  1. Could some one tell me what PAF means please.
  2. I would like to thank you all for the advice. Have now posted a needs maintenance log for this cache.
  3. Thanks for that, will take on board. Other advice seems to be post a Needs Maintenance log first, so may do that and if no joy I will post a needs archiving log. Thanks again

  5. A cache, "In The Night Garden" I visited recently looks as though it has been muggled. Several people have been to it and not found it. I Emailed the owner about this and several other matters relating to their caches but got no response. I would like to know how best to report such a cache and how to get it archived so no more people waste their time? Thanks
  6. I do re-calibrate compass quite regularly just to confirm co-ordinates near a cache. It just seemed strange that on some hunts I can be walking along a path with the compass pointing in the direction of travel and then when I get to a junction the compass changes from straight ahead to point along the path I need to take. Maybe just a fluke. Thanks.
  7. Here I am again folks, more questions than answers. While out hunting the elusive geocaches I seem to find that the compass on my GPSr (Oregon 300) leads me around a course, like going point to point. Then on another occasion it will just point directly at the cache and let me make my own way there. I don't know that I have explained that properly. I have seen in some of the guidance, references to hidden waypoints and child waypoints. Could it be that when some people put out a cache they add extra waypoints along the route as if to lead you by the nose at each turn and others just put the co-ordinates to the cache in? I haven't got around to putting out a cache yet, but am thinking of doing so quite soon. Before I do I would like to know how best to plot the route to my cache. Guidance please from any caching gurus? Thanks P.S. Is it possible to log multiple waypoints in my GPS enroute to the GZ and send them to geocaching.com for inclusion in my cache listing?
  8. They don't disappear. Connect the data cable and then anvigate to the "Garmin" folder on the GPS. Your found caches are in the "Geocache_visits.txt" file. What has happened is you overwrote the existing PQ file on your Oregon. This removes the caches so you don't look for them again. If your PQ didn't have the found caches in it then they will no longer show up on the GPS but they still exist as found in the Geocache_visits file. Thanks for that info. I have had a look and the found caches are in the visits text file as you said. I would have expected my new PQ to show my found caches as well. Is there any way of reinstating the found cache list? Or possibly, a better question would be, is there any need to? Thanks

  10. Can anyone tell in which file on my Oregon 300 my found caches are kept? They were all there on my GPSr "Show Found" button until I uploaded the latest GPX Pocket Query to my Garmin a few minutes ago, now it is only showing three found caches. As anyone any idea what I might have done and how to recover found cache data? Thanks.
  11. Thank you all for your responses. I will take on board what you have said. Regards Go Geo Ferret
  12. As a new user could some one tell me if it is possible to select several caches and from that selection find out how far the walk would be. The reason I ask is that my mum and grand children come with me sometimes and it would be nice to know how far they had to walk before deciding on coming or not. Thanks.
  13. Thank you all for your advice. Will know what to do next time.
  14. grab it from them, drop it where you got it then retrieve it so it gets its miles. Thanks for that. I can see that this is possibly the best option. Thanks for taking time to respond.

  16. As I am quite new could some one explain how I should proceed. I have been out caching today and found 2 travel bugs in in two different locations. I have logged the cache finds but not sure what to do about the TB's. When I search for them they show up as being in the hands of another cacher. Do I have to wait until this person has logged them into the cache where I found them? Do I grab them from them? Do I add the said TB to my watch list and update my log later? I just don't know what to do.................... One of the TB's was picked up and dropped off near the same location, but I cannot log it as found or drop it off because it is still showing as being in the hands of another. This is probably bad practice on my part, because I didn't know what the TB's mission was until I looked on the net later in the day, after getting home.
  17. Is the motivation for this so that you know not to send it to your GPSr again if it is already there? No clean solution to this - especially since behavior might depend on the GPSr you have. But you can work around the problem if you use 3rd party tools like GSAK to manage your offline database. I've been sending things to my garmin twice, and it just overwrites the first one, no problem. Thanks for info. I think I have it figured out now. To download multiple caches I have set up a pocket query and I can also upload a field notes text file from my garmin oregon 300 which lets me review and log all the finds since my last upload. Thanks once again to you all
  18. OK, I must admit I hadn't thought of that, its a great bit of advice for me as a newby. Thanks Regards

  20. OK that's great. At least I know not to look any further for an answer. Thanks
  21. Thanks a lot I am just trying that now. Should save quite some time Best regards
  22. If it can hide the ones you have found I assume it can hide the ones you have downloaded? or maybe not thats why I am asking. Thanks
  23. When viewing caches on google maps I am able to select one and then download the gpx file directly to my connect Oregon 300. However when on geocaching.com it allows you to, "select all" but when you download it doesnt go to my gps but downloads a .loc file. What am I supposed to do with that type of file? Am I supposed to copy it into my garmin manually? Please Help Regards to you all GoGeoFerret
  24. Is it possible to hide the caches that you have already downloaded to your gps when viewing on google maps? Thanks GoGeoFerret
