only taken 1-2, but..... I have my first 2 caches, ready to hide, sitting next to me here, just waiting for the weather to clear. I want to kick Connecticut in the butt, and get them caching! I unfortunately cannot purchase Geo-coins or TB's online (no credit card) I'm gonna end up making my own and try to set up a tracking page. Lynx
  8. It you're any good with carving, carve your coin out of wax, pay attention to any detail on the front, leave the back blank. Now take a 1/2 pint milk carton and fill it with a prepared plaster mixture (follow the directions on the bag). Smear a very light coating os vaseline on the wax coin, and place it detail side down in the plaster. do not submerge it, you want to be able to get it out. When plaster is set and hardened, remove the wax, and now you have a mold. You can use a variety of stuff to make the coins, but I prefer LEAD FREE silver solder. I cut small pieces of solder and add them to the mold, and then use a pencil torch (or my propane torch) to melt the solder. I'll add more solder to fill the mold, wait 20 minutes for it to cool, and then carefully remove the coin (in my case little trinkets). You can then use the empty backside to inscribe tracking numbers. This is a cheap way of doing it, but if you like working with your hands, its satisfying. Hope this helps, Lynx
  9. DOH! I could have snagged 5 of them.... Ahh well Maybe next time! Lynx
  10. Thanks! I appreciate the response! If I'm ever down your way, I'll be sure to move a couple TB's along! Thanks again Lynx
  11. I don't believe that there are any virus' for GPSr's. PDA's is another story, same with cell phones. For a GPSr virus to infect your GPS, it would have to infect the firmware file on your system (and it would need to be specifical written for that purpose) and then you would need to update your firmware. Too much trouble, too much hassle, it could be done, but it would be pointless.
  12. I was looking for a way to update the firmware for my Magellan Gold without using the PC cable (could never get that dang thing to work, found a way around it in the Magellan FAQ 2.0) As I was searching, I stumbled on to this site. I was immediately intrigued. I made my first find with my children on a trip to western NY, and we were hooked, had my wife with me for the second one, and she was hooked. And the rest is history.
  13. Geo-Noob here, still learning the ropes. I was recently on a trip to western NY, and found a number of Caches out there. Later on, others visited the same sites and left TB's in them. I really wanted to bring at least one back with me to Connecticut, but they were placed after I had found the caches, so I left them alone. My question is: Did I do the right thing, left them where they were? or Since a travelbug's destiny is to travel, should I have picked one up and moved it another 450 miles and dropped it off in my state? What would you do?
  14. LOL! On occasion I'll turn on the oven to help heat the house in winter, so its all good. Well maybe its not such a great idea, but it can't hurt, and the things are pretty much free (though you can buy them in bulk) It was a thought. Lynx
  15. Hello all, Forum newbie here... I searched the forum and haven't found any posts on this topic, so I thought I would share. Silica Gel packets come in many things, shoes, medicine, clothing, etc. Most people throw them out without a second thought. These little packets were designed to absorb moisture, and come in many different shapes and sizes. My idea (and I'm sure others have come up with ot too) is to add 1 or more to your micro/small caches to keep the logs dry. Granted, they only absorb so much moisture, and really wouldn't help if the cache isn't watertight or is already waterlogged, but it will help against condensation and might be the difference between a dry log or a log with pages stuck together and smeared ink. Carry a few with you the next time you do cache maintence, or drop one in a cache the next time you go caching. Just my 2¢ Lynx
  16. I'm also a lurker, actually I just started geocaching, and was amazed by the amount of geocaches in Buffalo, NY. I'm kinda disappointed in the number around my area in Connecticut, so I am planning on planting a few. I guess this is my introductary post. Hello everyone! Lynx
