  1. I used to be an electricians helper for a spell. sounds like it just a different design of lightpost. I don't think for a minute that walmart would be so worried about geocaches to petition the lamppost makers to design a new skirt design and change manufacturing so they can cut down on the number of caches. case in point is the ban on overnight truck an camper parking. you still see them parked there. Erik
  2. I don't agree. to me it is like logging an event cache. you get a smiley just for showing up. I have a pocket cache that i carry to the events I go to. Of all of the people that have pocket caches that are not archived most will tell you that if you find it in the wild you cna log it again. At my most recent event there was an old waspnest that had a nano in it. it was hanging in one corner of the building. it wasn't advertised but for those of us who found it the owner told us to log a find. when he hid it in the field he emailed us and told us that if we went and looked for it we could log it again. why? because we acutully found it twice. once at the event and once in the field. As far as pocket caches go for the most part you have to ASK if there is a cache in their pocket. to me that is looking for the cache. anyway, just my thoughts. erik
  3. recent trip from florida to North Carolina. cached all the way. note. I use my cellphone to get online.
  4. nevermind. I was going to comment on the soil sample fight but it was not going to change anything so I erased it.
  5. Thank you everyone for all of the great ideas. we went with Knit1Cache1. it is a play on a a knitting term.
  6. My wife and I are combining accounts but we have no idea what to call ourselves. We live in central florida, have have 2 kids, Erica(my wife) likes to knit and I, well like to cache. As you can tell from my current geoname I have no creativity in this matter. I will consider ALL submissions. Thank You erikwillke
  7. I don't know how many other people i speak for but for the love of pete.... who cares. We're cachers, not cops. we all know not to bury a cache. I'd like to see more pictures of caches. thank you.
  8. There is only one bolt holding that one foot block in place, it just holds it against the actual backer, the post in the ground. So long as that spacer (that moves) is in place, in an impact situation, it will still serve its purpose. Those are loose anyway, only one bolt holds it in place, when you only have one 1" bolt, the member not in the ground is freewheel (can turn on bolt). See the nuts on the single bolt on the back of the members that are in the ground? I think it's clever, maybe dangerous a bit being on a roadside, but that's not really an issue, just not very kid friendly. no, most of them freespin if they aremoved away from the upright. if not heat and cold and water swelling would cause stress (central fl gets really hot) to answer another question, no i didn't tighten the nut, i simply moved the block flush with the upright. since nothing is in perfect allignment it fits really snug. you're right, not kid-friendly. but, not my hide.
  9. no, I would not have found this if the last guy had put it back right. When I walked up the block was already twisted. When I left I put it right and tightened it right. he he.
  10. Here's one I found this weekend. Not mine but I'll post it since I'm not telling you where it is. It is NOT in my usual hunting location. Can you spot the cache? Hint: not the car. Hint 2: it's not some lame magnet cache. it is a 4/1 I meant Lame in the nicest way.....
  11. If you really are a cheap s.o.b. then go to walmart in the paint department and get an extension pole for about 3 or 4 dollars and drill a hole at the top if there isn't one( should alrady be one) and there you go. a walking stick
  12. I know there are rules about the logo but here is another work.
  13. a couple of years as a child and about 2 years as an assistant scoutmaster
  14. I love Photoshop 5.0 these took only about 5 minutes to this
  15. I don't get it. 'Micro' is clearly a size descriptor. If you were to make it a category, what would you do with puzzle caches that used a micro container? How about multis that use micros for some stages and larger containers for others? A separate category for micros makes no sense, to me. you have a point
  16. call me dumb but what does BUMP mean? erikwillke, the first time I saw "BUMP", I thought it was some rude, obscure geocaching humor . . . I've since learned that it's a 'technique' to put the thread back at the top of the forum list to keep it in view. JohnTee thank you
  17. [sigh] no international shipping as usual if you really want one I can ship it to you. of course you'll pay for the shipping. erik@willke.us
  18. You do that too..... when it happened to me I just put my head down and walked away.
  19. I carry two. I have a palm Zire 71 with cachemate and my phone is a smartphone Samsung I500 with palm 3.0 also with cachemate. I have killed the battteries in both and have not lost any data. You won't find either of these two anymore except on ebay. You can buy a Zire 72 new though.
  20. 2000 suzuki esteem crap... I mean coupe. What is funny is that here in central Florida there are alot of sand roads. the guys in their 4X4's look at me funny when I go by them on the sandy forest roads in my car. only got stuck once. it is so light that a 4-wheeler pulled me out.
